    Touch OSC has been fixed in lightkey now, I'm using it with a streamdeck. It's great.

    David, I have a suggestion for future videos similar to this one that will help your users understand your points way easier. When you critique a certain feature of a console like LightKey, what I would LOVE to see right after that critiqued feature is for you to then switch the screen over to whatever professional level console you want and then show us how that same feature is implemented better. For example, in this video, you talked about the difficulties of managing presets. It would have been awesome if after talking about the inferior preset layout, you would have then said, "Ok, so let me go ahead and show you how presets are managed in Onyx now so you can clearly see the difference between the two consoles." I think that this method of demonstrating one feature at a time and then toggling between two consoles will really give people the perspective they need to make the best decision for their needs.

    i use this a lot, with your issue with groups you can just sort fixtures by typing the name of the fixture. a short cut if you wish literally type "mh#" to highlight the fixture

      I have messed with TouchOSC controlling Lightkey and actually created a page where I can select an individual fixtures or group/types of fixtures. This comes in handy when you are trying to fine tune specific fixtures in a scene and walking around the stage fine tuning /building your cues. Also figured out how to sync TouchOSC and Lightkey to also work with motorized faders on a Presonus Faderport16 so any changes made will match on all devices.

    I would add one more reason..the 99€/$ each year they ask per license, really out of market..with an ADJ MyDMX 3.0 (149€) you got Dashlight incuded for life, much better app, or got ONYX for life with a OBSIDIAN NX DMX for 300 € (more but this is for life and with a pro App).

    I know SoundSwitch is supposed to be easy but I find it to be very non user-friendly. I like Ableton and would like a lighting program that will link and work well with it. Would you recommend I take more time learning SoundSwitch or do you have a different recommendation?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  Před 2 lety +2

      I would probably try LightKey (the focus of this video), if you found you didn't like soundswitch.

    Couldn’t you just create presets with certain fixtures, And that be like a group in addition to the current group?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  Před 5 lety

      You can, but as you add more lights, it can get overwhelming really quickly...and then that slows down programming. That's when you know it's probably time to upgrade to something more pro-grade, like Onyx.

    • @ennis437
      @ennis437 Před 5 lety +1

      Learn Stage Lighting .com i suppose that could get overwhelming. What’s ironic is we are looking at moving away from onyx because it’s just to much of a learning curve and we have ALL macs at our church and we use a lot of Ableton automation. So this may just fit the bill for us. Thanks again for all the review I really enjoy your channel and Will probably be diving in to your labs very soon!

    Hello David. Thank you for your videos you continuously post. I have been researching LightKey to replace my ETC Element 40. I would like to find something that is as easy to use/program/patch as the Element, but be more moving head friendly. I currently have primarily dimmers, but have an inventory 12 movers now. What the Element lacks is the ease of creating "crazy movement". One of the points you made in this video was the Cue List limitation. I am a huge fan of the ETC Element 40 cue list and ease of programming and adjusting the dim up/down time. Now my question...with the 5 points you made about LightKey, and with my comments made, what console and/or software would you recommend? I am 100% volunteer in operation, but I am the LD. - Thanks in advance.

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  Před 4 lety

      If you really like Cuelists, I'd take a closer look at Onyx. Truth be told, Onyx is as easy as an Element, but both are considerable more difficult to learn than LightKey. I think you'd get into Lightkey and be frustrated with it's simplicity, coming from an ETC background.

  • @BryanLankston
    @BryanLankston Před 4 lety

    I use light key and I hate that it doesn’t have cue tracking! They need to add that.

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  Před 4 lety

      I doubt they will, though. It doesn't fit the profile of "simple" that they are aiming for. Just my 2 cents - I don't work with their developers at all. The best thing you can do is email them and request it.

    • @BryanLankston
      @BryanLankston Před 4 lety

      Learn Stage Lighting .com They should make it a settings toggle so that you can enable it if you want it. I’m used to having cue tracking and it drives me crazy not having it. It also prevents me from doing any mark cues so the lights usually look terrible when transitioning between cues too.

    I'm been checking out this software but need to purchase the interface first. My reason is I need a minimal control system and I don't want to use MyDMX 3.0 anymore.

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  Před 5 lety

      It's a good option. Obviously, there's a yearly cost, but it has a lot of benefits to outweigh that cost for a lot of people.
