  • I was disappointed by another guys video that had the title about launching a 5SPD WRX, he lied, he didn’t launch it. It was clickbait. This is not clickbait. May not be the best launches but it is a launch! Let me know what other videos you guys wanna see.

    Got 240,000 miles on my 5 speed impreza. Launched it and got the whole car to slide sideways. 5 speeds are not that bad. Just drive it and have fun. 5 speed is also geared so nice for off roading when the roads get shut down for ice storms.

    2006 WRX w/ 18G @20 Psi (about 320 lb/ft at the wheels). Been like that since 2010. Stock type HD clutch and mixed sythetic 75w90 with Redline lightweight shockproof gear oil. Launch control set below 2,500 RPMs. Still plenty faster than stock to 60 mph and the clutch slips before gears can break. Been through three clutches, one shortblock, and zero transmissions😉.
    Flat Four's advice about taking up drivetrain slack is right. Roll onto the throttle instead of stabbing it. When on the go try not to floor it until RPMs are above 3,500, especially in 4th or 5th gears. Also keep stock width tires since extra grip equals extra stress on drivetrain components. *Plus moderate sized wheels and tires are faster on low to medium power cars.

    You launch it close enough to a flatbed so that therea enough momentum to push on without having to physically push it on.

    With preload and some decent footwork, you can get quite a few launches out of a 5 speed. 3 years of 400whp and hard launches at autocross events on mine and a non aggressive clutch. Too much clamping force can cause excess movement of the actual case (more so than it does normally). My 4.44 Forester XT trans is the most fun gearbox I've used personally, even while having a 2012 STI with a 6 speed. Both are great.

    So never dump the clutch, just rev it to 4-5k then slowly release the clutch until the car starts to roll slowly then you know your trans and drivetrain are safe yeah?

      Launching the five speed(non built trans) generally means you'll be replacing the trans. Been there done that. Better to just build it the right way then go beat on it.

    • @flatfour3935
      @flatfour3935  Před 3 lety +7

      @@alexgutierrez9286 not necessarily true. It’s about the foot behind the clutch not the transmission behind the engine. There’s some people who can even blow up a STI 6 speed because they don’t know how to launch. I’ve launched mine over 100 times and never had a single issue. And so has my buddy that has the Black Wagon on my channel, he’s done probably double (if not more) the launches I have and that thing is still on the stock trans.
