    The whole point of using a pst or sst tube is avoiding the time and usage of pipetting. Just pop the top and pour the serum or plasma in the pour off tube after spinning.

    • @ClinicalLabScienceVideos
      @ClinicalLabScienceVideos  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes. Plasma separator or serum separator tubes can also be used to easily obtain plasma or serum. However, there are some tests in the clinical lab that may be affected by using these types of tubes. In these cases, it would be best to use a regular red top tube.

    How many days the serum can be stored at 4-5 Celsius degree ? Coud the serum be stored at minus 20 Celsius degree for long period ?

    • @mercansensei
      @mercansensei Před rokem +3

      Serum can be stored in -20 degrees up for 3-4 weeks. For longer periods serum should be stored in -80 degrees.

    Was the centrifuge blinking at 43oo for a reason?

    • @ClinicalLabScienceVideos
      @ClinicalLabScienceVideos  Před 10 měsíci

      That's the RPM of the centrifuge we are using. But it's equivalent to 2000g for our centrifuge.

    Question, if you accidentally whole blood into the cartridge, what reading will it get?

    • @ClinicalLabScienceVideos
      @ClinicalLabScienceVideos  Před rokem

      It would depend on the manufacturer/type of test you’re using. Some cartridges allow for the use of whole blood or serum. In these cases, the test results will be the same with both samples.

    What is the reason for the formation of gel like substnces?

    • @monoham1
      @monoham1 Před rokem

      the sugars on the blood stick together like a key in a lock if they are the same blood type which forms the gel. or in this case the sugars are extracted from the blood and made into a reagent of type ABO or Rh
      if they're a different type they will stick less.
      I'm not sure if the same persons blood will stick to itself

  • @av6400
    @av6400 Před 4 dny

    This is an incorrect demonstration of preparing a serum sample from a red top tube. The “gel” formation following centrifugation is a fibrin clot. The specimen was not fully clotted prior to centrifugation. The sample needs to clot at least 1 hour or until the clot retracts (moves freely upon gentle inversion) from the side of the tube. Rimming is not correct procedure. This will remove the large fibrin clot and may free up some serum, but as the clotting cascade has started, fibrin clots will continue to form in the serum following aliquoting and will affect blood test results and may cause issues with analytical instruments. A second centrifugation will not improve the quality of the sample. Refer to the blood tube manufacturer’s instructions (available in the packing) for proper blood collection instructions and recommended clotting and centrifugation times and speeds for quality of samples.

      In the clinical lab, serum is used for testing various analytes like blood sugar, lipids, etc. It can also be used of the serologic detection of various diseases.

    I think the guy is transferring plasma not serum

    • @ClinicalLabScienceVideos
      @ClinicalLabScienceVideos  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It’s serum because the blood was allowed to fully clot before centrifugation. Also, plasma can only be obtained in tubes with anticoagulants like EDTA (purple-top tubes).
