These colleges need their tax-exempt status taken away. As well as stopping all Federal funding. I believe that colleges should control the college loan program. No Government funding. Let them decide if their money should go to a student who, cannot paid it back. Would they be so fast to loan their own money to finance degrees that offer no future of employment?

I didn't go to college in fact I didn't finish high school. My wife did go to college and had around 20k in debt. I didn't know about the debt and married her when she was 28. 3 years into our marriage I was doing 3 years of taxes in one year. I was saving them up so I could do some major renovations to our house and bam they took every penny of those 3 years of taxes. She hadn't worked in those 3 years she wanted to be a stay at home mom. I was a delivery driver for a restaurant and did computer work on the side. It took me 3 more years to pay off her debt. 6 years of me busting my arse to pay off her debt. They will all see this in the future or their significant other will see it. There is a way around it it is called an injured spouse, but I would have to file it every year for the rest of the time I am with her. Decided it best just to pay it off. So yeah it will be paid one way or another. She also had other debt and it was taken from my bank account so fast that I couldn't put money in fast enough to keep a positive balance. I had to open a new account and they wouldn't even let me close that account. My credit went to crap. from a 700 to 480 in 5 months. I spent years trying to recover from all that.

FOX; Please consider investigating and 'following the money' so to speak of the NCAA NIL (name, image, and likeness) program. Seriously, why doesn't the NCAA put a certain percentage of the revenue coming in towards paying off student loan debt asscociated with each university that participates? Why should the taxpayer flip the bill when this program generates so much money from advertising etc that is used only to pay 'athletes', coaches, and build new facilities, all of which have nothing to do with 'education'. It was bad enough to see state universities pay coaches millions of dollars each year. Now we see student athletes being paid millions, and then change universities on a whim (for more money). It's got nothing to do with education! It's sick! Yes, sports ARE the biggest revenue generators for each university! That's all the more reason for them (especially 'state-funded universities) to lead and contribute back to help resolve this issue; NOT the taxpayers! Just follow the money and ask the question, who's benefiting from the NCAA NIL Program? How much of that money actually goes back to the university for 'education'? I'm just suggesting that another pot of money should be set aside to help pay off student loan debt!

Why I should be responsible for someone's else's debt is asinine. Perhaps these students should have taken a class on economics on what happens when you take on a loan? And then a class on the government shakedown. The Colleges can charge whatever they want to charge. That's how that works. If you want to go to Wake Forest for a year at 80 Grand and you get a loan for that. That's on you scooter. You write the check they certainly will accept it. You can't pay it back? Why should I?

Where are the parents? I would be doing everything possible to counsel my kid not to get in up to their neck in debt just to go to college! There are lots of alternatives: scholarships, VA bill, ROTC, community college, working and studying part time, working and studying alternate years, waiting until you are older and have saved cash. I'd add: Where are the high schools? Don't the counselors discuss the pitfalls of student debt and the other ways to fund college with the kids?

They should be repealing the law that does not allow bankruptcy on student loans. This allowed the banks to be overly generous with who they gave loans to whether they could afford them or not. The ones benefitting were the banks with their interest and high late fees and the schools. Maybe the banks would be more careful if they had skin in the game. Some in my family got hung by the school saying they had a good placement office when my family member questioned whether they should get another loan, and then the school closed and they are unable to get that resource.

The Student Loan problem is the result of Colleges producing a bad product.
Employers aren't hiring college graduates, and college graduates can't pay back the college loans.
Colleges have Endowment, which is billions of dollars, which Congress can confiscate.
Once Congress confiscate the Endowments, then Student can use that money to defray their Student Loan according to the Student's ability to pay.
For instance, a Lawyer or Doctor making a large salary would get little help from the Endowment fund, but a student who made little would get help.
On one level, this may not seem fair, because not all College Graduates would benefit, but not all College Graduates were victims of the College system.
So only victims of an out dated College, which offered worthless degrees.l
