- The fourth and final part of my silage compilation videos filmed during the Cumbrian silage season of 2023. The five outfits include a New Holland T7.210/ Albutt buckrake, Claas Axion 800/ Albutt rake, Merlo Turbo Farmer 33.7 telehandler, John Deere 6430 and New Holland TM190 with again an Albutt buckrake. Mainly outdoor clamps this time though there are a couple of covered clamps as is quite common in Northern Cumbria. I hope everyone has enjoyed this series of silage making compilations, my next and final video of the year will feature the classic tractors I have filmed working this year.

A great selection of equipment David on your final roundup of the silage year and despite my love of older tractors I would happily jump in any of them nowadays, as I am not sure my old body can cope with being on something like a MF165 for 14 hours anymore lol. The little Merlol was holding its own and have only ever drive one in my time when I was building a Steel Building back in 2007, and got to say was pretty impressed considering I find a JCB Telehandler hard to beat. Many thanks Fraser and I’m certainly with you on that point! Yes machines are certainly a lot more comfortable now what with cab and axle suspension unlike the good old days (!!) when all you got was a couple of springs under the seat and more often than not a fertiliser bag filled with straw as a cushion! Yes the little Merlo certainly puts in an impressive performance for its size and it’s also very manoeuvrable though your right in saying that the JCB Loadalls are very hard to beat. I’ve got the classics video edited together, will probably post it between Christmas and New Year. Some mighty machines, and all spotless 👏 Surprised that neither of those with front links were using them for the rake.
Good point Mick and it makes me wonder too. I suppose it’s just the owners preference, when I was doing this kind of work 40 odd years ago there wasn’t a choice, not even between 2 and 4wd drive!
