I use this on my Level 9 bleached hair. It works great and leaves my hair really soft and shiny. I'm sure the sectioning/bowl/brush method is best, but I apply in the shower and put a shower cap on for about 10 minutes, then rinse. Great results and I apply about once a month.

So interesting! Yes, please. More tutorials like this! I stopped coloring my hair 5 years ago and was disappointed it wasn’t more gray or at least a prettier shade. 50% medium brown, 50% gray but the brown is not deep enough to be salt and pepper. Gray is evenly distributed and I wanted to embrace it but it is just ho-hum. I toyed with the idea of getting silver or white highlights, but not ready yet. So I added low lights to see if it would make the gray pop and look more like highlights. Better. But too dark. So…added some blonde highlights. Better yet. So I have brown, gray and blonde which is much prettier than it was and far better for my complexion. Now I am itching to put in a few more blonde streaks for a bit more definition and fun. Any suggestions or tutorials on color, placement, etc for us partially gray gals who don’t want to cover the gray entirely but want dimension would be super valued!

Music Lover You just answered my question! I am surely all gray under my box brown, and have decided to go all gray, and at least see what it looks like, and if I want to keep it that way! I just went to a stylist who only have me copper higihhts, and I was thinking she would do blonde to blend in more with my gray roots. Disappointed. I think I will ask for blonde bayalge past my roots or blonde highlights next time. I'm hoping to save money that I gift to a salon, by being all gray, also!!

Her hair turned out beautiful. I initially thought this was going to be about using regular box dye to tone, because I've heard that it is possible. One time I had a horrible experience getting highlights at the salon, my stylist had double booked and my hair over processed...leaving my highlights as white as snow, damaged and breaking off...it looked so horrible like mop strings, anyway the next time I retouched my roots my highlights grabbed just enough of the color during the rinse out to actually tone them in the more natural color I was looking for, and it seemed to be a permanent solution.

I feel the need to help clarify for people at home what bleach is. Hair bleach is NOT Clorox bleach.
Hair bleach is given that name (bleach) but it’s actually a de-Colorizer. That’s why the correct term is Lightner. It works by taking the powder Lightner and creating a reaction with the developer a.k.a. H2O2. Developer just has extra oxygen in it, The oxygen and the lightner create a reaction which swells the hair cuticle opening up the hair allowing for the decolorizer to go in and remove colour pigment from the hair.
Hair colour goes through a process where the hair strand has blue red and yellow pigment in it at dark level one, and only has yellow pigment in at at level 10. That’s why hair gets “warm” when lifting
Clorox bleach is a completely different chemical mostly concentrated chlorine which is very toxic and would damage the hair and skin tremendously causing burns if you were to ever put that on your hair or skin.
A woman in Florida actually put Clorox on her hair thinking it was the same as hair bleach and caused irreversible damage to her self this is why hair salons now try not to call it bleach anymore because they’re not even the same chemical.

Great video, very informative on using toner on blonde bleached hair. I have been using L’Oreal “hi-lift” lighted ash blonde for years. I’m 73 and have white, light grey, dark grey mixed with brown and dark brown at my neck. In the past year I began using a cup and brush to apply to roots. I section and alternate if I start at the crown and work towards the hairline last time, I will do all the part lines up top & hair line then give some application to crown and lower crown so that doesn’t get too dingy.
To even out and brighten my all-over color after the first 20-25 min, I mix in conditioner and put the mixed product on my entire head for 5 min. Obviously I’m as careful as I can be and I have used Olaplex, then K18, and recently Redken acid bonding, all great products but the jury is still out on which one of these treatments works best for my hair.
I would love to hear your thoughts on my hair processing. My natural hair is awful and mousy. My lightened hair is beautiful for the first few weeks then the dreaded fading and oxidizing happens and it looks terrible, in my opinion. My hair grows very fast so after those few weeks my roots are beginning to show. I’m on a tight budget so getting this done in a salon is financially prohibitive. Thank you for your insight and experience!

I love this video but I’d love to see a video on white hair instead of grey. I was a natural blonde then I “frosted ” it a few times a year to stay blonde. I’m 70 & sick of coloring my hair. My hair is completely white at the hairline & is sprinkled throughout causing my brown hair to look ash. In the sunlight it looks really good but inside it looks so much darker. I thought I had more white hair until I started letting it grow out. If I could have more white highlights in the front I could handle the grow out. Could you do a video about how to grow out the white & do something with the old golden highlights? Thank you!

My question is what do you do when hair absorbs the color/toner fast, i.e. using an ash toner on a golden blond turns gray. After years of highlights, my hair is very porous and when I tone it, I have a hard time because it goes ashy and I don't like it. Also, why don't hairdressers tell you that toners only last about a month?

I have to correct you- So you said that even with the intense purple color in the toner will not turn it purple.
False: So for those that have bleached, highlighted hair , ONLY LEAVE IT ON FOR 4 minutes Max.
I just made that mistake and left it on without realizing how long it was left in. I left it for 15 minutes and when i went to wash it out… it was light purple…. I did not have clarifying shampoo on hand so after researching at 3am.
If this happens- mix together a paste of baking soda and blue dawn (original) dish soap. It miraculously works. Lather it continuously. Make sure when making the paste that its not runny. Lather for 20 min - 30. Then rinse. The baking soda will make the hair feel dry but use a good conditioner with coconut oil and let that sit. Wash out and re tone again but i only then left it in for 3 minutes. It did the job!

    Omg the puppy❤I want one🎉
I am planning to use Redken Shades EQ.
The haidresser colored my hair and I didn't like the tone so I washed it. Now my upper half is darker yellow and lower half is brighter yellow. I am thinking to first tone the upper half and then after few minutes do the lower part, because it is more porous. Is it going to work?

Ok so my hair naturally is a level 7-8 light blonde but I like it a little lighter so I’ve always had it highlighted about once a year is all I have to do it . Because my natural hair is light blonde enough that it blends in really well … so this time I did it i just got it to blonde to much on top .. listen my dad was a barber stylist for 45 years he passed away a month ago so I have nobody to ask these questions to anymore.. 😢

He is an absolute sweetie. If your hair is brassy, give this a shot. If your hair is level 9 or 10, it will work. If you are closer to the orange tone (level 8), then this may not be powerful enough for you.
