Completely humbled by all the love I'm getting over this track off of my "Progress 2" album! Thank you guys very much!
This piece drove away my boredom for an hour, thanks.
Been listening for years man! My friend that passed away learned how to play this on the guitar, it always reminds me of him. Thanks for the art man. ❤
2022 and im still here ! i remember hearing this track going to sleep back in 2016 lofe changing humbles me a lot reminds me o was really different bacc then
Still a tune
It's still so wonderful
Thanks for all the love guys! A huge thanks to MrSuicideSheep for sharing the song!
I was accepted into a Cambodia family via marriage and once I was told about the horrors that the Khmer Rouge committed to the Cambodian people I felt it was my job to shed the light on it being that the US media NEVER talks about it. That is why I made the Progress and Progress 2 albums.
So glad to be apart of this! Glad everyone is enjoying the song
Found this through the 'Books of War' mashup with RZA and MF DOOM. Damn this is fire as hell. Love the slow and slightly syncopated riff with the strong drum track.
And the cool samples behind it
Thank you for this comment I knew I heard that instrumental somewhere before
I have this on repeat
Travellight i do that as well, pretty sticky melody and so chill and comfortable in some way lol
pajero
Khmer remixed
3 years later?
Same
I remember the first time hearing this and being filled with a bittersweet sadness that I couldn't understand. Then I looked up the date/title, this piece of music is exsquisite
🤌🤌🤌

np ^^
+Rambo Dambo The fact that this is culturally correct is so appealing.
Damn well heard man, thanks for spreading the truth!
My god, her voice is beautiful. Knowing her tragic fate under the Cambodian genocide just makes the song all the more haunting.
I can't believe Rob Viktum tried to hide this gem from the world, refusing to give credit to the original singer just for personal gain. Here's what he said on his Facebook:
"People don't understand how rare the record is that I used on 4/17/75... people also dont seem to understand that I will NEVER tell anyone what the sample is. It is part of the mystique of that song. Sorry folks.. you can stop asking."
Rob Viktum even went so far as to delete comments that mentioned the song title and Ros Sereysothea's name. It's a disgrace to her memory.
Thank you for spreading the truth!
Also, I'd like to mention that although Rob Viktum sampled his song specifically from Ros Sereysothea, Ros Sereysothea herself was performing a cover version of a Taiwanese song by Lin Xiu Yun. You can find the Taiwanese version on CZcams by typing:
*Koun Komsoth (Chinese) (Khmer) Lin Xiu Yun and Ros Sereysothea*
The video is uploaded by *Darrenvkham*
THANK YOU!! That piece of shit finally gets what he deserves
This is Cambodian traditional song 😍
I honestly think of this as my main musical theme when I go for a walk at evenings, when the Autumn leaves fall and the Sunset is about to happen
This is what got me into making beats, finally found it after years.
that mesmerizing guitar riff, a cool beat and a perfect vocal. one of the best things I heard in a while
Seven years later I'm still listening to this song, got me through high school and uni what a gem of a song
someday i will stumble across the original song and it shall be a glorious day
Jacob Coyle Kaun Komsott by Ros Sereysothea (កូនកំសត់)

Thank you was looking for it I decided to peel apart Books Of War and came across the article that had her name on it, but no song title appreciate it. It's important to dissect and go all the way to the beginning. Peace to all. Stay safe during these harsh times.
AMAZING SONG!
Peenoiseplays brought me here to using music background
TURUTTUT
I am Cambodian and I recognize that sound anywhere. The song title is awesome too because that is the date when the Khmer rogue invaded Phmon Pen. Really well done song.
Sok did u know the title of the original song when u’ve first heard this one?
@@alk.d.1973 Ros Sereysothea - Kon Komsot
OMG THIS IS JUST SO FREAKING AWESOME ... I'm close to crying from that vibe, no joke :o
yes this song apparently was recorded in a very sad period of of Vietnam it probably has that sentiment embedded to it.you have all the reasons to cry I felt that sentiment too too but I didn't cry though
@@hopalongcassidy4260 im sorry but cambodia aint vietnam
Hey Rob I remember Downloading 'Progress' a while ago and I wanted to thank you for making this tribute album. My parents were affected by the Khmer Rouge too and when I showed them some of the beats you made the samples made them reminisce about how it was before. Thanks again man.

Love you all, enjoy life, it doesn't last forever
Gnarux it was actually a horrifying day, the capital of Cambodia fell to the communist regime overthrowing the whole country leading to a genocide of over 1.2million deaths.
@@Wsupjoe this is funny.
Nice.
Damn the melody is hella familiar. My folks used to play khmer music on roardtrips to long beach. might not be the same but i think i know a song thats similar

This, I can't explain. This channel is beyond incredible, I just don't know where I'd be if I hadn't found this channel that one day. Its just incredible
Holy Shit! This sounds great if you put the speed at 1.5!
Wikipedia, April 17th, 1975:
End of Cambodian Civil War: Following several weeks of successful fighting, the government of Cambodia surrendered at 7:00 in the morning to the Khmer Rouge guerillas when they captured Phnom Penh.[40] That evening, sound trucks operated by the new regime began warning Pnompenh residents of an imminent bombing attack and directing them to flee the city into the countryside.[41]
As told by my Grandma, She and her family were brainwashed by the khmer rouge into thinking they were keeping them safe from the vietnamese, little did she know Pol Pot was on their side :(
@@flushu603 wach the movie first they killed my mother directed by anjelina jolie
thanks so much for sharing this track MrSheep, really appreciate your support :) lovely to read all of these kind words too, thanks to all - I can't wait to share this with Rob!
Man that old fashion khmer music brings me back to my childhood how my father alwas plays his stupid khmer music, but that vibe with the khmer style alwas gives me a goosebump reminding how bad my family went through the khmer rouge. Nearly brings me to tears.
sick song i study to this alot
I'm in a spectacular mood, wanted to say I love all of you :D
U on md
i feel like i heard this song a hundred times before, chilling. and still i want to hear it a hundred times more
Thanks Rob.. Love your music! This song is amazing, can't wait for more!
i fucking love this song. makes me think i am in some kind of cloud trying to dance xD amazing
What's even more scary about the Khmer Rouge, is that they photographed every single person they captured and subsequently executed. There's an entire gallery dedicated to the sorrowful people, and it's harrowing even just watching the photographs of the gallery, much less being there, with all those helpless people staring at you. They all knew what was coming, and they all feared it
Thanks for this song Rob, stay awesome brother.
Turning genocide into a bureaucratic, systematic process has always been one of humanity's scariest traits to me.
very glad you are feeling it!
One of the best tracks I`ve heard on Sheepy in months. Keep it up man
triiiiiiip-hop

Thanks! Brightened my day!
A huge thanks for making it =D
instrumental - doom & rza-books of war
+Nekazvam Paknz This isnt exactly the same beat as on books of war. They're similar though. Seems like one of those dudes was trying to bite the other when making it.
i'm not from those guys :D But this one is much better (yours) ;)
+HowToMakeBeats It's called sampling mate
Hoichael Stoderzinken Mate, look at my name. I know what sampling is. I'm saying that they sound like one of the producers were influenced by the other's version because very similar.

Love this channel. Awesome chilled out music, like this (need more like this btw) and an AWESOME community. People just hanging out and chatting bout the day. Someone had a shit day and the community is like "Bro, we got you. Sit down, chill out, and listen to the music."
I am very glad to have found his song. One of my favorite videos uses a snippet from this track, and I have been wondering what it was for the longest time.
I'm searching for this nostalgic beauty
I'm hurting to find, and I know can be out and within me
But not within the city with the hideous legal crimes
With citizens oblivious to the illusion of time
And all the concepts not ready for their mind
Hideous is covered as peacefulness and we're used to it
because we were born in this day and age that's tore down
our frames and labeled us as legal slaves, we can't open our eyes
to see the days wasted for wages that get wasted, physical obsession
is our only identities possession, we can't find our higher self
this situation is dire but we do nothing but tryna get hired
For some big company go rich go home, bitch
This is the shit I've hated ever since a kid
Searchin fulfillment and thinkin money is the way to pursue it
We were lied to, and this is the truth im tryna tell to die for you!
There's somewhere better we can be
Our journey is long but thats what it takes to be free
I noticed you commented this on another video. But thats totally fine man, because...shit your slam poems fire!
play with 1x25 speed and thank me later :)
