My go to movies: For showing off modern picture quality: Pacific Rim, Transformers The Last Knight, John Wick Chapter 2 or Godzilla vs Kong. For showing off remastered work: Any of the 3 Lord of the Rings movies, Top Gun, A Few Good Men or Apollo 11. For showing off your sound system in a movie: Jurassic World, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down or Godzilla: King of Monsters
I used Jurassic Park (T Rex introduction) back in my laserdisc days for sound--and sometimes still do. Saving Private Ryan for sound--has so much directional things going on. For the total immersive experience I show the light cycle scene from Tron Legacy in 3D.
My only tip is NEVER, EVER EVER place a speaker, especially the center speaker, in a cavity like what's built into an entertainment center. It totally colors the sound and destroys its clarity. My sound system consists of 4 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains and 2 for the side channels), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 6 SVS Prime Elevation speakers (4 ceiling mounted for Dolby Atmos and 2 mounted on the back wall for the rear channels) and 2 SVS SB-3000 Subwoofers. The system is powered by a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A 11 channel AVR connected to a Panamax M5400-PM Power Conditioner.
Do you have tips on where to start when getting ready to set up a home theater? As far as what components to get and what brands are worth it? Also, what brands give you Dolby Atmos? Thanks!!
Saw Dune 2X in the opening week. Once in my neighborhood theater (2.39:1). Had such a moving experience watching it that I sought out an IMAX presentation in VA. An 80' tall screen is unreal. Totally worth the extra $.
