HOGAN AND I TAKE TURNS CUTTING TREES DOWN IN BETWEEN TWO HOUSES , ALL WHILE DISCUSSING WEDGING AND HOLDING WOOD. www.weaverarborist.com/?ref=b... buckinbillyray.bandcamp.com/r...
5 Step Felling Plan that I've lived by every since I was a greenhorn on the ground! 1. Heights and Hazards 2. Lean(Good side/Bad side) 3. Escape route(45° in the opposite direction of the falling tree!) 4. Notch(80% width of the tree. Conventional/Humboldt/Open face) 5. Back Cut(Leaving 7-10% thickness of the tree left for Hingewood/Holdingwood) This is the 5 Step felling plan that I learnt on day one at a Line Clearance Tree company! I went from the bottom to the top! No pun intended! Got my white hat there and became an A Foreman as a Line Clearance Arborist! They had some of the absolute safest procedures out there. I'm very blessed to have been able to attend all of their training courses. It's stuck with me every since! From Felling trees to Rigging and Roping trees! We cut trees in very close proximity to powerlines. So it was a very dangerous job! Which is why safety was huge there! Pulling overhang and limb walking was a whole different animal when you were above thousands of volts of electricity!
I own a chainsaw no where near as professional as these on the video, I find cutting firewood very therapeutic and special, I’m recovering from a break down from stress at work and find doing manual labour really gives me a kick stay well everyone peace out.
Going to the forest and swinging an axe actually raises your testosterone which will indeed make you feel like a better man> Humans have forgotten our connection with nature.
Knowledge is power and you choose to share it with other people for no reason other than to help, that’s one of the most honorable things a human can do. Love to you and the family buckin❤️
Sup Buckin’! Only been watching your content for about 2 months but I can’t get enough of the kindness and positivity! It brings me out of any funk I might be in that particular day- keep it up man, we really appreciate it!
Climbed my first tree today. A 35ft pine. Limbed it and toped it. Then fell it. Very fun day. Thanks for your videos Buckin definitely helped me work twards this day. Be Kind and have fun.
Congrats Ben! Hope you always have a little bit of caution in mind when cutting and climbing. Sounds like you’re a go getter! Doing all 3 of those things takes skill and determination and you have it.
First of all: Why would ANYONE give a thumbs down on this video? That just baffles the heck out of me. I just don't get it. Now, Buckin' I thank you for the information. You know, lot's of people would never share this information with others. I know this from personal experience. Not with tree cutting, but other venues. They would not tell you anything. "Let em figure it out for themselves" they would say. I hate that. Especially when it comes to doing things could potentially kill you!! I have always enjoyed helping people and sharing information with them in order to help them out with something, and watching them get better at doing it, and even sometimes better that I can. Anything. I take my hat off to you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. Thanks Billy. Jim
This comment is on point. They dislike because they want to save a tree. Burning gas in the saw is bad for the environment. These men are capitalist bastards charging money and killing trees and environment. Those same people think electricity is magic and their hot tub is manufactured useing fairy dust and there Tesla makes the world cleaner and the production and mining of the ore was on another planet that can sustain itself by itself.
Hey Buckin Billy Ray, I have a friend thats been cutting trees for 10 years that has caught my interest in them. Ive always loved climbing and the thought of making it a job. I found your channel and have been watching you cut trees for months now. Ive come to the conclusion that this is what I want to do. You have great information and a great mindset, and you arent opposed to sharing; Thank you for letting us in on all you do. It inspired me to get into the trade and appreciate all that goes into it. Time to be a groundsman for a while. Thanks again.
I'm just learning "real" tree work (from Billy Ray). Only have a couple cheap Poulan saws, a couple vintage axes, and just bought my 1st set of wedges. I'm just happy to be here with Buckin' Billy Ray!
Just started watching your videos....by far my new favorite channel. Your positive and we'll spoken. I am a homesteader from Lebanon Maine and I do alot of cutting. I just got a wood boss portable mill this spring. I have alot of big oak and pine to take. Some of them lean pretty good. I've been watching alot of videos on stepping can't wait for the rain to stop so I can give her a go.
Hi friends . Back again this is one of my favourite videos on youtube. Its so great to see the comraderie between father and son. Plus my fave saws in action. Be kind all. Good night from Gisborne New Zealand. Thanks Buckin.
Billy Ray - I have an axe (never used) - i don't have a chainsaw, but I love watching you - you fascinate me you are great. I love watching and listening to you. love you too man ! I feel like I could drop a tree - having watched so many of your videos. Your excitement in contagious. Keep doing what you do - you are the most entertaining and informative channel on my TV.. I must say you make it look so easy - but I know the knowledge you possess has been learned through years of practice and experience's. Initially I just wanted to see how to cut a tree down - but have learnt so much from you since. You are an education.
Billy mate, you really sort me out sometimes, remind me to stay on track in order to contribute to a better world - cheers and I wish you well as always.
You helped me out. I cut small dead red pine down by my house about 3 years ago. Too small to wedge until I got the saw far in on the back cut so I ended up pinching the saw. Couldn't get the wedges in at that point and had to hook up a pulley system and pull it with my truck. It came down but I should have driven the wedge in at an angle like here. Thank you billy Ray!
Buckin Billy! You have made a connection with me. Yes, I cut down some for firewood, some to use for the frames of a sailboat, some because I needed room for my house and garage. Now there are some dead ones that have to come out before I build. It used to be a triumph to me, now it is sad that it had to come down. I definitely use the wood, I very much appreciate the gift God has given me. Your kitchen counter raw edge is unparalleled. That piece of wood is proof of God. Also, that is a very good point about small notches leaving more room for the wedge.
Good Morning, I was asked "George, what is your favorite coffee?" My answer is always, "this" coffee. I have learned to enjoy what is within my reach. This eliminates a whole bunch of discontent. Smiling, George.
I love to hear the crack of those saws sounds like music to my ears. It amazes me how that wedge can make that tree move that much at the top of the tree
I'm a new commenter but am absolutely loving the combination of tree work and messages of kindness that permeate your videos and your channel. When I tell people "I'm addicted to this guy on CZcams from Canada who's a logger/tree man, loves antique chainsaws and has messages of kindness" they look at me funny (I'm not in any way connected to the industry and rarely even get to run my 455 Rancher. Billy Ray, I get as much education from your messages and heartfelt talks as I do from watching you cut timber and listen to your pointers and directions of what to do and how to do it. Thanks my brother, and may God continue to bless you and give you deep breaths and sharp chains.
Working for a tree service in Southern Indiana. Been watching for a while I've learned some things but most of all I love your sense of life. And love watching the big drops. Best part of my day is sending a tree creaking over
I learned a lot from this one thanks Buckin. Love seeing you and your boy work together my boy is 10 and he just bought his own chain saw with his own money proud daddy that day I won’t let him run unless I’m around with him he is very careful and I’ve got all the PPE for him! He started out when he was 2 years old no joke with a machete and and there’s still stumps around with his hinge wood on them from years ago little arm and leg size trees! I love working with him he grades each one of my stumps after I cut a tree down I love it I give you tons of credit he knows you just as well as I do thanks again Buckin!
@@jbbolts No the new growth is the wood on the outer part of the trunk. The thin layer just below the bark is what produces new wood (and new bark) so it grows wood outwards while growing new bark, and pushing the old bark outwards like skin. As new wood grows, the inner layers die and harden into heartwood
It's amazing watching a pro in their element, and it's really something special when they take the time to impart the wisdom they've gained over decades of work. Thanks BBR 😎👍
So gratefull to you for taking the time to explain and show when and how to use wedges without putting me to sleep basically reading out of a book. You are raising up a hell of tree man.
That’s exactly it - I just like being here too. It’s been so much fun learning about this world of tree cutting while on lockdown. I especially appreciate the life advice, and encouragement to remember that love always wins.
Billy Ray thanks for all great video's. The 1st video of your I saw was with a 125 super pro, which caught my attention. My Dad was a NW logger, ran Mac as long as I can remember. Your video's with those Mac bring back a lot memories for me. Dad still cuts mostly firewood now at 86 years old, you know how it is once it get in you blood its there forever. He still loves to fall and the feel of a saw in his hands. I built dad a log splitter when he retired, its on it 2nd complete rebuild and it's 4th motor....old logger never retire.
Those are nice stumps, first class...love reading the forest from inside the tree. Thank you for teaching us to read a cut too makes our world better and we'll spread that kindness...I like visiting with you friends
This is one of your best videos in my opinion, your intro really made me feel alive and inspired, your comment on the first cut and the lean angle hit home too. Stay safe thank you for all you do !!
Its great seeing you do things with your son! I work with my Dad as an electrician and love every minute of it. He is also always the first one to grab a saw and help a neighbor or family out when weather hits here in Indiana. A great role model and great Dad and thats what I see in you too. Hope your having a wonderful day and spreading the love.
Thank you for your passion, thank you for your attention to detail and explaining all of the small things to us that would otherwise be missed in your process. I really enjoy your videos and I continue to be drawn to your teaching that comes with so much passion.
I truly appreciate your passion for tree work. Thank you buckin for helping me out. Cutting some pines near my home. Got the butterfly's in the belly of you know what I mean!!!!!!
I'm pretty much done tree trimming. I'm 64 and I started in 1977 I like your show I like your words thank you for your channel I wish you were around when I started
OK, this guy is a true master at what he's doing. I would never have either the confidence or the skill to fell a tree in this kind of a scenario. He had them fall precisely where he wanted. Hats off.
I just love the father son relationship thats going on here.... That son thinks the world of dad How good is that tottal respect from both at a guess !!!!!
I do pick up not just a little bit from watching but a lot - thanks. the more i watch the more i learn. Up till about 6 years ago i had never hold a powersaw in my hands and since i started looking at all your videos some i don´t know 2-3 years ago i have learned a lot - but praktisch make master so i try to remember what i have seen you do and it works so thank you. By the way done two axes as well - rehafted one and made one from an old head i found based also on seeing you do it.
I love the wisdom you bring to the channel Buckin. And like you said not everyone is a tree freak like most of us, but the humor and personal motivation you instill in this channel is what keeps me coming back. Thanks for being a great role model Buckin, I mean it! 😎💪
I watch a lot of your videos and I feel like you're a prime example of how life works. Be kind and love is everything in the world and I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge. Experience is the only way to gain true knowledge and you sharing yours makes it safer for people like me. I'll never go into the woods to cut a tree without my axe and some wedges. Thanks
If I was a young man ( I'm 72 ) I would do the same thing as you have spent your life doing . you have a good healthy life being free . A free life is a good life .
I think he'd like us to leave understanding the importance of assessing the lean and it's relationship to the first cut... Thanks for the vids / knowledge Buckin
You are a fantastic human being and I have learned so much from my time watching your channel. I have used saws in the past but now that I own some of my own land I have started learning more about how to fell properly. I'm still using a maul to split my firewood, but hope to upgrade to a proper axe at some point so that I practice a proper flick. Thank you for everything you do and keep up the amazing work!
Thank you Buckin. Love all your tips on workin wedges I truly do appreciate it all. I will be workin the angles on the wedges more and more. I am rarely lucky enough to be able to fall my firewood trees where they lean. ASSESSMENT is essential. Love ya man and thank you. Thank you all so much for this awesome adventure. Thank you Buckin. Nice work Ganges.🌲❤🌲✊

Great videos buckin and Hogan , the young fella is a man now 👍
Really learned a great deal from this one. Thanks brother and stay safe
OK, this guy is a true master at what he's doing. I would never have either the confidence or the skill to fell a tree in this kind of a scenario. He had them fall precisely where he wanted. Hats off.
I love the little “hehe” before he says friends. You can tell his only goal is brightening your day. Keep killin’ it Buckin’!!
Thanks for the great video, the tips are very helpful.
Great video BBR, love this channel, spreading love and kindness around the world!. Take care and be safe. Love you all. ♥️Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧♥️🌲🌲🌲
HEY GRAHAM
I watch a lot of your videos and I feel like you're a prime example of how life works. Be kind and love is everything in the world and I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge. Experience is the only way to gain true knowledge and you sharing yours makes it safer for people like me. I'll never go into the woods to cut a tree without my axe and some wedges. Thanks
I love this channel because it’s nothing but positivity....
Great work with the 66’s. Great tutorial on wedgemenship ! Hello to Kelci and Ben , have a great day. Peace out ✌️
If I was a young man ( I'm 72 ) I would do the same thing as you have spent your life doing . you have a good healthy life being free . A free life is a good life .
Nice optical illusion around 5:55 as the bark of the two trees blends together.
Hello friend. You always amaze me. Give hope and show love. Your a great man and an awesome father. Hogan is Lucky. Kindness wins
HEY RICKI
I think he'd like us to leave understanding the importance of assessing the lean and it's relationship to the first cut... Thanks for the vids / knowledge Buckin
Billy your a great teacher. I enjoy watching you I have learned a lot thank you so much God bless.
Great video as always. Appreciate the encouragement you give to us every day.
