The new Shokz Opencomm2 is the updated model of the highly popular Aftershokz Opencomm UC it has the same great features that customers love but it's even better! The Opencomm2 uses their 7th generation bone conduction technology, which they call Premium Pitch 2.0, it bypasses the ear canal entirely, and instead sends sound waves through the jaw bone area to the cochlea, or inner ear, bypassing the eardrum entirely. Once the inner ear receives these sound waves, they’re relayed to the brain. With the Bone Conduction headset technology it allows you to use the bluetooth wireless headset in a variety ways:
    1) Hard of hearing employees
    2) Need to hear surrounding noises like open office, or traffic noises
    3) Since it's IP55 rated its water/dust resistant so it can be used on rugged job sites.

I have the first version and I love it. I can't wait to buy the second version. I went through several different headsets because I get headaches easily from the pressure of the headphones covering my ears. I work in a call center from home and I need to wear a Headset for long periods of time. After trying out several headsets and returning them I finally discovered this version from a coworker who had one. I bought it right away and I love it. I do have the Jabra evolve 75 which I love as a back up headset. That was my first wireless headset before buying the other models I have purchased that didn't work for me until I found this version.
I will be buying the second version of this headset as soon as it becomes available on your website.
For anybody who is reading this I use mine for zoom on my computer. I don't need to do anything fancy it just works.
I have never tried it on teams but I'm thinking it would still work the same.
I just basically set my computer sound settings to the speakers and microphone of this headset.
The other thing is I am totally blind so being able to hear my surroundings around me and not have people yelling to get my attention is great. I definitely love this headset.

I'm really looking forward to getting this headset. I've used the Motorola bone conduction headsets since the late 90s and early 2000s until I retired last month. The only drawback is that in refinery-type unit environments, you have to use earplugs, but you will still be able to hear the transmission of the headset.

Just so everybody knows I just got this headset yesterday and it's awesome. I have the first version. Also one thing that is great is that when you press the mute button on the microphone you will not hear that annoying beep noise anymore. I did like it at times to remind me that I was on mute but I did find it annoying. It is not present in this version. I know people had this question so I thought I would make a comment out here. Also I am proud to say I purchased it through Headset advisor!

Are you using BT directly, or connecting via the dongle? It would be truly excellent news if they got rid of the beep altogether!
The annoying beep in gen1 is making me return that one - the dongle for gen1 is really just a workaround. It "grabs" the Windows audio even when the headset is turned off. :-(

    • @meridith9340

I use the dongle and it doesn't make the beep noise at all. I haven't tried it with straight Bluetooth through my phone because I use this for work but I don't think it would make the beep noise regardless if it's not present when using the dongle. I hope this helps. I use 59 soft phone service and I use the settings on 59 to mute my microphone or put the collar on hold. I do the same thing with zoom but usually I use zoom on my phone instead of the computer.

I used the Gen1 for awhile and absolutely loved it. HOWEVER, when paired and connected to multiple devices (i.e. my computer and my mobile phone) it would not switch between devices and would eventually stop connecting with one or the other randomly. The only way to fix it (temporarily) was to hard reset the Opencomm. If they have fixed this issue with the Gen2 I would absolutely buy one.

I currently use the first version (non USB) Opencomm, next to a Jabra Evolve2 75, Jabra Speak 710 × 2 and an Audeze Filter).
I paired it with a Jabra 380 BT USB dongle to the PC & with my phone.
It's a headset you can wear all day without any fatigue. In my experience, putting the mic upright has a mute-like effect due to noise-canceling (which is excellent, and why I bought it after a demo by EBPMAN ). It's an exceptional headset for voice. Listening to music is a bit of a stretch. It takes some getting used to (certainly when compared to audiophile level IEMs).
The only drawback is that muting the mic in Teams gives a hard annoying repetitive tone which I can't bear. But I use KRISP for noise-canceling on the PC, and I found out that muting the mic in KRISP does not yield the same annoying tone in the Opencomm.
There's not a doubt in my mind about getting the Opencomm2. (but it's not commercially available yet…)

I second that. I'm hoping Shokz does not go down the Jabra path of 'updating' the mic setting to be so aggressive that it sounds unnatural. From your review of Opencomm2 it seems they've stuck with a natural mic calibration, ie allowing some environmental sounds and not over-digitising noise reduction. I'm hoping the 'over the air updates' will not change that. My suggestion to Shokz: allow us to choose the aggressiveness of noise cancellation to cater for different scenarios and different user tastes. I think that would truly differentiate an already excellent product.

I would like to see how any bone conduction headset works with transduction collar throat Mics that I seen many motorbike riders wear. I would thinK they would interfere with each other conducting through the jaw / skull. If not that would be great as so Bikers can be heard with out so much noise from the throat mic, but not have their ears blocked so they can still hear traffic etc also.
So I guess a challenge would be if that is something you would consider testing ?

I have the opencomm v1 and really enjoy them. They are great except in a super noisy environment like an 18 wheeler.
The vibration when you turn the volume up is a bit like a tickle. What I've found is if you are doing something like cutting the grass they aren't loud enough BUT if you put in a pair of ear plugs to mute the lawnmower they are plenty loud and it increases the perceived bass response.
I'm not sure there would be enough improvement for me to justify upgrading to v2 but if it's your first pair I'd go with v2.
Just a side not, if you are in an extremely noisy location such as an 18 wheeler a blueparrott is a superior option. Your voice to the other person is many times better.

Probably borders on a rhetorical question, but I assume these suffer from the same issues as all/most bluetooth headsets? The old Aeropex were life-changing for both sports as well as general comfort, so I eventually tried both them as well as the OpenComm1 (even with their house-made dongle), but they appeared to be unsuitable for anything but just phonecalls or just listening to music as doing either of those at the same time as something else (Discord, games, music, videos) would just kill any semblance of sound quality.
In addition, they were subject to a very noticable delay, which made them entirely unsuitable for gaming (sound would arrive after an action had been performed already). I really just want this kind of headset without the Bluetooth weaknesses, that would be a dream come true.

I updated to the Opencomm 2 UC from the previous version and the sound just doesn't seem the same.
It's hard to explain but the sound just seems a bit worse, like too much treble or something no matter how much I adjust the audio. The 1st version sounds more natural.
Also, for some reason, the bluetooth connection for the phone and the connection to the dongle takes like two seconds to initialize. What this means is that, if you crank up a CZcams video from headphone silence, you hear a little static then the audio starts so you miss the 1st two seconds of audio in the video. It happens every single time. The exact same thing happens with the phone. The original OpenComm UC didn't have this problem.
Also, I prefer the microphone on the left side as opposed to the right. I guess they changed that because of the mute button on the mic, which I would have more than likely barely use. That was not that big of an issue if the other items wouldn't have been a problem.
I will go back to the previous version and gift the latest version to a family member for free.

These kinds of headsets are really good for use in VR. I've yet to find the perfect headset, which to me seems pretty obvious:
A COMBONATION of bone conduction and air conduction
A clear, -software free- noise cancelling mic with rode-like voice reproduction and voice EQ options
The option to use a wired connection via TRRS cable and/or USB-C internal sound card and/or Bluetooth 5.3, WITH LOW LATENCY modes, like you find on a Woojr kit.

I’ve used the gen 1 for about a month: 1) If you wear glasses or sunglasses, they’re uncomfortable. 2) Just because the person can hear you doesn’t mean you can hear them. 3) Not having USB-C is still a horrible decision. If they included a flap, or some other means of covering the port to still keep the IP rating would be perfect. I lost my original cable and was unable to use them for a little while. So if you have animals, kids or anyway of the cable getting damaged, you’re out of luck.
The shocks keep both ears open and makes it very difficult to listen in a loud environment. One of the suggested ways to fix this is to wear earplugs or crank the volume as high as possible.
The sound test to the laptop is better, but what about an actual call - what does the other person hear?
