Is This REALLY Traditional Polish Food Or BLACK Food? (Was it Worth it?)

- My travels in Europe take me to a town in Poland called Ustroń which is a health resort town in Cieszyn Silesia, southern Poland with many restaurants, attractions, markets and shops for tourists and locals. Next to this town is the river Wisła (Vistula) which is the longest river in Poland. In this video I visit various shops and markets in this town and view the surrounding area then I go get traditional polish food and a beer.
Any recommendations for restaurants or traditional food just leave a comment!.

Hi Andre, this wasn't a museum it was an antique market where you can buy stuff.
The dish you ate is a potato cake with sour cream you can also eat the cake with goulash, if you are in ustroń i can recomend you to order potato cake (placek ziemniaczany) with pork chop (kotlet schabowy) and fried sauerkraut
(Kapusta zasmarzana)
I'm glad you are enjoying Poland.
You are such a cheerful and open-hearted person.
I wish you a good day and happy journey!

Weź wrzuć pierogi do głębokiego tłuszczu i będziesz miał empanadas. Nie wprowadzaj kogoś w błąd jeśli nie znasz się na tradycjach danego regionu.

I have some language tips for you, in Polish:
w is like "v",
ł is like "w"
ó is like "u" not "o"
But your polish is so good and we apreciate it
Yeah, some random place serving potato pancakes (placki ziemniaczane) is almost never going to be good, you can even get digestive issues from old oil and such. They're supposed to be crunchy on the rims and juicy closer to the center, not overall burned like this. These look like ready-to-fry crap quality processed type bought from a supermarket and not hand-made from actually grinding fresh potatoes. Not sure about Ustroń, but if you go to a larger city, you will find these in many restaurants and in mostly 2 varieties - with sour cream, which are designed to be a sweet dish or with goulash, possibly with some melted cheese and mushrooms on top, very garlicky and well seasoned. These are considered "traditional" but are actually called "Hungarian potato pancakes" (placki po węgiersku). Or you could just have them solo, if you actually just like the way fried potatoes taste. You should try it out again, just in some more decent establishment, that focuses more on food than beer.
The potato pancakes are very good but the ones they served you were not well done, don't be put off trying elsewhere. As for Oscypek, it is made of sheep's milk.
I hope you will get some good food in Poland. Potato pancakes are usually very nice but probably homemade are better.

It's amazing how often you get to describe Polish people as outgoing and friendly. Things have definitely changed for the better in Poland. I've noticed that too, when returning there after 10 years abroad.

Sadly Ustroń is filled with sub-par restaurants. The restaurant I can recommend to visit is Smażalnia Ryb "Rodzinna" in Wisła, it's near the market and you can get some truly fantastic fish from there. It's been family ran for decades, my grandparents used to go there in the 70's.
Hi Andre, you are amazing :) Thank you for your movies. I am learning English and you are helping me a lot.
I recommend eating potato cake with goulash. It's better than yoghurt. Also, your potato was cake slightly burnt. Maybe you were unlucky, because in general potato cakes are delicious.
Speak to them in slow Czech.
Thank you for coming to Poland. Na zdrowie 😎
Traditional potato pancakes in Cieszyn Silesia ar not crispy fried on fat like almost everywhere in Poland but baked on a hot stove plate. They are served with sour cream with sugar or bacon pieces or meat or mushroom creamy stew. But they certainly should not be burnt.
Ohhh crap, 10:30 in the first they didn’t have Żywiec, but they had a regional beer.
In other restaurant they didnt have regional beer, but Żywiec was on spot hahah thats funny. Great Video Andre!
Ask them in slow Czech if they understand Czech. In this region a lot of Poles because of its dialect understand Czech quite well.

@Hi Andre, About potato pancakes. The cook blew it. Firstly the are to big and also to thin. You should really ask for a replacement! They are really burned and they should give you a new portion. It's common in such situations, don't resist filing a complaint. Oh and FYI the sour cream in Poland means just a dense cream it is usually added to soups in Poland and CEE, not some prepared a sauce. The dish also looked poor without a deal or some spring-onion... definitely not a place worth to recommend.
thank you for showing respect by learning our language, take care
Hi Andre. That old wooden house is build around 1768 and reconstructed in 1998 and Mr. Bronisław Palarczyk open a little museum.

If you still there and you are looking for really good food go to Angel's pub. The cab which you were passing by on the other movie is actually 'poster' of that restaurant. You'll find yourself in there as this is British style pub, but food and service there is at top level. You can also try 'placki ziemniaczane' on the other side of the river. There's wooden restaurant as well but usually they are made way better than that waste which they gave you to eat. Try them with sour cream and sugar (sweet) or with goulash (salty). Good luck!
Nice video
There are old wooden houses in nerby Istebna. For example: Kurna chata in Istebna. Or in nerby Koniaków they have the world biggest lace.
Yeah I recomend that as well.
This potatoes dish unfortunately has been messed up. Base on that how this place was looks like I’m not surprised that wasn’t the best version of this traditional polish dish. If you really would like to try the best of the best traditional polish food made in grandma’s style, I strongly recommend Karczma pod Srzechą in place called Plock ( central Poland). You can also try to find any other place which looks like an old cottage or wooden house village style. Places like you choose is too busy and is more like fast food.

I’m SO SORRY for your food experience!! That was UNACCEPTABLE!! Not sure what sort of potato pancakes those were - but they certainly weren’t what they should be!! First off, they should NEVER be so huge and slobbered with sour cream - I think they did that to cover the burnt pancake!! They are savory so NO SUGAR either!!! If that had been me I would have gone right back to the vendor and have her eat them!!! They had NO BUSINESS serving them to you!!! SHAME ON USTRON and all those vendors!! If you want to have some good food PLEASE go to a larger city like Krakow - there are so many wonderful restaurants!! This was an embarrassment t - I’m so sorry!!!!
Agreed. Mightbe they have too many customets so care less. Not nice ☹️
To be honest I agree that there's too much of the sour cream, but it's actually quite common to eat the potato pancakes with sugar at least in my area - near Poznań. I mean, I still prefer them with goulash or some kind of savory sauce, but for example my parents only eat them with sugar and sometimes sour cream. And they have to be cooked to a crisp.
@@666radke how do you make yours?? Because where we are from we use black pepper to give it a zesty taste
@@DANUSIA11 As easy as it can be - potatoes, flour, egg, sometimes some onion, salt. Some people prefer to make them without the onion if they are going to eat them with sugar, but it's actually really tasty in my opinion if you add the onion when eating them with sugar.

Oscypek (cheese) traditionally is made from sheep milk. But it is almost impossible to get one. Placki ziemniaczane - potato dish you had - it was burned in some places and raw in others. I recommend Wisła, my home town which is right next to Ustroń. You can literally walk the pathway you were on today (the one with the bike lanes) to Wisła and it won't take long. Wisła is much better for tourists and there's more attractions. I recommend going on the Skolnity wyciąg (ski lift) in Wisła as the views are super pretty.
