- Lego train level crossing automated by Arduino. Another lego train crash at the lego train level crossing! It turns out that the guy working there just wants to relax all day long. Only one solution: automating the thing!

This video shows a level crossing which is automated by Arduino. When the sensor detects a train, the barriers are closed and the lights start flickering. As long as the sensor detects the train, the barriers remain closed. Once the train has passed the sensor, a delay prevents the barriers to open too soon. As actuators I have used the vintage 12V actuators that are also used in the Lego 7866 double level crossing set (also automated in this video).

Ah yeah the jungle train! I had written down the idea. Maybe somewhere in the future. Would be a bit costly, I don't have any lego jungle sets (yet)

It's an MOC but heavily based on the 7755 set
You should make it start blinking a while before the things ( idk what they are called in english) go down, like on real crossings. So nobody gets caught between them and get hit by a train
Correct. But then I need to put the sensor further away as the barriers need time to close. This was not practical in this layout

The railway network doesn't know (yet) ;)

That is easily done by moving the sensor a bit further :)
what sensor is used to detect the train?
This one: www.pololu.com/product/1132 . I totally recommend it: it's very stable, unlike the cheap ones you find on dx.com.
