Oh, a big YES on Pintrest! I love that sight. I think one of my favorite things about any modeling is doing research. I do a LOT of it with my model trains. I want to know the why, when and where a certain piece of equipment was used, when it was retired and whatnot. Mark Batson even mentioned it in his shop card shout out for me that he saw that I dud research.
Great video Mike! The bloopers at the end are awesome. I do research on most of my builds. A lot of my builds are tv or movie cars so I want a fair representation of the car that I’m replicating. While my builds are never 100% screen accurate, family and friends know by looking at them what tv show or movie they are from. I save a lot of reference pictures on my phone prior to starting my build process. Again great video. Have a blessed day my friend! 😀👍🏻

Research is always good. I do all the same things. Problems are what I look for the most. If a kit has issues I want to know what to watch for. I have an external drive that I keep ref pics on. I take tons of pics at car and model shows.
100% my friend! i try to research everything i can think of when I am working on a project, either for correct part location, correct part shape or just to get something right for the upcoming video!! I find half the fun of model building is the research!!
Glad to see a new video from you after some time. My approach varies, and I probably do less reference searching than most. I tend to prefer the plausible versus being perfectly accurate to a specific real world subject. I need to have a vague plan pre-build, but nothing extensive. I'm still learning and relatively new to the hobby compared to most people, but maybe one day I will shift to focusing more on accuracy. For now, I need basic modeling skills as I have none honed or refined lol. Hope to see you at the Silicon Valley Classic if you'll be attending.
I needed a bit of a break. I was sorely disappointed with my #Mustang60 build a needed time to clear my head and start fresh. I have also been busy with my kids and work. I have a lot planned for the next few months, I’m looking forward to showing my builds and progress on my channel. Thanks for the info on the SVC, it’s on my calendar and I hope to be there 👍
I google some pics for color ideas but that’s about it. I will occasionally watch a trusted CZcams channel if I have any problems, but 95% percent of the time I just dive in and build it my way.
I usually look up the car in Google images, and look at what color combinations the car was built in, I don't usually take notes, but I do take pictures at car shows of kits that I have. Sometimes I dive right in, such as my present build, a Revell ASA Thunderbird. Just using the instructions for that one. Thanks!

Of course I do, to get correct placement of wiring, engine tubing, firing order, brake lines interior/exterior you name it I'll look it up. Most of my current wips are based loosely or entirely on something I've seen in person or on line. Improving my skills and being correct...and the challenge both in Carrier jets(USS Forrestal) and Blue Oval builds
Hey Mike, I like to find factory colors to try and match interior/exteriors. But also find build videos to see if there are any quirks to the kit if I haven’t built it myself already. Good questions!
I'm constantly looking at pictures. My favorite place for reference pics are auction sites like bring a trailer and RM soethbys. People will photo every single nut of a car when they are trying to sell it. I do watch a lot of videos too sometimes.
@ScaleSpeedworks most of those auctions have over 100 photos each. One time I ran across a car with over 300 photos. It was insane what all they took pictures of.
If I'm doing a replica of a certain vehicle yeah I'll research. When I built my replica of Goliath from Knight Rider I watched all the episodes with him vs Kitt brother. 😊
My research depends on the build. Sometimes I research for curiosity reasons or not sure what color to paint or place a part. Other than that I dont always research.🤔

I reach for exterior and interior colors. Colors of the motor. Wiring and plumbing. But most of all I try to make the build as simple as possible.
