- Our guest this week is none other than our guy and brand new member of The New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson. Topics include: Why he ultimately chose to play for The New York Knicks, his relationship with Tom Thibodeau, and his dad Rick Brunson, leaving The Dallas Mavericks, what he's looking forward to most about living in NY, the relationships he'll miss in Dallas, last year's playoff run against The Utah Jazz, The Phoenix Suns and The Golden State Warriors, how he dismantled The Jazz, how they upset The Suns and what makes The Golden State Warriors SO special.

Im an Athletic Trainer and hearing the appreciation early in this conversation was really awesome. The job easily turns into a thankless and underpaid profession for a majority of AT's across the country and hearing they are valued was really refreshing.
Thank you for all that you do.
When I played ball in high school my athletic trainer was amazing. He was the most popular guy on the team kept everyone in good spirits lol
had an athletic trainer after i tore my acl+rehab and that dude getting me back into basketball shape was a blessing. thank you for all you and other ATs do
Once I sign a 10day with the grizzlies I'll hit u up
I remember when Javale McGee did vlogs during the bubble and interacting with the trainers was literally the best part
This guy has been a winner all his life and he was getting close with Dallas. Underrated.
He can kiss that goodbye now. He’s about to become very familiar with loss.
This dude said authentic and gave PR answers as JJ shook his head yes… who actually thinks JJ is authentic?
@@danishstrikesas long as he balls out. If he underperforms facing those fans/media. Brutal. the more he makes the the worse it will be for him.
@@Joe_Ma99 kiss what goodbye never making it to the finals? No big free agent is willingly moving to Dallas lol😂. Y’all are too good for a top draft pick but not good enough to win it all
@@Joe_Ma99 knicks was just a 4th seed with elfrid payton he’ll be ok 👌🏾
This has become a staple podcast for me. JJ is my favorite basketball voice currently.
This is the best podcast on Beyoncé’s Internet
I've seen him play over the years from college to the pros and I must say this is my first time seeing an interview on him and he's mature and humble much respect
I've always been a believer in Jalen Brunson when the Mavs drafted him. He's got a 90s type of toughness to him, thanks to his father. I hate that JB left Mavs but i wish him well in NY. Yall have a tough dude in NY. he'll survive it all.
Worst part is… I’m pretty sure he wanted an extension sometime during the regular season, which was cheaper, and the Mavs turned him down…
Yeah there’s just no way he could turn down the money they gave him. I think everyone is a fan after this playoffs but they def overpaid him
@@StarLD77 The mavs wanted to be able to include him in a KP trade or some eventuell follow up. Basically as a somebody who had still untapped potential!
They decided to sign DFS to an extension, which meant he couldn't be part of a deal.
After the deadline Jalen bet on himself and won!
I think securing DFS was the right idea, even if Brunson exploded during the time Doncic missed!
I mean, rewatching this podcast os just amazing, the insight and acknowledgment of the people behind the scenes is just extremely refreshing and shows the importance of relationships and how as people we need each other. I loved that part of this interview. Wishing much success to Tommy and JJ and Jalen who is an incredible player. His craftiness, footwork and post game are a joy to watch. Hopefully the Garden can be more excited game in and game out start to finish… with the passion people talk about MSG the crowd in my opinion should be one of the best and its just not currently. But im sure Jalen will demand more of them and with success it will come. Kudos 👏🏽
Watched Jalen during the playoffs he got some killer in him. hope he can help bring the Knicks back to prominence!! Great interview good luck jb
Ehhhh gunna need a little more for that
@@ixg1297 playoffs?
@@wjl2068 yes he had a nice little playoff run he’s still not gunna be one of your stars he’s an average player if he’s your #1 option that’s not saying much
@@ixg1297 he had one good playoffs out of 3 and post jazz he was that consistent. Knicks paid him like an all star I hope all the best for Jalen and I hope he becomes one. But just like Melo he won't win with Knicks
@@connorjohns6484 I like Jalen I just don’t agree with ppl who think he is gunna magically turn this Knicks team around
I'm glad Jalen is planning on workouts with the young core to start building chemistry before training camp. Also cool that his grandparents are still in Long Island. This is such an underrated move for the Knicks that will have a huge impact.
Great to hear Jalen talk a little bit about his dad and their relationship, you can tell Mr. Brunson did his job
Stoked to finally see the Knicks pick up a proper point guard. Hoping he brings his winning culture to the franchise.
This podcast is better to consume than anything that espn spouts out
Great interview with our new Knicks' point guard. Keepin' it real. Tangible. It is why this is the best first media interview for Jalen. We Knicks fans can't wait. More could be coming, but we are thrilled to have Jalen in the driver's seat. He is a true leader and mensch. A pleasure to hear and see a fellow Sag Haborite develop (with Tommy) his new chops so well.
ESPN & the rest of the media punching the air right now.
Love the content.
I will always support Jalen Brunson. As a Mavs fans, he kept us in the mix when Luka was hurt. So happy for you Jalen, go show them Knicks how the Mavs win.
Always a great interview JJ. I do hope the Mavs can perform just as good with their new line up.
I like Brunson a lot. Hope he shines in NY!
JB the only point guard in the league wit all big man badges 😂😂
💯
JB’s post game is money💲💲
guy finished college and won a chip for his university, just a hard worker. Happy that he was picked by Dallas, was really surprised that time coz I watched a docu about him before draft day. I'm an MFFL still I'm happy for JB. The opportunity he had, is once in a lifetime and is really hard to pass.
Two college chips actually
LEGEND!!! As a DIEHARD Mavs fan, I have loved everything about Brunson, in terms of character, work ethic, & performance... WISH YOU NOTHING BUT THE BEST & Gracias for being a role model leader...#RESPECT
I really hope the Knicks DONT trade our young core just to get Donovan. 1. I think Jalen operates best when he’s the floor general dominating the ball. 2. You can see the level of maturity and leadership this guy has, and it would be great to have him as a leader for the younger players . He’s way ahead of his years !
And 3. The Knicks won't be much better at all if they trade assets for Donavan Mitchell who is essentially a more athletic Jalen Brunson
Statistically Brunson was always better with another ball handler on the court instead of being the sole guy. Dallas kind of needed to have at least Dinwiddie out there with him. He did show glimpses of being able to handle the load against Utah but he was best with someone else to help out even if he was the number 1 guy at the time.
Best of luck to Jalen! Great guy and you definitely gotta take care of yourself first in this case!
Love the Draymond Green praise towards the end 💯
The knicks are building the “all left hand” lineup 🤣😭🤣🤣💪🏾
Was waiting for this. Good way to start my friday
Nice video, I trully believe Jalen is gonna make the Knicks 10x better, and soon big names will join too.
Brunson seems like a good person. I'm a Warriors fan but he really stood out to me in the playoffs. He was a major pain. Not surprised that he got a big contract. Hope he has success with his new team.
He said “Leader.” I love hearing that from a Knick!
Please have him on AGAIN!!!!
Man I hope Jalen Brunson takes the next step as a 1st option. Seems like such a good dude.
He’s not a first option, which is OK. We’re not bringing him here to be the savior, but a key piece on the team.
@@harlemkidd82485 he got paid as a 1st option which is weird
@@Yankel323 So what🤷🏽♂️look around the league at pg contracts and 2 yrs brunson will be around the 17th highest paid pg..and with contracts like Bradley beal's you can't say brunson is paid as the 1st option

@@Yankel323 stfu. Randle gets paid more than him. He didnt get paid as first option
This guy is awesome!
Slowly becoming one of the best sports outlets
As a Mavs fan I'm happy for him. I hated to see him leave but he deserves what he got
Been the most underrated PG for a while now. Now that he finally gets to play pg, people are going to recognize what he’s capable of next season
I go back to this episode a lot
Hope fans in NY don't take this guy for granted. He's a winner and a top notch competitor.
Man we miss him so much in Dallas
goodluck jalen !!ty for the time for mavs! you will forever miss!!
This is what I love about former NBA players' podcasts. Its just like buddies having a chat, its awesome to watch. Just saw Draymond's with Lou Will too.
Whenever I see Jalen Brunson i'm reminded of Isaiah Thomas and how he never got his big pay day. Glad Brunson got his bag as a small guard who had his breakout perfomance during the playoffs.
As a knicks fan his a culture change true professional & definition of hard work
Let's go Knicks! Great chat with Jalen, JJ & Tommy.
Wishing the best for Jalen 🙌🏾
Will miss him in Dallas but goddamn I wish JB all the best wherever he plays. What a stand up dude. And that midrange game!
No sensational vibes for MFFLs like me. Good luck to JB on NYK
Mad props to jalen the man is an absolute dawg so good to see the kid get his dues super well deserved my guy much love hopefully he can change the knicks culture up a bit and maybe they can beat true one of these days
Great questions by JJ and Tommy
S/o to JJ for a thoughtful interview, ESPN would have fumbled the interview with poor uninformed takes
Young man has a lot of game! I like him!!!
We not mad JB get your Bag. Your a winner
happy for JB, what he did in game2 vs Jazz. i will not forget
Straight up! If you own your performance good and bad and work hard every night we will love you! Can’t wait to see what you got! Great things to come!
I'm very happy that he got the money. You can argue if he deserved it or not but it doesn't matter because he got it. Hope you do well in NY Jalen!
JJ with another W networks wish they could get these interviews so quick players controlling the story 💯
J.J PLEASE get Dwight Howard on this. I would love to hear his thoughts on the ups and downs of his career considering his prime and the fall and then how he came back
Lets go baby 🔥🔥
Once again letting the players have their voice with insightful questions. Excellent podcast that is akin ( that one is for you JJ) to listening to friends have conversations. Your craft is evolving and is enjoyable. Your ad reads are sophomoric though and the juxtaposition is painful when compared to the real content .
“juxtaposition” Thanks for the new word today
Idk why but I could see Jalen Brunson coach after he retires w his personality
Happy for jb proved so many people wrong grew into an outstanding floor general soon as he got the chance New York took away a good one from dallas
I love u JB welcome to the knicks family
Imagine answering a question about caring about “fans” feeling you are overpaid lol that’s wild buddy shoulda said I’d rather be overpaid than underrated
Chicagos finest 💯
The addition to Jalen Brunson is HUGE for the Knicks. I think the pairing is not as appreciated as it should be by fans because the false narrative media put out that he’s overpaid and the connection to the FO.
However, he is exactly the kind of player Knicks NEEDED! A natural leader, scorer, confident, winner and he is raised around the league so the stage doesn’t seem as big to him. He has a STRONG support system around him and this will affect his teammates in a positive way. It’s really a perfect match!
I think you’re stretching it. It’s good to be optimistic I suppose
@@Senza_1 Tell me what’s not to like about it? Are you gonna argue that “he’s too small”? He’s been hearing it all his life and it never stopped him from achieving at the highest level in ever level of basketball. From HS (won championship), College (Championship), NBA went to the WCF in his 1st year with sufficient min. Even won a playoff series with Luka injured. His contract? He’s paid as a top 15 PG in the league so it’s actually fair. And let’s talk about fit. Are you a Knicks fan? Do you actually watch games or do you just run with media narratives? Because his skillset and abilities are everything the Knicks lacked last year (actually several years).
@@GMB726 look I like his game a lot but if the goal is winning a championship I don’t think paying a 6’1 guard that money who’s not an all star level player is a good idea. But hey I hope it does work out believe me. This is coming from a lakers fan that would LOVE him instead of awful Russ. But lakers also have Lebron and AD, Knicks do not
You can tell that Jalen Bronson is from this culture. He’s not intimidated by engagement. This guy has internal toughness. He’s not a creampuff.
We will see if Knicks made the right deal if they make it to the postseason
@@connorjohns6484 That’s not how you build a team. It has to happen by steps. Jalen is one piece. If you know how to build a business you know how to build a team. Playoffs is no indication that this was a good move by itself.
@@egletonwoodside7636 what is the goal of a team to win even if you lack talent still aim to be better. Thus making playoff/play in is a start/goal or step in the right direction. But Jalen will have to live with the fact that being #1 option is way different than being on a winning team
@@connorjohns6484
He's not a number one option. He's a point guard. This is not a park team. This is an organization that's a business. One of the successes is the NBA trophy. The first success is running a financially successful business. Without doing that you don't have a budget for a team. The facts are the New York Knicks for year's have been the successful financial organization in the NBA. They are a billion dollar organization. I believe the new management staff with patience will build team success on the court to match their business success.
I Haven’t heard him speak anywhere , good content!
Welcome to ny! Just continue to hustle and grind. Orange and blue erryday.
Let's go knicks u heard knicks family on hood 🗽🏀
RIGHT ON TIME FOR MY COMMUTE TO MANHATTAN!
If he owns this next step in any way, shape, or form like he owned my Utah Jazz he's gonna have a super season.
All star with the Knicks, watch
Does he talk about his relationship with Luka in this video? I am curious about that.
JJ every single one of your videos are awesome like someone said in the comments, get bones on too!!!!
Great podcast. Love what you bring to us basketball fans. One thing I wanted to hear asked is why Brunson thought the Mavs lost to the Warriors. Other than the Warriors having players that starred in their roles, what was the difference that made the Warriors such a difficult WCF series vs the previous 2 playoff series.
Aside from what you said, it was the mental know how. They’ve been there before. Williams from the Celtics recently responded to a similar question saying he felt the Celtics were the better team and better momentum but GS just know themselves so well. Don’t fold under pressure, have STEPH and they’re Champions. It’s gonna take a lil more than talent to beat that.
JJ invite the next season MIP - one and only Bones Hyland, I love the guy, his attitude towards life and the game, he will become resident as Tyrese :) Great work on this channel, great content, keep it up, greetings from Serbia!
LET'S GO KNICKS
I forget JJ grew a in Brooklyn as a Knicks fan
Dray is an All-Star role player we know that Brunson. Who doesn’t love the guy who plays hard smart and doesn’t shoot. But all All-Stars can actually do that but they can do what Dray and most can’t and that’s Score the ball.
i want y’all to have jalen green on the show!
Man he worth that money it’s guy’s who don’t put in half the work he do sitting on the pine making near that, he plays hard and put up numbers plus he takes accountability for his part if things not going right much needed in NY
I believe Brunson had always been underrated in Dallas but after getting that bag he has to step up in New York.
JJ has become by far the best content provider for NBA fans, hands down. Did NY overpay for Brunson, probably a little bit. That said when your franchise has been as bad as the Knicks have been you have to overpay to get your first few stars to show up.
He reminds me Chauncey Billups so much
JJ ur the goat. Please try to get Bones on the show

For anyone who thinks he got overpaid, Anfernee Simons literally got the same deal 5 minutes later. He earned his money and got market value for a good starting PG
Or they both got overpaid. But what you said is true no one in the nba really gets a contract that seems equal to their output unless you’re a top five guy.
What I don't get is why his "overpay" was even made a big deal like it was.
I mean, Mike Conley signed for 23 mil on 3 years, Brunson on 26 for 4 isn't much more...?

As a knicks fan id il take that all day lol we gotta build from something 😂
No they won't. Backcourt is too small. 1st round exit.
Miami, Boston, Bucks and Nets(if KD stays) or Philly are top 4.
I just don’t see how Brunson and Mitchell backcourt works 2 6-1 guards who aren’t great defensive players
Yeah small forwards are gonna target them in a mismatch on PNR. Maybe the offense will offset it but for it to work with these two I really do think they need that Cleveland lineup with 3 dudes over 6-10. Still very excited to see this team
This is the kind of Maturity U need to have to play in NY..I have no doubt he will help the Knicks move the needle.
