Production: Saint Thomas Productions & Canal+
Direction: Jean-François Barthod & Jérôme Bouvier
I imagine the penguin documentary guy in the water next to seal guy, just living different experiences.
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Both thinking about how friggin cold they are.
Amazing video! Thank you for posting this and sharing your narration. I absolutely loved it!!
That guys got grande cajones getting in the sea with those big seals but it payed off in the end, it never ceases to amaze me how intelligent other mammals are once you break the ice so to speak lol 😂
Maybe diving while wearing a penguin colored suit did not help😂
I just said the same thing!! I’m glad someone else noticed that!!
To be fair, you’re kinda dressed like a larger penguin. I can see why a Lion Seal would attack you. Let’s be honest, the Seal is there to eat, while you’re there to take pictures and the problem is the Seal doesn’t know that.
I agree
I don't understand why their diversuits are black, if they had hi-viz orange or green ones I'm pretty sure the big seals would then think I'm not eating that horrible looking penguin lol 😂
*Leopard seal
Sea lions are very different then leopord seals!
i believe Tiger Seal would have the same thought...
Bra film Göran. Ska kolla din roliga föreläsning..❤
Lol the penguins probably have nostalgia like "hey remember when it was just seagulls trying to kill us? And, you know, not an actual fucking sea monster? Good time-" and then he gets eaten by said sea monster, because shes trying to feed this weird bald ass seal with a camera.
My most feared animal in the world is by far the leopard seal. I know I will likely never see one in my entire life but the idea of my last sight being a leopard seal smiling at me before it drags me 200ft underwater to completely devour me frightens me more than any other animal…
seals wont drag you down
Or a crocodile drowing you! That must be awefull!
They won't eat you. They drowned that 1 lady but didn't eat her.
Ug, the narration is every reason why I prefer UK documentaries.
:) I imagine that.
The beginning of the video is so melodramatic. Really off-putting. Going to look for a more scientific focused documentary.
August 6, 2003. The death of a British marine biologist in Antarctica last month is thought to be the first human fatality caused by a leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx). But scientists fear further seal attacks as the number of people working in the region continues to rise.
wild nature! incredibly good footage. When that leopard seal offers the diver her prey:) Damn!
Incredible documentary, many thanks from Canada ❤♥💙👍👍
plus she needed to breathe , and at same time watches you to see if you attack or flee . she sees you're no threat that way and also may have something she decides shade rather not test . your black suit and gear makes you look more strong to her ... I feel. and THANK YOU. I LOVE LEOPARD SEALS ... SCARY THO. I WOULDNT TRY THAT EVER ..
very educational
恐ろしく美しい生き物ですね
群れないのに社交性もあるのが素晴らしい
No magic medicine
Such a beautiful animal
It also completely goes against what we always associate seals to be: doe eyes, long whiskers, innocent, sweet faces, balancing things on their noses for fun, playful and cute!
Leopard seals are the exact opposite in every possible way.
Brilliant channel 🙏🙏💯💯👊👊🇮🇪🇮🇪
最後は本当に感動😭
Ida at least grabbed my gift to see her reaction
I think the camera 📸 miss that leopard seal from the last encounter so he went back to take a family photo 🤣 for memory
J'ai adoré le documentaire! Le seigneur des glaces.

The might be nightmare fuel, but that's why I like them
That female leopard seal sees the camera man as a funny looking seal with blue flippers.
She was asking for a date.
Looks like the vision of “Death!” Yet, such a regal & polarizing creature nevertheless
Thank you!
My great great grandfather and his people were natives who used to trap and train leopard seals to dive for crabs and oysters
Eğitilebilir hayvanlar mı
Those are some smart seals trading crabs and oysters for venison.
Natives in the Antarctic??? 😅
I would love to learn more about this. What is the name of this indigenous group?
Poor penguins, they are a smorgasbord for the leopard seals.

@@juanitarichards1074 haha it’s a swedish word, I’m a swede, that’s why I made that comment ;)
@@kimmyrask7368 Some cultures wouldn't know either....we all have different names fr things. In NZ - and Scotland and other similar countries we grow a vegetable called "Swede" for putting in soups and stews or we eat it mashed with butter. It's an old fashioned vege now but us oldies know what it is and how to cook it. "Swede" is also a slang word for "head" - "watch your Swede!" Or "he banged his swede". LOL
awesome
He soooooo cute
I would be like if a group of Leapord Seals appeared a friend of mine would be like. “Is it POSSIBLE they’re smiling at us?!” I would said. “If they are smiling it’s probably because they’re looking at the next meal.”
well, not very smart to dive with an apex predator, specially the ones that have solitary behave....
it´s like to have a walk in the jungle with a tiger or a jaguar..of course they're going to be aggressive and eat you like those nugget penguins..
scariest movie i've seen in years.
The ending 🥹💛
Life doesn't make sense. Poor penguins.
Narrator: the effects of Global warming have caused temperatures to increase in the last .....Nobody understands the implications....
Me: oh dont worry captain, somebody in the comments will voice their expert opinion
So true lol
Leviathan.... really? Bit of hyperbole there.
18:43 black faced penguin if you can spot it
👍
The leopard seal drove you aggresivly out of the water? Well did it attack? You make it seem like you were scared from an attack but there was none
wow, the teeth it has. Cat like teeth
The penguins were okay though right?
Where the hell is the killer whale when you need one LOL
They’re almost extinct…. Orcas would have helped keep the population in check, but since there aren’t many left, which has thrown everything out of balance
Meany orcas acctally stay away from leopard seals to not risk petential injurys and insted target seals such as weddell and crabeater seals, crabeater seals beaing the most ubundent out of all seal spices numbering 15 million individuals thats basically half the world wide seals population! As there is a huge endless abundence of krill there making as much as 80% of there diet! Weddell and leopard seals have lower seal populations 800,000 and 350,000, no seals are truly over poppulated in antarctica just in some small arrias such as leopard seals going after fur seals.

Oh my God how did the poor penguins eat without getting eaten I'm guessing this is just one of another one of Nature's brutalities the beauty if you can look at it like that
I'm also sad for the penguins but you know this is nature ...hard to see for sure but that's normal
its not that deep bro its just nature and nature is brutal
@@G0DSFACE-s3sThe endless cycle of life and death. Also for us as humans fighting for life but our lives ending in death. Some brutally. Its nature.
Alguien mas lloro con el final?
No, because I'm not an overly emotional fragile minded snowflake, and I understand that nature doesn't care about feelings.
In its eyes, Penguin=roasted chicken
the seal saw another seal in the camera (which is her own reflection) and that explains why she offered the catch to the cameraman
Maybe , but they are smart after all !
Maybe she wanted to play fetch!
Is there reflections under water?
It’s been documented behavior for decades, even without the lens.
@@zackzittel7683we really need to learn more about these seals, this behavior is truly something special...makes me think they could be on par with orcas
You know I wouldn't have been so surprised about seeing that different still take that penguin because how do you think the leopard seal got started had to get started somewhere in no better than the place where this seals is starting to learn how to eat meat that's what they call evolution folks that's how different species evolve
You would have too chain me up too the boat to have me not try and pet it

Beautiful animals. I imagine, that in less than 10 million years, they can evolve to a killer whale species.
10 million years? To completely change its biological functions, purpose, means of propulsion, developing echo-location, and exponential brain growth? Try hundreds of millions of years if ever.
That's now how evolution works
Orcas will eat leopard seal
leopard seals are apex predators.
🤮
Speaking as a human, I think leopard seals are terrifyingly dangerous and should be banned by the UN.
What an awful, exaggerated script.
What do You mean
Please elaborate
I don't know all I can see is there's way too many leopard seals at this point of time and it looks like it's unfortunately time to even out the seal herds in the most humane way possible. At this point being Penguins will go extinct and then very not far after that the leopard seals will go extinct
lol what? both leopard seals and penguins this far into the antarctic are practically undisturbed by humans and are operating the same way they have done for thousands if not tens of thousands of years. if the leopard seals eat too many penguins, the number of seals will drop in response. classic predator-prey population relationship. no need to change it
what are you even talking about lol
@@onlineskitty You do realize the ice is melting?
@@grilledflatbread4692 what does that have to do with this persons comment lol? theyre implying that leopard seals are gonna somehow make penguins extinct singlehandedly
🌮🌯🥗🥣
You're on of those m o r o n s who just posts emojis that don't relate to anything in the video. People like you are the w o r s t.
At this point it's almost like it's time to even the odds by removing a few of these leopard seals I don't see how the Penguins will be able to exist maybe and hopefully I'm wrong but it seems like we always screw something up by doing this I just don't see a predator of the seal and the seal has easy pray with the penguins and with this kind of Slaughter the penguins cannot last very long how this has been going on so long I don't know there must have been thousands hundreds of thousands more penguins
human interference would completely ruin the ecosystem. leopard seal and penguin populations keep each other in check
Seals have been eating penguins for millions of years. It’s called nature. And the last thing nature needs is humans screwing up yet another ecosystem. There’s a reason why penguins give birth to so many young. It’s the same strategy as turtles. A few weak ones will get eaten. While the strong and successful ones live to mate again. Nature.
11:50 WHERE YOU GOING YA PANSEY
youd think the penguins would make the trek te second a kill is made which gives them the precious seconds while the seal is killing and eating. not sure why he even needs a weight belt considering his massive balls must weigh 100lbs
i hate seeing sweet penguins getting killed
Its just nature taking its course
