You didn't charge nearly enough, double the actual cost of the sheets because your time is worth money. A 2 year old pothos in an 8" pot goes for $59.00 at the plant store I shop at plus your time to go and get a new one.
Hi friends! It's always tough going through something like this for the first time as a host. I've hosted many film crews, and all of them have had some form of issue. It's good to understand that if you do host them that something probably will come up whether it be something broke, dirty, or them checking out later than they are supposed to. However, if you charge them an additional fee to film there in the first place this can offset some of your frustrations. I chalk it up to expecting things like this because we are in the hospitality business, and just making sure that I get paid on the forefront for it. Additionally, if something is damaged I would also charge them for it. Since I've been hosting for sometime now things have gotten easier, and I don't stress about issues like this. I hope the same becomes true for you lovely couple!
That IS such BS!!! My kids are film creators and they would have never have done that! I’ve had my kid’s have 20 people film at my house and there’s never been anything like that. I’m kind of wondering if they were creating a horror film and it was fake blood. You can not get that stuff out of anything!
I live near a large university with a film school. Many years ago I dated a film student and worked with him on a couple shoots and know how much work and the mess filming creates. Anyway, every year in the fall I get approached by a student to film as well as twice have had a request by our local indie studio bc of the age of my house etc. My answer is always no.
Knowing all the problems you had if you were to do it again just take into account the potential cost of extra cleaning and drama in the charge you negotiate
Pothos is fairly easy to grow- just take cuttings below the node, put it into water and it grows super fast. You can leave it in the water or plant it in the soil. Maybe you can have some “back up” pothos at your home.
Such a pain to handle that kind of stuff, more than the money. It was good that they payed for all the extras but the stress can't be payed. What I've learned is leaving some kind of fine in the contract that is activated if the house is simply too much trashed
Sorry for the stress you went through because of this situation. It's so much worse to have to handle things remotely, I know! It's probably easiest to replace the sheets, but I have found that stains will come out (even after going through the dryer) if soaked for several days with oxyclean and biz. The other thing I am doing to make bed changes easier is to use quick zip sheets for the bottom sheet and possibly the whole set. They are not cheap to start with, but you only have to replace (or wash) the flat part of the sheet and then zip it on to the part that goes under the mattress. But regardless, too bad AirBnB doesn't have a category to charge for "pain and suffering!"

I had a family stay at my Airbnb for a month and left it in pretty much the same condition. It’s not just film crews that do this. (Trash overflowing, fridge full, blood stained sheets, left dirty underwear and clothes behind, left a full size clothing steamer that I didn’t want and had to deal with.) People are just messy sometimes and it sucks.
Hydrogen peroxide takes out all blood stains and other bodily fluids. I've had this happen several times at my AirBNB and didn't lose the sheets or have to take extra time laundering. I add some Dawn dish soap directly to the stain as an added measure. We also leave a bottle in the laundry rooms with instructions for the guests to use on those kinds of stains. I hope this helps.
Also, there was so much to deal with there may be things later on that you didn’t realize happened they could’ve taken dishes lots and things they could’ve broke stuff that you don’t realize now, so don’t feel sorry for these people. I don’t know why you handle it off of Airbnb but hopefully they didn’t give you a bogus check. Good luck.
Also, I wanted to add one of the ladies that I worked for at Rosemary Beach. She eventually decided the gas needed to pay for the insurance for any damages nonrefundable. I don’t know how that worked for her maybe something could do consider
Michael, for the sand on the bottom of the cowboy tub .... why not simply use a hose and siphon the sand out of the bottom ? But then i guess you have to keep refilling with fresh water between guests as it has no chemical water maintenance... I also had a film crew & 6 young men , make unauthorised , unexpected film at my property in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico . ( a porn ) . Since then i have installed a security camera outside the front door . I was not so concerned that it was an adult film as much as it was about pulling the wool over me and not giving me the right to charge a professional rate for the time at my home .

I think you are kindred spirits with the film people because you make a short film every week! Having been involved with student films and independent productions, those all nighters, I wouldn't allow them in my rental. Maybe a photo shoot or commercial. Their philosophy is it is better to ask forgiveness than permission and no one is in charge of clean up. Just my experience, I'm sure there are more responsible individuals out there. Another airbnb channel, can't remember which, had a film crew leave fake blood splattered all over the walls!
I love watching your channel and I love the personal approach to the rental but I'm not sure what the goals are with the STR and life. If you are trying to just have a near free vacation home 2 hours away you are doing fine. If you are trying to build a business y'all might reevaluate the plan because this STR is not replicable without systems and processes to streamline the workflow. It would be nearly impossible for y'all to run two of these properties unless they were actually in your back yard. Of course this is just my opinion based on the curated content and more than likely is an inaccurate assumption based on such. Regardless I will continue to watch and wish y'all much success.

We've talked about this a bunch but our main goal was to be able to buy our first property that we can start to build equity to leverage another one with because everywhere in CA is really expensive. Having a free vacation home is a dream. We enjoy sharing the journey and also make income on sharing our experiences. I think two of these would definitely be a lot but when we get there we'll set up a management team. We're real people, with real lives and we've had some personal issues slow us down this last year from where we wanted to be. Thanks for being here and watching along! If it's business always add an extra fee to cover unforseen costs. We have a couple of classic cars which have featured in various productions. Unbelievable how the claim is always 'low budget'.....it's anything but! I understand your grievance about the plant, you nurtured it for two years. 😢
The person who booked the place was actually very nice and wasn't fighting us on anything and felt really bad. We basically just wanted everything replaced and that's what it came out to be.

We handled it off airbnb because they were super nice and felt really bad. They paid us through Zelle so it wasn't too big of a deal.
In Italy we definitely do not cut over the Christmas tree, we don't kill trees for Christmas we keep it alive in the garden...
Hydrogen peroxide is like magic for blood stains. Pour a little on the stain and it dissolves almost immediately 😀

Ice water is the best blood remover, soak the item in ice water with oxyclean powder.
