  • Come along as we travel to the Blue Maiden, also known as Blåkulla, where the archaeologists discover remains from the stone age.
This uninhabited island is situated between Öland and the mainland. Tourist boats can take you there during the summer and wind shelters allows for over night stays if booked in advance (link below). The boat docks directly on the rocks since the island lacks a harbor, which makes a successful landing very much dependent on the weather.
This time the archaeologists hitched a ride with the Sea Rescue Organisation. During four nights they slept in the guard’s cabin where one could hear the witches roam in the dark. By daytime excavations were done, finding both quartz and flint.
This was the second archaeological excavation on the island. The first one was done by Kalmar County Museum and led to the discovery of a large cultural layer, traces of ritual activities and carbon 14 dating to about 7000 B.C.
