Just a correction meaghers brigade was known as the Irish brigade. The “fighting 69th” was one of 5 regiments that made up the brigade. Their official name was the 69th New York infantry

Irish Brigade was at the center of almost every major battle of the Army of the Potomac, the biggest battles ever fought in the Western Hemisphere. Irish were welcome to apply for the position of canon fodder. The South also threw their Irish immigrants into the heat of every battle.
