The Basel Town Hall is a 500-year-old building dominating the Marktplatz in Basel, Switzerland. The Town Hall houses the meetings of the Cantonal Parliament as well as the Cantonal Government of the canton of Basel-Stadt.
A visit to the Rathaus (city hall) is worthwhile especially on account of the council chamber, the attractive inner courtyard, the romantic arcades and the tower. It was built after the great earthquake to replace the former seat of government. After Basel joined the Swiss Confederation, the front part of the building was replaced with an imposing new structure. The coats of arms of Basel and the 11 other members of the then Confederation adorn the crenellations. At the beginning of the 17th century, the city hall was extended, and the artist Hans Bock decorated the facade with painted trompe l'oeil. In 1900 the building was extended again to include the left-hand wing and the tower at the right.

A Câmara Municipal de Basileia é um edifício de 500 anos que domina a Marktplatz em Basileia, Suíça. A Câmara Municipal acolhe as reuniões do Parlamento Cantonal, bem como do Governo Cantonal do cantão de Basel-Stadt.
Uma visita à Rathaus (Câmara Municipal) vale a pena especialmente pela câmara do conselho, pelo atraente pátio interior, pelas românticas arcadas e pela torre. Foi construído após o grande terremoto para substituir a antiga sede do governo. Após a adesão de Basileia à Confederação Suíça, a parte frontal do edifício foi substituída por uma nova estrutura imponente. Os brasões de Basileia e dos outros 11 membros da então Confederação adornam as ameias. No início do século XVII, a Câmara Municipal foi ampliada e o artista Hans Bock decorou a fachada com trompe l'oeil pintado. Em 1900 o edifício foi novamente ampliado para incluir a ala esquerda e a torre à direita.
