  • This video shows the process of finally getting Old Bones, my 1993 K3500 6.5 Diesel back on the road. I blew the engine about 9 months ago now and have been searching for a solution since then. I have decided to go back with a built 6.5 Diesel engine but had to put all the pieces together to do so. One of those pieces was finding someone who really knew what they were doing with 6.5 Diesel's. Well, I have found "The Diesel Whisperer" in Goodland, Kansas. Brandon Cowan specializes in 6.5 diesels but can do so much more. So, after checking him out, seeing his place and projects I trusted him and his team with bringing Old Bones back to life. And, picked some other projects up along the way. Long trip but well worth it. Thanks for watching.

Old bones brought me here. Loved that truck since it was introduced to the channel. Hate to see it down. But super excited to see you getting him back right. My offer still stands. Soon as i can make the trip & you are ready to sell. Please post it on the tube. I’ll be on my way cash in hand. Great content buddy.

email me at edogokiecars@gmail.com. The truck I brought home is a 1997 K3500 with a 1995 engine in it and a fairly new transmission. I am going through it now and fixing the little things. New windshield is be installed in about 1 hour. Then it needs new door handles on the front doors, cleaned and the front seats repaired. Pretty torn up. But let me know what you are thinking because I will be selling it in about 2 weeks for sure. Thanks Zelly.

I just bought a truck from Brandon about a month ago. One hell of a guy to talk to and work with and he knows his stuff. Bought a 1996 k3500 from him

Yep, he knows his stuff and after seeing his place, talking with him about projects I knew he was for real. We will be doing alot of projects together in the future and he should be a regular addition to the channel. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.

So far the only 3 things I've done is cut catalytic converter and muffler off straight piping exhaust. Removed the blow by tube from the intake side of turbo and put it to the ground underneath. And since mine is newer I have PMD issues. I moved the pmd into the cab by floor vents to keep it cooler in summer time

I got to be honest, I really feel like you're making a big mistake not doing a Cummins swap right off the bat. I completed my Cummins swap in my 98 K 3500 Dually last summer and can tell you for sure it was the right decision. It is a fair bit noisier than it was, but not having to worry about the faulty Electronics, I'm not having to worry about Parts availability, and really not having to worry about it breaking down on the road was super motivating. In fact, I drove from Tennessee to South Dakota this past week, put almost 30 100 miles on the truck towing my car trailer and it did wonderfully. Never got hot, never hiccup, did any speed that I needed to do, and fuel economy wasn't too bad either. I do need to swap out my 410 gear with something better to get my revs down, but all in all it was a great trip. No issues whatsoever. The swap definitely was not cheap, as I replaced everything with new parts and upgrades where needed, but at least I have a truck that I feel one hundred percent confident in. Mechanically, it's going to run forever. I hope your 6-5 does you well, but if it ever failed again, I wouldn't hesitate to put a Cummins in it. It's definitely the right engine for the trucks.

Agree with you but had to give the 6.5 one more try. And now that I have someone who knows how to work on them, felt it was a good choice. That being said, there are definitely Cummins swaps in my future. Stay Tuned..........And thanks for watching and commenting.

Sean, they were 285/75/16 if I remember correctly. Just big enough to make the stance look right. I think one of my earlier videos goes into the tire swap in more detail if you look back a few videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.
