    Isn’t it wierd how you tell yourself that you don’t like what you’ve created, only to look at it with new eyes and loving it a few days later? The lies that live in our heads!!!

    Fascinating journey with this piece, I always love the process to get to the end result. When painting abstract I look at it as starting at the bottom of a mountain, and along the climb their are obstacles, hurdles, different paths taken, struggles and when you finally get to the top of the mountain the end result is like a breath taking view. A gorgeous little piece well done!

    This comes at the perfect time for me. I've painted all my life and am bored with my own attempts to explain and explore the lovely woodlands and autumn colours or spring and summer and the water and all. Boring in water colour, pastel, acrylics, oils you name it.
    So I let go!!! Um. timidly....Then I found you!! What a great example of the sort of beautiful and interesting and colourful, subtle and even tasteful way to let go! Now I am enjoying even the failures and they are only failures when the paper gives out or I do. Mostly they are fun and lively and sometimes... occasionally beautiful too. There is a long way to go but thank you so much.

      Hey Sweetie! Sounds like you are enjoying yourself and making me happy at the same time!😊 I can do a video at some point, but I can also just answer you here.🤪 I fill my fineliner with diluted acrylic paint. I just mix until I hit a consistency I like. I store mine standing and just make sure that the consistency isn't too thick, because thats what make them clog. Have a wonderful creative summer. Thanks Deb. I dry my pages from time to time, so the paint is dry and doesn't lift. The black and white bottles are fineline applicators. You can find them online if you do a google search. Thats so funny Tara. I am a new yorker🤣🤣🤣 , but I've been in Norway for years and years now. A good tip if you are struggling is to try and doodle on paper before you start painting. Just hold the tip of a pencil or whatever you choose to work with and let your hand relax and warm up. If you still have trouble when you're painting, then turn your head away and don't even look at what you're doing. The fineliner is just what it is. Do a google search for fineline applicators and you'll find them. Happy creating. 🧡💜💙

      Thank you so much. Glad you are enjoying yourself.❤️ It is a wire-o-sketchbook from a german company called Kunst & Papier. It's 12x12" or 28x28cm. 👩‍🎨If you order, just be sure to gesso the page before you start painting in it. ;)

    I love this painting. He said that you varnish the charcoal so it doesn't smear when you begin adding paint. What procedure do you use? Spray on a varnish or do you paint one on and what product or products do you use to do that?

      That was a can of Winsor Newton permanent varnish. It keeps the charcoal from smearing. Use it outside and dry it before painting over. ;)

    • @CathyMevik
      @CathyMevik  Před rokem

      Yes I did. This is an art journal, not work I intend to sell so I didn't see the need to prep afterwards. There is nothing wrong with painting over varnish without prep on small spaces, but in any case, If I had intended to sell this I could just use and acrylic primer over the varnish or sandpaper it lightgly after it dried.
