Because we have an incompetent tourism authority that spends money on long lunches and never gets out to see the real Oz. Individuals do a better job of promoting Australia to the world than the mess that is Tourism Australia.

The water is so blue around Esperence because the sand is like white powder.
A farmer on his land down there built an exact replica of Stonehenge for tourists to visit.

I have 3 questoins:
1. Why is the color in that lake pink?
2. Is it possible to swim there?
3. Such a beautiful beach, why is it so empty? Is it because Australia doesn't have a big population or because it's far from the big cities?
1- because of certain algae in lake
2- safe to swim but is on a island off coast.
3- Yes 700 odd kms to nearest large city and its on West coast of Australia which is less populated.
That's what makes Australia so good....you can go to a stunning beach during week and lot of times have it all to yourself

jjpp kim That’s called pink lake. The high levels of salt mixes with something in the lake that makes it pink!
Lake hillier on Middleton island just off Esperance, pink lake that is on land is no longer pink due to salt mining

It would be nice if Esperance became a vibrant happening town too. Don't mind the sleepy town atmosphere, but it would be even better if it were at least the size of Wollongong or Newcastle, it has great potential for cornering the tourism market in coming decades.

@@hayl33__cb87 Those examples are small towns already. If it were to be a full sized city of over a million people then that would put it closer to Adelaide or present day Auckland. Which are pretty small cities in their own right.
