Muhammad Ali (/ɑːˈliː/; born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.; January 17, 1942 - June 3, 2016) was an American professional boxer, activist, and philanthropist. Nicknamed "The Greatest", he is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century and as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
Ali was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and began training as an amateur boxer at age 12. At 18, he won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics, and turned professional later that year. He converted to Islam and became a Muslim after 1961, and eventually took the name Muhammad Ali. He won the world heavyweight championship from Sonny Liston in a major upset at age 22 in 1964. In 1966, Ali refused to be drafted into the military, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to the Vietnam War. He was arrested, found guilty of draft evasion, and stripped of his boxing titles. He appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which overturned his conviction in 1971, but he had not fought for nearly four years and lost a period of peak performance as an athlete. His actions as a conscientious objector to the war made him an icon for the larger counterculture generation, and he was a high-profile figure of racial pride for African Americans during the civil rights movement. As a Muslim, Ali was initially affiliated with Elijah Muhammad's Nation of Islam (NOI). He later disavowed the NOI, adhering to Sunni Islam, and supporting racial integration like his former mentor Malcolm X.
Ali was a leading heavyweight boxer of the 20th century, and he remains the only three-time lineal champion of that division. His joint records of beating 21 boxers for the world heavyweight title and winning 14 unified title bouts stood for 35 years. Ali is the only boxer to be named The Ring magazine Fighter of the Year six times. - Sport
What I admired about Ali was that he didn't hate anybody, he just loved who he was. I had complete respect for this man. He was a giant.
Very well said
Man? You mean COWARD.
@@GeorgecortCortina Actually, that would be you.
@@videocat1366 He is in the history books as a coward.
@@GeorgecortCortina I know of some who disagreed with his stance against the Viet Nam war, but I don't know of any that called him a coward. Please provide a title of a history book that called him a coward.
They don't make 'em like Muhammad Ali anymore! Truly an icon!
They're always there. They don't always come on media.
Such an amazing fighter yet such a peaceful individual.
He knew who he was. He knew his mission. And he accomplished what he set out to do. Muhammad Ali was the greatest athlete of the 20th Century!
Then why did Joe Frazer knock him out twice???
@@EvenStar303 Joe Frazier never knocked him out what are you on? Frazier knocked him down in their first fight but Ali got up jn a second. Frazier won their first fight by unanimous decision. Ali won the other two fights. The second one dominantly by unanimous decision and their last fight by stoppage! NO KO's.
@@EvenStar303 He got knocked down, but he eventually got back UP. That's part of his greatness.

What a beautiful man, his mind was beautiful, but so was his face and body, like a beautiful African Pharaoh ❤!

Ali and television were made for each other. The camera loved him and he was a compelling personality.

Ali was such a marvel. His thought process was pure and clear. No prejudice, just facts, just love and a quest to bring to the fore decency and humanity to all people. I learn something new every-time I listen to him.

What a truthful man.

Mohammed Ali was humble, truthful, and a great story teller! He also was a visionary. His presence truly helped make this world a better place! He's truly missed "!
Not by any Americans or vets.
You couldn’t DARE interview anybody like this in 2021… but I’m DAMN glad to hear this because it’s MUCH better to know where people are at in the head… RIP to the great!! He handled this well.
Why not? The system is only as powerful as you allow them to be. Your comment clearly indicates you're a submissive follower. I'm a leader. And that whole cancelling business is unconstitutional and illegal. Lol everything they do now can be fought and won against in court. The only thing the systems banking on is uneducated people like you
You probably was for the coronavirus vaccine.
You are too timid and submissive. You are a sheeple because you're so quick to bow to the powers that be. Question everything.

Charisma in abundance 👏🏾
Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X truly helped shape Ali to be the greatest of his potential. Ali is 1 of 1
I've seen him in different aspects of his life and I've admired him for a very long time. He's also very easy on the eyes 😊
So are you

I love you Muhammad Ali! We miss you a lot on this planet!
I love the way he’ll be talking like calm and kool and jovial then all of a sudden he’ll infuse it with dark and heavy words like Jim Crow and lynching and watch the faces of the audience ochange like almost all of them seem a bit confused as in scared with guilt and at the same time not knowing whether to keep giggling and laughing or what??? Breathless 😘😉👏
He’s definitely The Champ of all times 💕🌹❤️🇬🇭🙏
I just love it when I get that pop up saying "Someone has liked your comment" or "Someone has subscribed!"🎄Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 🎉🥰🎉🎄🎄
Thanks same too u 😃
Baba Muhammad Ali is my mentor &hero..
He spoke truth as well as he made you laugh without fear nor favour.
Baba Muhammad Ali apart from being an athlete in the ring, but a mentor and human rights leader across the world.
Ali was an amazing athlete and so much more because he had principles and ideals and stuck with them in spite of the consequences. He is so missed while also always loved.
Why are white women so cringeworthy?
Schooling doesn't make a man, but the heart of a man does! And how he handles the schooling life teaches. And this man is one of the greatest examples of what it is to free. Thank you God for letting us experience him!

Words of real wisdom from Ali. I've always loved him.

This man is... Wow! Beautiful soul
Brother Muhammad!
Sleep peacefully😔❤🌹👑✊🏿🥊
A lot of rude questions thrown at the champ, even by his own race. But just like a boxing bout, he always intelligently bopped and weaved then swung comedy that knocked the whole room out! We miss you Ali. RIP 4 real!!!
True
A question is only rude if the person being asked is offended. The greats are hard to offend.
Ali handled all those questions better then most could have. The man was certainly an individual of very high intellect.
"even by his own race"? Why should it matter?
WAIT, didn't Clay get kicked out of boxing?
Poor Ali, my heart went out to him when he exclaimed “I’ve fought him three times!” Gives us an idea of the sort of pressure being placed on him…If he’d been ALLOWED to retire he may have kept his health longer. He was a giant and a legend…stood up for what he believed in even when it caused him great sacrifice, hero! Xxx❤
He was already affected by his late health problems. You can see it by the way he talked…
What a great story teller! The Greatest by all means.

@@gradyhernandez4699 he was another great and still got great heart for Jack Johnson aka king Kong
This appearance demonstrates he is the greatest and he is not even in the ring. Ali transcended the sport. And you can see him smirk when he proclaims his greatness.
I saw Ali in person once in the early evening when I was going to my car after classes in Detroit. I saw a big bus that said Cassius Clay and he was in the headlines because the Liston fight was coming up. The bus was in front of a gym called The Big D, I think, and I paid $1 or $2 to see him spar with Wild Bill Cody who was big and strong and resembled Liston. He was so fast it looked like it was staged and Wild Bill was deliberately moving slow. I also saw George Chuvalo spar and he looked good.
No way I could've kept my cool with that first phone caller being so belligerent. Ali is the best
Fell in love with Ali and boxing, because of Ali when I was 12.
He had his flaws like everyone but despite that he was the greatest to a lot of us...still. The hardest part to take is how he took such a pounding on his comeback through his 30s and lost his ability to express himself verbally. The first signs were apparent in this show. He was way more than a great boxer.
RIP Ali We 💐💐💐are all better because you were here.
Brings tears to see him
His speech started Slowing Down around 1974 , He was a Faasst Quick Talker in the 1960's
I disagree I say around 1978 or 79 was when his speech started to decline
So humble, thoughtful and intelligent. I really enjoyed this. Thank you.
From the onset of this interview you can detect Ali ‘s beginnings of Parkinson’s . Miss you always will be Champion of the World 🤴🏿🤴🏿🤴🏿🤴🏿🤴🏿💯👑👑❤️🩹💐

This was after the Shavers fight, the damage was catching up to him.
Other than the Honorable Dr. Khalid A. Muhammad this Phil Devilhue show was the 2nd greatest broadcast ever. Rest In Power Champion 🏆
Phil had the Honorable Louis Farrakhan on at least three times. Minister Farrakhan the world's most powerful speaker backed by the God Allah and His Christ/Messiah.
My favorite person in the world, along with 🎉Elvis Presley ,Evel Knievel! 70s being a kid. Muhammad Ali was about my favorite
ELVIS and then Muhammad (SO much alike in SO many ways...), Johnny Carson, Jerry Lewis, oh, yes, I saw all of Evil Knievel's stunts, always exciting events. Still, I always hoped he wouldn't get hurt, John Wayne, but I like James Arness JUST as much now, by the way, kudos to John for saying how GREAT an entertainer Elvis was AND a human being...Too Hell and Back, Audie Murphy...

BLESSED EVENING STAY SAFE
Amazing interview.
Ali is an Evergreen person created by the Almighty God
You can hear the slurring and the slowing down of his speech here. It started the year before in 1976 but became more pronounced in 1977.
Yeah, it's sad. I able to get his autograph and shake his hand when he was a guest at an exhibition match in 1990. I was just a kid so I didn't understand the extent of his greatness or how he was being slowly taken away by Parkinsons.
I think he was alright before he fought Ernie Shavers.
Its odd seeing Ali not wearing a shirt and tie on a talk show. He was always wearing it.
Update:
The first 5 minutes explained why he wasn't dressed up.
Such a beautiful man in sight and in words. One of a kind!
