- The Sims police force is hilariously incompetent. I try to explore Detective. Is being a Sims cop bad? Why haven't I touched this Career in 5 years? The Sims 4 Get to Work includes 3 active careers that let you join the Sim on the job. This one focuses on fighting crime. I join as a cadet in The Sims police force and have some funny experiences as I make my way to Detective rank. Later, we'll look at the career rewards.

a annoying thing about the detective career. when you have seasons installed and its hot or cold the suspect wont wear the clothes listed in the notebook. since the notebook always describes the regular outfit.
i once watched a suspect jump into a pool fully clothed so i thought they were resistant to outfit changes. guess they forgot to update the code when seasons came out.
You can always ask the perp/suspect to change into their everyday clothes, but yeah, it's quite annoying to have to work around them wearing the incorrect outfit.
@@playalot8513 since it's a bug, i think it's not too cheaty to use mc dresser to change the npc's outfit. :) walking around and asking sims to do it is a waste of time.
@@SHARKY.9 It's easier to travel to the lot and simply ask the sim you think is the correct perp to show their everyday wear, that way you can be sure you are arresting the correct sim and so won't take a hit to your detectives career progression. You can use a dresser but it is quicker to use the social interaction in-game
@@playalot8513 it's 3-4 clicks with mcdresser on pause, so having my sim walk to the suspect and have an animated interaction isn't a quicker alternative (note that you have limited time for tasks, sometimes need to check multiple suspects at different spots on the lot).
The one time I played with the detective career I saw the ghost of Alexander goth at the crime scene as a witness. I assumed he died from natural causes, but I will say it was quite grim to see a ghost provide âvaluable information about the crimeâ with a body outline in the living room. Talk about a first hand eye witness!
This could actually be a pretty good gameplay for murder cases..
@@ruksharalam173 no it would be quiet boring just imagine
Alexander:"it was the butler in the living room with the candle stick"
Detective:"the butler you say,it's always the butler"
Rukshar Alam A bored and disappointed Sherlock Holmes goes straight home to experiment in the kitchen because âChristmasâ was ruined
Tbh I think the only reason why you aren't allowed to kill people in the Sims besides the age rating is because ghosts actually exist in this game so you'd be caught immediately
True story: the perps in the cells will grow old and die if you play detective long enough. I had it happen to my cop Sim as I was trying to get him promoted to chief. I don't know why they age so much faster than my household (sims outside the household seem to age very randomly). However, my guy walked in to work one day and all the perps he saw every day were elders. Because they are programmed to work out in the cell, they overexerted themselves and dropped dead, one by one, until they all died. Everyone in the precinct (including my Sim) had pretty good relationships with all of them because they'd all been there so long, so everyone (including my sim) was devastated at the deaths of several "friends" in one day. I collected all the tombstones to put in my town graveyard, and sure enough, when my sim went to work the next day, there were all new perps in the cells.
This is pretty hilarious
The same thing happened to me. My sim became besties with Arjun when he became a prisoner and after he died I hadnât moved the urns and forgot about them. My sim would bawl his eyes out periodically to mourn his best friend.
Heather Morgan. What! Really? That pretty much stinks...
*DEATH SENTENCE*
I wish NPCs were better at their jobs. Ever go to the hospital and the robot arms rip out your sim's heart or fight while delivering a baby?
Lol but i love that
Every time! đ
Also I hate that no one else ever cleans in the hospital- your high level surgeon ends up having to clean the floors still. Even with that, doctor is probably the most interesting career of the 3- scientist is better than detective but the prompts to harvest plants are bugged out by the Seasons gardening system
No one:
Sims 4 Doctors While Handling A Pregnant Sim: _Lemme just add some super glue in here_
This career always bugs out for me. If I have evidence from a previous crime it gets mixed up with my current case, so I'll have clues telling to arrest someone with blond and red hair. Or, a suspect who is a teen will age up, but the clue does not update. OR, my arrested suspect is a vampire who dies from sunlight because they wouldn't get their butts into the precinct, and DIED, effectively locking me about because there is no way to drop cases. The whole thing needs a revamp. Maybe let us pick our type of cases, like we can for acting gigs.
A revamp would be very welcome. I think it assigns a sim and describes them when you get the case assignment, and doesn't take away the evidence so it still works. I hated how little I needed traits to make those arrests.
This was funny. đ
âSelling hand sanitizer on eBayâ lol
"this is sims 911 what's your minor inconvenience?" killed me
that being said i took a break from sims four specifically because of this career; the suspect who fits your apb not actually being in the area until at least an in-game hour later (which is the opposite of what the game tells you is happening but ok), the fact that you can't queue up multiple data analyses, being unable to lock a suspect i arrested up and her consequently just...walking out of the station,
and my favorite...
The game forgetting I was still on duty because I went to the place where my APB suspect was and it didnt load properly, so I was physically incapable of arresting her .
Dweebicus Maximus Things like that happens a lot in sims. Which makes me mad that sims or so quirky
I wish they had set npcâs for the careers and such. Itâs weird for example Nancy Langrabb as a detective even though she is a criminal. Also for roommates with discover university they are just random generated townies that look a mess and have bad outfits. I hope they will fix this in the future games.
Yep, my general impression of the issue is that they should let playerds dress them with a rating system - some goofy outfits would make it purely for the laugh but most Sims would look fairly normal. A lot of townies are ok features wise just need better clothes, yet we have an army of people uploading outfits to the gallery and these two things don't interact together.
The damn eyeball ring, ITS EVERYWHERE.
I honestly want to add my own sims to university but they merge with existing ones living in the dorms. I don't want to play with all of them just want them to be roommates of mine.
The chief on my station died of old age right at work and it was a highlight of my sim's career
You are hilarious. I was literally crying with laughter through this. Just what I needed after another day of Zoom meetings!
Carl, you are a treasure. Your sims forum has been helpful to me countless times in the past zillion years, but I'm so glad you've ventured into the video realm, because it's given me a chance to delight in your personality, voice, and wonderful snark. Thank you!
My sim was sent to go on patrol...
...on a DESOLATE ISLAND IN SULANI!!
She had to swim to the mainland to actually meet any other sims to interact with.
lol that's hilariously bad!
Lol! I wish that would've happened to mine. My favorite stuff to put in videos is when the game is being very giving with absurd situations. Might be better for making a video than gameplay though.
I really wanted to enjoy Detective when it came out, but I just couldnât. I know the sims isnât a hyper realistic game, and I donât necessarily want it to be one, but with detective I was saddened to see just how cartoony it really was. When I played it didnât feel like my sim was really a detective, instead he was merely a caricature of one. I donât need him to be solving serious crimes like murder, something that doesnât fit into the sims family friendliness, but I wanted something beyond what we got. I think in general all sims 4 careers are like that to a degree, thereâs not much to them besides a title and some locked build items. You can have a sim thatâs an attorney but beyond rare pop ups I have no idea if heâs in court or not. And what sort of law does he specialise in? Prosecutor, defence? That sort of thing. Careers like Judge, Attorney, Detective, and some others that escape me should have some sort of wider impact on the game and they just donât. Instead theyâre just another thing your sim does. I donât want this to seem like I hate TS4, I really donât, but I just feel let down by careers in general.
Yeah personally I preferred the private detective career in Sims 3- I know some people didn't like the repeating storylines but at least every case wasn't some obscure non-crime. There's no drama. They made up diseases with actual symptoms you had to look for but couldn't make the clues make sense with certain kind of crimes that eventually became more serious
I agree, like Athletes are placed into one category which is honestly sad.
having a GTW career as a celebrity is playing a dangerous game. three patients walked out on my doctor sim and he almost didn't make gold that day because he wasted so much time autonomously "reacting in disgust" every five minutes.
omg i can't stop laughing. can you imagine going to the doctor really sick, and him being like "eww, get out you pleb"
The detective and doctor active careers are my two favorite careers in this game! Iâm sure itâs a lot of work but I hope at some point we get maybe one or two more.
I really found myself wishing we had more of them, with a few unique socials that have an impact. I like it when each Sim I make has their own play style, but you don't get that with most careers. Just skill grinding.
I like all the GtW (Go to Work) and WfH (Work from Home) careers in the game atm, because each of them gives me options on how I want to mold that character more than let's say a Chef or Space or whatever career does. Like I liked both the Style Influencer and Acting careers they added after City Living and Get to Work, but would love more (like imagine if you actually went to work with the Criminal career, and had to report to a mob boss, go to lots, commit crimes, etc. Or could "Work from Home" and be a freelance criminal)
@@Patches2212 Sounds like you will like the Basemental Gangs mod if you haven't tried it already.
I always make Summer Holiday a nurse!
@@Patches2212
Zerbu's Turbo Careers does that, but it requires you to set up and assign a career lot. It's also been buggy for me for a while, though I haven't tried it since the latest update. It's very much molded around the Get to Work experience.
As for freelance, that's doable with skills and clubs (if you have Get Together). Setting theft as a club activity enables it for people that don't have the klepto trait, for example. You could make an improv mob. (Mine meets at museums in broad daylight and has no shame.)
I find writer and painter are already more lucrative as freelance than their career counterparts because you can dedicate more time to crafting at higher levels and have more control over filling needs.
Can you cover the Outdoor Retreat in a video? I'd like to see the herbalism stuff and the hermit covered in more detail.
Culprits are always a brand new randomly generated sim. When I played I would pretty frequently check for newly generated ones to give them make overs (we all know they look notoriously busted) so since I was able to recognize every randomly generated sim currently in the world I would always know who the culprit was, based solely on the fact that it was a sim I hadn't seen before
LOL, I was JUST playing Sims 4 and had one of my Sims become a cop for a first time. I was trying to figure out some of the gameplay of this profession, and thought, I think I need to go on CZcams and search for a video that had more information on this. And low and behold, this video popped up in my feed. Thank goodness I subscribed to you! And thanks!
I wish they'd fix the rankings on the detective career. I have a sim that reached Commissioner at the job, made another household and made him work as a detective and the Sim that was supposed to be the Commissioner was working as a detective. This got me confused so I went to manage households and played that sim and her job is still Commissioner though I saw her working as a detective on my other sim. This sounds really confusing not gonna lie
That's really weird and annoying. I kind of assumed like with Sims 3 they'd keep their careers and ranks in them but I guess this explains why Nancy was a Detective... it doesn't pull from unemployed Sims and grabs them at random each time you start the career. :(
Detectives with the "Evil" trait get a happy moodlet from interogations.
I love the doctor career so much I wish I could turn off the time so I can just keep on working or start my own private practice.
CARL: "I'd get a picture of the evidence, but I am pretty sure it would just be that female cops ass"
ME: Dead đ đ đ
How this man doesn't have MILLIONS of followers, I will never know. He is funny AF and has me cracking up so much.
Also is no one going to mention that Carl's sim pulled a fish out of that woman's vajaja đđ
Blouse: A usually loose-fitting garment especially for women that covers the body from the neck to the waist (M-W).
I'm going to go with if it's not a t-shirt or something else I know the name of, it's a blouse and I know in general what they are. But I've never been in this situation, ever, so it probably won't come up again. For me, It's one of those things you might not realize you have no clue how to define until you've gotta think about it :P
@@CarlsSimGuides I literally LOL when you did the search. I hate that the game has so many classifications for clothes. đđđ
In my mind a blouse buttons up and is made of woven, not knitted, material. Like a men's dress shirt, but for a woman. Just my personal take
All I would do is go into Create A Sim, click the female option if my sim is a man, and then click on the Blouse icon and see what the game considers a blouse.
@@tornadogirl9099 spot on!
1) The actual way to solve the case and fill the work bar is to either look up in the database or process a piece of evidence though one case item at a time and then add it to the crime map. After it is added to the crime map it will ask to process a new piece of evidence until have enough for the APB. Then it will give the option of APB or process another piece of evidence or something else.
2) The quickest way to fill the description of the suspect is though the witness statements. The processing of the evidence is hit or miss.
3) Another great skill needed for cop is the charisma skill to raise the friend level quick. Plus all the angry people become easier to deal with when use three specific friendly interactions. They all stack 3 levels of happy right away to make them not angry. Does not work on very angry though. Those three are Brighten Day, Compliment Outfit, and Heartfelt Compliment.
4) The Observant trait from the rewards store is a great one to have as if makes friending up the person less required when get all the traits by just meeting them. It it is a walk up hi and arrest in most cases.
5) Befriending the co-workers works great before going to ask them about case theory too as if the relationship is low or career level is low to them then would get a negative to relationship with that person, however if just want to raise up the ranks of detective then this doesn't matter much. The main objective is filling the bar and best way to fill the is processing the criminals and solving cases.
6) Each case needs to be solved in two days each. If it takes longer then the game will start to give a new crime scene to explore, which each crime scene is different. The one thing holding back is how long you stay at the crime scene searching for evidence and so forth.
7) As go up in levels the search for clues increases the range or at least it appears to. The key is to search for clues in the whole house first one room at a time. The hidden clues are better changes to turn into actually evidence than the broken items all around. Yet when running out of time and need something to move away from the crime scene then the dusting of prints of the broken items will do. A neat sim will make you take longer at the crime scene. As they will be complaining about all the messes all around, which could be each room in some cases.
8) If want to can befriend criminals in the cell. Only do this if have time or just don't care much about the work bar.
9) This career becomes much more challenging in some cases when use the Wicked Whims Mod depending on settings. I have had the criminal being taken into the restroom to WooHoo before locking them back in the cell. The chief can and does take another co-worker into the restroom from time to time to WooHoo as well. Which could be a bit kind of hard when really want to talk to the chief.
10) When dealing with the Criminals in the cells just click on the one want to finger print, search, and mugshot and fire up the whole list in whatever order need it. Once the criminal is outside of the cell and going through the processing then click on the cell door and choose lock up and choose the criminal name. I have done it like this always since that first one went off for the fun in the restroom those 3min. earth time cost a bit of extra time to lock that one back up. Yet if this happens to you just enjoy the fact that there is no need to lock them back up and just go on to another task. Police work at its finest Sims style.
Dude, you could air short stories about corrupt cops with this! Stealing from homes while on the job was actually a real complaint about the cops in Baltimore(plus one guy randomly left his poop on the floor in someones house).
i never get tired of these videos. sims careers are so silly they never fail to make me laugh
you are so hilarious and witty please make more videos of you playing the game, I just love it!!
"Your gnome is missing, huh? Someone will be right over."
Your videos are not only very informative, but always extremely entertaining!
This was pretty funny thanks for the laughs. I enjoy Detective but of the three âGet to Workâ careers, it offers the least in terms of what your career developed skills can do for you âoff the clockâ.
Definitely - it's better than most careers as at least it offers some kind of gameplay, but no strategy or knowledge is really required, and it has really really lame rewards.
I like these. Don't feel bad about putting out shorter content. Your style of letsplay is unique and fun to watch. I feel our play styles are similar and I very rarely wish you'd done something differently. You're the best, keep it up!
This is the content I need during Covid-19 stay-at-home. đ
That is a good thing because I think right now it's what my brain is capable of doing, though I might be getting used to the whole thing. I'm a bit stir crazy but at least doing this makes things feel a bit more normal.
@@CarlsSimGuides Your videos make me want to play the game & that makes it fun during times like this. So thank you đ
Your cop is a klepto, and the chief is selling hand sanitizer on eBay. hehehe
I personally loved playing the scientist career in my Not So Berry challenge, but my favorite thing about Get To Work is running a retail store.
The commentary on this video has me watching it for a 3rd time đ
I did enjoy playing the active careers, but only the scientist career, because there is a lot happening in that career, police career is just the same thing until level 10 and the doctor career is super frustrating when you become a doctor and not a single sim is helping you.
I think my enjoyment was definitely boosted by the fact I was making a video and having fun writing a script from all the absurdity. It was probably pretty telling I made it to like level 4 before realizing that was about all, but if more careers had a bit more going on with them the game would be a lot more interesting.
Finally caught up with this -- your narration is pretty much my internal monologue when I play Sims these days :D Love it!
"The cost of damage must be in the dozens!" lol. Thank you for the never-ending help you give us all, and also the laughs!
Having played a Detective Sim for quite some time now, I can say -- no, you're not missing a DAMN THING. It is EASILY my least-favorite active career because there is SO LITTLE variety. (Doctor comes close, but at least there's more challenge there with trying to identify the illness -- could you apply your lovely snark to that career too?) I plan to play it through to the end with Eric, simply because I am fueled by massive amounts of spite when it comes to stuff like this (you should see me against boss monsters I'm underleveled for in Fallout 4), but I'm glad his alien boyfriend now lives with him so I have someone ELSE to follow when I don't want to go to work with him.
My biggest gripe with detective career is having so many load screens..Load to station...load to crime scene...load bk to station..load on patrol...lol
I hate the detective career and I never went far in it đ however, this video makes me want to try again !
I have the same problem, I watch Carl's vids then have to play them out!
That 'out of the way with you' killed me đ€Ł
this was an extremely funny video - honestly the cop and doctor jobs are sometimes hard to figure out at times.
That artist's recreation... had me in tears... and then I saw those sling back sandals on that townie with cargo shorts, and I lost it!!
You have such a great sense of humor! I was laughing throughout this video. You make everything seem seamless and natural. I know it's a lot of work, and I commend you for that. Thank you! Thumbs up!
you deserve a blue tick and a whole bunch of subscribers. I LOVE ALL OF UR VIDS. SPECIALLY THE GARDENING SKILL ONES
This is amazing. I appreciate the effort you put in. Thanks for making me laugh!
Your intonation of your voice here made me feel like every line was gonna rhyme, I'm kinda sad it didnt lol
Lol. This is a lot more amusing than most sims gameplay vids Iâve seen in the past. Keep up the good work!
Crazy good video!! I now want to play this one. I have avoided it until now! Ty!
Dude, I love your tutorials and your commentary. I ran across them when I searched for help with my Sims4 game and they help me destress about my Sims issues by laughing at you ripping the Sims a new one in your sarcastic way.
Omg I laughed out loud through this whole thing!! "Hello, sims 911 what's your mild inconvenience?"

This was a super good video, you have a lot of good jokes and the flow of story progression was great
Your humor is always the best I love these videos always
this was very entertaining! thank you. as an aside, i was relieved to see your criminals staring at the walls in their cells; mine recently started doing that, too, and i thought it was just me and that my game was broken.
This is a regular day at my agency.
This is hilarious. I like these kind of videos, you should do more.
Lol, this video was awesome! Too funnyđ
I watched this in 1.5x speed and it was even better than the usual. LOL. I love your videos.
I love your videos. This was hilarious. I especially liked when the suspect stood behind you and then finding a hammer on him.
This had me in stitches! đ
I wish we could use the detective/police career to arrest townies for wearing those hideous outfits.
I don't even bother going to a new crime scene if i still have evidences from the previous cases lol. Go on patrol and immediately go back to the station. It's a waste of time waiting around.
Yeah it's really fortunate we don't have a real justice system, none of these cases are making it through. The witnesses are all over the scene contaminating it and I can use someone else's fingerprints to convict you. I guess its no surprise I ended up making this such a goofy video..
Seriously Carl love your videos and your humor.
Thanks WiseSimmer!
I loved this video especially the funny parts.
CELEBRITY KLEPTOCOP HAHAH this was hilarious
So many quips! Love it. I haven't tried the detective career yet because the scientist had so many perks. Can't wait to check it out now.
Yeah, if it hadn't been 5 years I might not have had so much fun with the idea. I'd much rather be playing with something that has actual rewards. Detectives should've been able to order others around too, particularly when you get to higher ranks.
I laughed so hard throughout this video! Your commentary was hilarious!
The Sims arrest animation basically sums up what I thought arresting criminals was like IRL back when I wanted to be a police officer when grew up (this was about 15 years ago)
I laughed so hard while watching this. Great narrative! Funny stuff!
Thanks, funny video. Needed that.
I always find the Sims 4 P.D. confusing. You can literally kidnap another sim for food (as a vampire), trap them in your house, starve them to death or drown them, and the police are nowhere to be seen. But they are shown to arrest people and have a "working" jail, they just won't touch the sim you're playing even if they've murdered an entire neighbourhood.
Gotta love the sims.
Comedy on point!!!!!!!
Carl you are hilarious! đđđ€Ł Damn toddlers!
This makes me want to play as a detective! Very funny commentary đ€
Dude on my first patrol i was sent on an ampty island in sulani at least there was something on yours

I think detective career is the hardest to get promotion, because you often get tasks that slowing your promotion progress.
correct me if I was wrong
You have helped me more than anyone with game playđ
11:20 that scene perfectly summarizes everything đ
I played a cop and it wasn't long before I got desperate and just blamed some guy that may or may not have been guilty! I felt so guilty I made my Sim become a musician!
Love the video
âA pack of thug toddlersâ I new it that where behind it all
I really enjoyed this video đ itâs one of my favorite packs, although I agree it couldâve been done a lil better.
I'll confess I used a time cheat and he peed himself. On to the next shift. LMFAO
This is hilarious! It also makes me think maybe I should get this expansion. đ€
I used to really enjoy the interrogations when I first purchased the pack. I wish they did more stuff like that.
Yeah - those types of little systems can make the game fun. Even better if they interact with traits, like some Sims being really tough to crack because they're overconfident.
goodness that was damn entertaining! So funny!
definitely got a good laugh out of this.
The detective career was wasted on the sims 4 because there aren't any crimes to solve for regular npc cops...if any ever spawn.
If your sim was a Spellcaster and you have your mischief spells unlocked, you won't have much use for the kleptomaniac trait, in fact, the pickpocket/swipe object ability that you gain as a Batu'u vacationer/citizen will let you swipe objects without the need for the kleptomaniac trait too; But if you want to have all three of those possibilities together you could swipe anything in sight for all that you desiređ. Yeađ I have been playing Kleptomaniac/criminal sims a lot too. My game clue: using the the Batu'u swipe object would give you the better chance at swiping objects than the normal kleptomaniac trait interaction.
I was thinking the other day âI want to make my sim a copâ. This was great to watch (and made me want to cop more đ)
My cop sim who is a mermaid went on patrol on a secluded island and decided. Eh no crime. Let's swim. đčđč
