Can someone explain to me why Maria Khoreva is not in the middle of the barre, right under the portrait of Agrippina Vaganova? She is clearly the best in her class, and she was front and center for center work, so I don’t understand why she wasn’t in the middle of the barre...
The girl in the middle of barre is Maria Petukhova, who in my opinion is one of the best in the class, just like Khoreva. So for me it would make sense if either of the girls stand in the middle. Also, Petukhova is in front middle for center work, but in second group. Interesting thing I found, Khoreva was in both barre and centre middle during their 8th grade exam. That’s just my opinion, hope that helped!
In the center bar, from left to right is Maria Bulanova, Daria Ionova, Maria Petukhova, Maria Khoreva, Nuykina Anastasia. In the left bar, from left to right, I only know the first girl whose name is Bocharova Olesia. From the right bar, from left to right, the third girl's name is Lidya Kovalenko.
Joana Amoroso and Ania the Obsessed I guess the others are, in the right bar from left to right: Alice Otsuka, Biborka Lendvai, Lidya Kovalenko and Saya Okamoto. In the left bar, from left to right: Misaki Monma, a girl I don't know, Kanon Suzuki and Olesia Bocharova
@@erosirisgrey Hahahaha omg, well, talking about the girls that I mentioned, I follow Daria Ionova and Maria Khoreva on Instagram, and the others are their friends. They usually tag each other on their posts, so that's how I can identify some of them.
Can I ask, is turning away from barre to get to other side purely a vaganova/Russian thing in ballet? I do RAD classes in UK and we do one side and then turn towards the barre to do the other side. No turns during barre exercises either. It makes a beautiful transition, I'm only wondering why this doesn't happen in my own classes. Thank you.
pheebs_cats it depends on the method, the russian method and the cuban method both usually do both sides of the bar during the exercise so that it doesnt became too repetitive meanwhile royal ends the exercise when one side is done and then repeats the same thing for the other size. I don’t know about how the french method does it tho.
It doesn't happen in your own classes because RAD is designed to train hobbyists to understand the principles of ballet, but not to train them to become professionals. Hence, Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet are full of foreign dancers who trained in the Vaganova method.
I am a student of the Vaganova style and we do turns at the barre to practice for partnering. The barre stands in for a partner so you can practice the pressure and motions that one would typically use while partnering. They’re so much more difficult at the barre than in center!!! 😁 and turning away from the bar is purely stylistic as the exams are more like simple performances than class. I know people before me said pretty much the same thing, I just wanted to expand on doing pirouettes at the barre because I find it really fascinating!
@@mathildewesendonck7225 Re: audition for top theaters - from what I read on their forum (where parents' of kids write), while Mariinsky has an open audition for all Vaganova graduates who are interested, they also invite select students specifically, but tell that others can come if they want to. Whom they'll take is a different story, it's usually top students. This video is of the 7th year exam, not the 8th one. The 8th one is the "state exam" where the examination committee includes representatives of various theaters. I am not sure about Bolshoi policy towards Vaganova students or other theaters'. I read that a year ago, some girls accepted to Mikhailovsky though not Mariinsky didn't do great on the final exam - one had a "3", but she had an injury earlier in the year.
Yeah… every time I see videos from this academy, I admire all the girls’ talent, but I wonder if they’re healthy. I sincerely doubt if there’s a single one in this video that don’t have eating problems. And I’m not judging- ballet is so particular about body types. The smaller the better even if it means you’ll faint during practice.
In the beginning, she steps back behind the girls on the right, then at 0:16, she gets back, and is the third (visible) girl from the right, the one whose hands are bent at the elbows, the arms facing down and the hands upwards. She lifts her hands up at around 0:18. Also, at the central barre, she is the second from the right.
@Lina - I think she means that she didn't get hired by Mariinsky. She is dancing in Estonian National Ballet instead. The other 4 girls at the central barre - Bulanova, Ionova, Khoreva, and Nuikina are at Mariinsky.
jewelmarkess O thank you for explaining! In my opinion it is not a shame at All. She makes her own choices and the mariinsky isn't just What it was in the past.
@Lina - yes, and I read on a forum is that the reason might be that Mariinsky is very particular about body shape - I am no expert, so I don't see what's wrong with Petukhova's, but they saw it. But... they also say on the same forum that Estonian National Ballet is the best theater in Estonia, an European country, and the salary and conditions there are better. Maria Khoreva was already outstanding; her technical control, lines and grace made her special even back then.

Mrs Kovaleva is the one of the greatest ballet teachers in the world.
At 7:24 Maria does 3 spins and stops perfectly to the music!
7:23 maria khoreva is so controlled!!
Kaylie xoxo the one does three rather than two spins
You’re right! She’s the only one who controlled that ending!

I want to ask between Maria Petukhova , Maria Khoreva and Maria Bulanova who is better?thank you
Lauren Tam i think khoreva is the best, there is just something special i love about her
Thx i also think like u but i just don't understand she is the best but why she is not in the center when she do her barre work?
I think it may have to do with height? But personally I think petukhova (center girl) is stronger in barre but khoreva is stronger in center work
Maria simply had a perfect technique; head, arms, torso, legs, everything is perfectly where should be when should be and moving how should be.
Maria khoreva.
obviamente si me regalan otra vida, seria lo primero que haria, ballet.

No, but I would guess full marks since she was outstanding.
I‘m quite sure she got a 5 (like A grade) . I‘ve heard that you need to have top grades to even audition for the big companies in Russia
It must've been a 5 as she finished with the "red" diploma i.e. all 5th in all subjects.
