I honesty think Conor was a bit lucky with this ko tbh because he didn't load up for the punch and it looked more defensive. Great defensive control imo but Aldo messed up and left himself vulnerable. What Conor did to Alvarez though was completely different. Conor put on a clinic.

I was just thinking the same, also...
After watching it again, what getting me is the power vs control and discipline vs rage example that played out.
That 1 strike that Aldo hit was ALL OUT and even caused Conor to bleed. Just a little lower and it could have been a double KO. If Conor missed it could have been the start of game over for him, but when Aldo made the move, discipline and control prevailed.
Conor didn’t bleed?

And if you look close, he actually cut Connor with that punch. Two beasts!
There’s a reason the ufc never gave Aldo a rematch, and then let Izzy, GSP and every other champ get one. Connor is the only double champ to never defend any of his belts. Connor has never defended a belt and only ever fought for money once the UFC helped make Connor a cash cow. Connor has the gift of gab, uses it wisely and got to Aldo emotions. The UFC hand picked fights for the guy until it was un avoidable in Khabib, Dustin and anyone else he now has to fight going forward. I don’t think we see him fight again.

This is such a beautiful knockout, which makes it even more of a shame that we never really saw McGregor fight like this after he won the two belts. He's been so static in his recent fights - next to no kicks and not managing distance or creating angles. I feel like the "true" McGregor never really lost and I would love to see him again, but it seems he's lost the magic.
I call it the Ronda effect at this point
Fighter gets famous, Fighter gets deals from places like Hollywood or some brand, Fighter focuses more on self branding over fighting, Fighter still loves fighting, fighter comes back, fighter loses for they are struggling to manage peek performance and buisness at the same time. Fighter realizes its not possible to do both, fighter retires.
You see this happen so many times in combat sports.
Which, now that you've put it that way, is completely fair enough from the fighter's perspective because you have to leave fighting at some point and it is such a dangerous sport.
It just sucks for us! And clearly when you look at some of Ronda's interviews, it can suck for them, too

Just a bunch of “hate him or love him” and “say what you want about Conor” comments 😂
@@Kam-hu8bp lol, this is nothing. Twitter Conor fans are on another level, it's a bit psychotic
@@lecookie007 I aggre, though you gotta admit he has some dedicated haters as well
Prime McGregor. Will never see another one like him.
@SOUL BYTHEPOUND If he's a clown, then you're a whole circus.
@Dana'Conors Baby' White what he did and how he did it is basically impossible to replicate
I remember I reached down for a peanut M&M in my pocket and when I looked up the fight was over
Almost a double ko! Just a split second faster by Conor, great fight, great career from both fighters.
The King of Rio should have absolutely gotten a rematch after that.
Apparently he was offered one but declined
@@SuperBarrym1 they offered it on short notice when rda broke his foot.
It was offered to him and he declined it. McGregor moved on to bigger and better things, like winning another belt and making over $100m in one night against Mayweather.
Even tho Aldo was the FW GOAT, I don't think anyone who gets starched in 13 seconds should get an immediate rematch.
@F A close fight warrants a rematch, sure. But there is no reason why a 5 round war and a 13 second KO should both warrant rematches. The UFC devolved into this immediate rematch shit the last few years and it isnt logical in any way.
I miss Prime Conor what a legend🔥
Here after the Suga knockout, Conor did it way better
0:41 the referee ankled aldo in the face at the end there
This was a big conspiracy back in 2015 😂 please don’t start this again 🤣
Everyone made slow motion clips claiming Referee John McCarthy knocked Aldo out with a knee to the face 💀
That was the first and LAST ppv I ever purchased! Lol
What a fight iq he had bk then. And Aldo- still winning against quality opponents!👍
OHHHHH HE SLEPT HIM “ 😂😂 so legendary, was so happy for Conor and so sad for Jose in this moment
Who s here after Doumbe Zebo ?
The amount of people in the arena getting a beer or taking a piss while this happened! 😅😭😳
Just watched the absolute war that was the second Aldo/Mendes fight, so I had to come here to really understand how big of a deal this KO was. Aldo was incredible during his reign, and Conor made it look so easy.
