Anselm Kiefer is the ONLY contemporary artist who is able to compete with the Old Masters, and sometimes even rival them. This looks like an amazing cycle and I wish I could have witnessed it in person

As for fire imagery, probably referencing this: "The Chamber of the Scrutinio. This immense room is in the wing of the Doge’s Palace built between the 1520s and 1540s. After the construction of Sansovino’s Library this room was used solely for elections, starting with the most important, that of the Doge. On December 20, 1577, a devastating fire swept through the Doge's palace, destroying much of the southern part of the building. The present decorations date from between 1578 and 1615, after the 1577 fire."
