- Meet Summer, our cute baby lamb. We are taking care of her after her mother (Sheila the Sheep) died. In the beginning she didn't like us and would get angry when we got close to her, hence the foot stomping.

Stomping of the feet generally indicate anxiety or stress. Most likely because it is confined inside the cage, away from the other sheep. Sheep are extremely social animals, meaning that it is crucial for them to be with their flock.
"I am a force of nature beyond your comprehension human, hear me as my thundering hooves announce my rage!" The lamb probably.

We don't reinterpret, it seem cute to us, at least in animals like this one, but that doesn't mean we don't know what it really means or why the animal is doing it
The lamb is neither scared nor frustrated. She lost her mum and does not want humans to take her place. It’s her way of saying “no”. They are obviously encouraging her to express herself so that she accepts the reality that humans are the replacement. She would likely not accept a foster sheep mom either, at least not initially. I like this lambs’s indignance. Call it what it is rather than mislabeling and misunderstanding.

What I find interesting is this is NOT the behavior of a lamb seeking out her mother, which constitutes infinitely loud bleating, while the baby looks around in a confused stupor, but more so that it’s demanding something/trying to communicate, and that it perhaps has already imprinted on a human(similar to what you said). Just a guesstimate.
@@cb5117 Have you listened to or read Temple Grandin? She’s a huge promoter of the theory that animals use sensations to comprehend and conceptualize their world. ALL of their sensory perceptions are involved. And when they communicate, they do so with imagery. Humans use a circuitous route. We sense, we think, we interpret and then we speak. If we are afraid, we act instinctively or freeze. William James, yes, the philosopher and psychologist from the 1800s studied human animals 😉. I think his sequencing of thought and feeling and so on has not been refuted. Temple is on the autistic spectrum and has always seen images. I find that animals communicate in images I can understand much better than most humans seem to grapple. I’m mathematical and I see patterns. I’m very verbal (hah!) tactile, auditory, and visual. So when an animal is “saying” something to a human, it’s almost like I’m trying to communicate it myself to that human! It’s a lot of fun and it’s heart warming. For a while I did some animal communication work but when I realized that I couldn’t really teach much of it to humans, I went back to communicating with animals on my own. Often I’ll say something out loud to random humans that I intuit that an animal is wanting to communicate. What floors people is when the animal seems to actually participate in what I’m interpreting as to what they want or what they did or how they might maneuver at that moment. I do this mostly with wild animals, most of whom I’ve never seen before. I’m not very good with birds but everything on land and in the sea is basically within the domain I inhabit, both with the wild creatures and our domesticate companions. ✌️ 🥂

Was in my back yard wild deer in the wood line, I stood still as a statue and the deer startrd staring and did this same thing to me! The deer also let out a wierd hiss noise. I feel like the deer stomped at me to see if I COULD move. Like it was wondering if I was an object or a potential threat. 😂
