  • With the passing of the last veteran of the battle of Hong Kong, there will be no more living witness to this little-known chapter in the history of this British colonial outpost during WWII. Monkey Hill isn't just a place where our furry lil friends live, it makes history too.

A beautiful memorial to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who gave their lives in the war in Hong Kong. This Canadian 🇨🇦🍁 says thank you Mr. AM. An interesting history lesson that I never heard much about in school. ❤

Thank you for this Arroz. I am proud inrigeneous Canadian.🇨🇦🇨🇦 My father's Indigenous uncles and cousins fought in the battlefields of Europe and some buried there. My mother's parents were at Canadian headquarters and my grandmother was a Wren. My grandfather stayed army ofr 36 years. My father joined and was 26 years. I am very proud of our military background.
And yet, with all the history and knowledge i learned of Canada's war contrivution, i had not learned of Canada's contributionin Hong Kong. Thank you for teaching it to me.
As sad as i was to see the Maple Leaf on the headstones as it meant a young Canadian did not make it home, there was also pride in kn9wing we were there.
As a Canadian, i want to thank the people of Hong Kong in looking after the cemetary and keeping the names and soldiers in their memory. Thank you.

It’s funny as I am older I enjoy learning so much more history than I ever did. Thank you dear friend.

Same. I never liked history at all growing up. I think it's because now we are seeing things that interest us instead of what we had to learn in school. Or maybe bc we feel closer to our roots the older we get. Maybe both. I just wanted to add this to your comment bc you def aren't alone

@@shellyhudson1631 I think you are 100% right, I mean when I watch documentaries it’s usually on things I choose to watch but yet I am glad that we were forced to learn things at a younger age even if I didn’t like it. Ha ha!

Fascinating video tonight A.M.! Learned about a slice of history, that I'd never knew about. It was great to see some of your old videos, where Skull Head was still alive. He was a great alpha male. Won't be another one like him again! Thank you A.M.! Everyone stay safe & take care. Catch me later!

Thanks, A.M. for a very interesting tribute to the fallen soldiers. You are very talented and knowledgeable and make your videos so interesting with your narration and music choices. I'm so glad i found your channel. I was fascinated by the tunnels/trenches and was in awe as the video at the cemetery swept over the top of a building. Do you have a drone? It was a very well-kept cemetery.

I notice that Bossy's troop is generally pretty lenient with kids getting fed before some adults, at least when Grandee was still around. You can see it at around the 21:00 minute mark, when the feeder feeds Grandee first but then starts passing it out to Ridgy and Stacy's kids before everyone else, and they aren't even high-rank families.

Mr Fredette was a legend among Canadians living in HK. I heard about him from a fellow Canadian within a couple weeks of arriving. Great story

Do you know the story about the fantastic Sergeant Gander? Being very interested in history the story about him is one of the heart warming ones that has been stuck in my mind for a very long time. Unfortunately he was one of the Canadians who died in the battle Hong Kong.

@@ML_SE no, don’t know the story. Would love to hear about it. I think the reason Mr Fredette was known is because how long he lived.
