As an engineer I find it amusing that a power tool manufacturer makes a more user friendly coffee machine than some actual coffee companies.
100% engineers had input into this and they are the most practicle people along side the trades
I mean it makes sense, they don’t really care about the looks of things, it just hast to do exactly what it is supposed to
Its makita, you know its gonna be built Solid af😂
I find working in IT, having worked a trade, that there are often cross trade ideas that would make sense to implement but the ideas never get shared because there are so few crossovers between certain sectors.
I mean....it has to survive in tough conditions, and has to be something that works in a crazy environment. The LAST thing you want when stressed on the job rushing to finish, is an overly complex coffee machine!
This is certainly rather curiously interesting! My Dad is a contractor, but doesn't drink coffee. If I was making a 6 figure income, I'd LOVE to get it for my Dad as a GREAT Gag Gift!
This probably has been said already, but IIRC, the makita coffee machine was an april fools joke on their social media, which lead to so many searches and inquiries about it that they then decided to actually make one.
I love that
Well done then, because it’s great
Accidental marketing
That was a rumor, but the reality is that the original coffeemaker they made was already out in Japan before it was teased in the u.s. this one is the second edition, the first was 18v or 110/120v and was a little more basic.
whoa thats cool
Keeping in mind that the people who would buy that most likely have 6 or 7 of those batteries just lying around, I am still quite disappointed that Makita didnt include one as well as the option to plug it in. Imagine using your coffee maker not only to make coffee, but also to charge your drill batteries. Every coffee drinking worker's dream.
If it had an option to use it with the battery or plug in and charge a battery that would be perfect for a automotive shop. You could have this on top of your tool box and use it as a charger for your tools and make some coffee whenever you need it
maybe you could write a feedback to them
A machine that gets really hot receiving and then warming liquid seems like the absolute worst place to charge batteries
A dual charger. For the tool and the tool man (or woman).
each battery at full charge should give an hour or two of ugga duggas, and most rtadespeople probably want to stop for a coffee every few hours, so a small board to switch between battery charging, mains powered coffee maker and the cordless mode would be super handy- remember to change/recharge batteries when getting a coffee, and still have the portability
It's pretty hilarious though that Makita makes a coffee machine that still follows their design language haha, I would for sure get this for someone that has a huge collection of Makita tools
huh. might get this for my sister who's a welder, she could use a machine the same brand name as her tools to flex on her coworkers
she'll get laughed at *from a welder
@@MrDawson777Paintball Until they smell the coffee and they have to skulk away with only their rod in their hand.
@@MrDawson777Paintball man machinists and welders love coffee.
Now, if they were at the standard facility she absolutely would get laughed at. But if they had to go on a specific on site job, where there wasn't a confirmed coffee machine, she would be praised.
My friend is a welder, so like, I could always talk with him about it with the company he works at.
@@DeathProductions200 right? Imagine just having a coffee machine on your site that you can take everywhere
@@actualperson1971 yeah. To have that caffeine any time is important to them
As an electrician this is actually a really helpful review. I always roll out of bed with barely enough time to make coffee, but we take breaks in our cars and I’ve got tons of drill batteries with me, so this is the perfect product for me. Plus you’re right it’s so cute😤💚
It uses drill batteries!? Omg that's fucking brilliant.
@@CharChar2121 yeah, and pretty much everything else batteries. Most tool companies made it so their batteries fit on everything from lawnmowers and coffee machines to multicutters and drills
@@CharChar2121 Makita is known for having a massive lineup that accepts their 18v batteries. Need more power for a tool? They add two batteries so you don't have to change systems.
@@CharChar2121 Yes Makita is amazing in that territory! All of their things use the same batteries! You have the same batteries for you powertools, your coffemachine, they offer a pretty good portable radio/bluetooth speaker, that can be used as a powerbank as well, which uses the same batteries, and they have a bunch of other stuff.
I have half a dozen 5 amp hour batteries for my drills, routers, etc. This would definitely work for me.
A bit of information on that other coffee holder: it's made for *coffee PADS* (as in *"Senseo"* style pads) so you don't even have to measure the coffee (at least with the model sold around here)
Just throw in a pad made for Senseo machines and push the button. Here in Europe/Germany those are kinda everywhere (I think the closest comparison in the US would be Keurig ?)
How do I know? I was looking into that machine to use it specifically with *coffee pads* at work... aaand stumbled over your video while searching for this machine XD
Pro tip, that battery is the same as the one you get in any of the cordless Makita tools (saws, drills, etc.). So you'd already have the batteries on hand in that case.
"Nobody asked for this..."
My boyfriend is a carpenter, all of his tools are Makita, so yeah... somebody (me) would actually ask for a video like this, so I know if he's right in wanting this machine or if it just a waste of money ;)
@@hhjhj393 To be fair, if you only have one brand for a tool, (for power tools at least) you don't have to worry about compatibility issues such as batteries being diffrent.
My dad works by himself very often on a building site that may not have mains power, as he works as a bricklayer.
He has all Makita tools, so this may actually be a perfect christmas present for this year!
Did you do it? Did he like it??
@@barefootalien replying bc i need updates
As a coffee lover and Makita tool owner, with lots of batteries sitting around, I was so pumped when I saw this!
I can only imagine the tools engineer taking this shitpost to his boss and saying "The possibilities are endless! You can leave the house with it!" and the boss saying "I love it. Let's build it!". Coming to work and having this work-order in your queue as a tools engineer would be a lot of fun though. As a software engineer I always love building off the wall ideas.
My guess was 40 beans so I was a bit off.
Makita Designers: Now our target market is rough and tumble use so above all it's gotta look mean.
Morgan: I love this it's so cute!
makita doesnt make mean tools. they make elegant tools. milwaukee makes mean tools
My boyfriend is an electrician and has loads of makita batteries, this would be perfect for him. great review
This makes the most sense for an electrician, as the power is often cut off while they are working.
@@UrbanPanic and they travel around from place to place so you would want that mobility
@@emmaengland2726 Thats the target customer. buying the battery just for the coffee pot is admirable but not ideal
It’s much easier to go to the store and buy a cup of coffee for $1.5
@@moemcgalfend3255 have you ever been to a construction site?
Wow, being able to walk with your coffee device while it's brewing is kind of groundbreaking stuff
As much as I love Makita products as a Weekend Warrior / DIYer, I cannot think of a single instance where this thing would be useful outside of being a trucker. When I do mud runs, or I'm on the road a good quality thermos suffices. My area is prone to power outages in a storm but I have a back up generator and a propane grill and camp stove. I go on vacation I bring my pour over and an insulated mug. I go camping I bring a camp stove and a percolator. At home I have my Instapod kurig knock off or french press and mokka pot if I'm feeling fancy.
I live in hurricane-prone Florida, and another use for this coffee pot could be power outages. Sometimes it's not always convenient to run generators just for coffee, so if someone has tool batteries on hand that they can charge for storm preparation, this could be really handy!
Very true, I'm from the gulf coast and this would be great for after storms when you're working on sites that don't have power and nothing is open.
That’s a good point.m. I think an electric kettle would be an even better idea… I wonder do they do them, (even though I generally use Aldi or Ryobi tools)
@@maireadnic8280 If you just don't load coffee into the filter you'd get a cup of hot water that way...
@@Lakrimoz fair point, but again I’d question the value of the volume of water that we’d get. If one was solo, and only wanted small amounts - and wasnt a black tea drinker- then I’d definitely agree.
But I’d argue a standard 1.5ish electric kettle would be more useful, as you could heat up enough to make hot drinks/reconstituted meals (ramen) for more than one person, as well as washing dishes, basin bathing etc.
why not use a butane stove and kettle tho? MUCH cheaper
This is such a strange product. I don't really see it in use at a construction site, just because it only produces enough for one person, and I can't imagine the crap that one person would take for bringing their special little coffee maker to make their special little coffee lol. I, however, can see this would be something that would feel at home in a garage where you may have a lot of Makita tools already. Or even something you'd take with you in your work truck. Actually, thinking now, this looks like it wouldn't be too difficult to hack into specifically in-car brewing system.... Ooh, or even something for truckers. You're on the road a lot, you could probably recharge one of those batteries while driving pretty easily....
Right, on the road this would make sense. On most construction sites you also have electrical power available most of the time (okay, maybe not in all places of the site, but then again you probably won't make coffee while working on a roof e.g.)
I agree, this really would be useless on a building site, but would be a nice thing for the home garage/shed or as you say, in a truck. 240ml max is already a moderately small mug, and the recommendation of 160ml feels stupidly small, like an old-fashioned teacup size.
Thinking about cleanup - I wonder if an aeropress filter would be a good idea as a liner to make it easier for cleaning? Esp if one wants to brew more than one cup in a day
oh, this would be Perfect for truck drivers. hm...
On the other hand if I'm out in the middle of nowhere working on a repeater site on the top of a mountain, this makes more sense.
@@christopherpuleo True, but if I was in a remote location I'd just use a gasoline or LPG camping stove
Me: *Sees mug on box* “That’s kind of a neat mug it’d be cool to have it and use”
Her: “We get a mug too”
Me: Yes!
Glad that Morgan took the time to try this, I was considering it cause of the fact that it's a portable coffee maker, I've seen it before when it was being released to the public.
I work at Home Depot and we were dying laughing when we got these in. Still haven’t sold one yet and at my store we’ve got like 40 of them just sitting in the overhead for like a year now.
I love the design, I'd love to have one just for laughs
*please tell me when they are on sale it's so awesome*
commenting for notifications of sales :P
You know. Im a java head and have a lot of tools.....this might be perfect. Going to go look and see how much they are
They gonna mark them down?
I think I need this for camp, lol.
I imagine this being aimed at the sole contractor, that's already a heavy user of devices within the 18v Makita ecosystem and likes a hot brew from the back of the van / truck. It looks like it'd be a pretty solid way to make a brew without the hassle / precision of V60 or Aeropress while between or on jobs. When I worked as a labourer while in college, the first thing my boss taught me was never assume you wanna drink the coffee your client's made you...
I feel like buying one of these for my construction worker friend is like the equivalent of buying someone a gamer chair.
9:02 - The handle being the cutest thing ever seen in my life. I have seen many little, smiling children, tiny kittens and of course Baby Yoda. But I cannot find any fault with this claim.
"It's this amorphous blue..." **a blue-grey cat appears** "You summoned me?"
Muttering to myself: I'd guess about... 53 beans
Morgan: we have exactly 53 beans
Me: *jubilant screaming*
I'll be riding this high for months. Nobody will ever believe me.
I said 59!
im in the same boat aaahhhhh GO US XD
i said 50 and when she said 53 i was like 'i was three off!?' XD
I guessed 57
I did the exact same thing!!! 53!!!
I don’t drink coffee and haven’t had the itch to. But this persons energy and personality makes me want to try it. You are so bubbly and cute, keep making fun and entertaining videos!
We have this in our response truck at work! We already had the batteries anyway lol. Works like a champ for us (we use the pod adapter- less mess)
Now you need to get a makita drill and impact driver as those two things make household projects a breeze and you already have 120$ of batteries. I would even suggest an impact wrench that you take on road trips (and take the coffee maker too) as it will make changing tires super easy if you have to
And the lawnmower, string trimmer, and hedge clippers. All use that same battery (I think the lawnmower might require 2).
Agree, makita power tools are just *that* good, very expensive but worth every penny
haha I really like this review. When I looked for a new power drill, my friends told me to compare the ecosystems of different brands. Being german engineers/physical scientists, they made clear that this is no decision taken lightly. So I discoverd battery powered heated jackets, wheelbarrows, a thing that knots steel bars together, a giant sword that cuts insulation. Team Makita won against Bosch blue because of the coffee machine (but I still just own the drill)
i love this because i do this shit all the time, consider everything and utilize nothing lol
i was looking to buy into a tool ecosystem. my father used makita from the 90s on as a professional mechanic. he told me to just go makita for the price. after months of shopping and worrying about details, i have makita tools.
This is life changing, I never would have thought battery powered coffee makers were a thing. I can drink coffee any where now! I can become the coffee!
I love the honesty! @7:34 you measured how many grams a milliliter of water weighs. The ratio is 1=1. Awesome that you left this part in the final video. Please keep converting metric units, the system is full of pleasant surprises compared to the imperial system!
I love that they probably design this to look like a manly tool and she keeps saying how cute it is. F*ck those masculine standards, that coffee machine is adorable!
given this is Makita and not like a Milwaukee, I'm not too surprised she keeps calling it cute lol
@@MrVLeAsian if Milwaukee made a coffee machine, it would fill a 12 cup pot and have a built in grinder.
OMG MASCULINITY IS SOOOOOO EVILLLL HELP ME I’M SCARED
Whoever said that masculinity can't be cute as well as dependable?
I don't think any coffee maker that Ive ever seen, has never been very masculine. Its a machine that makes coffee. Shit could be pink and dudes will still use it because it makes coffee.
Box sound.
Cat: I'm must inspect my new home
Actually been thinking about buying a similar machine from Hitachi, makes sense as a roofer. You always have diffrent construction sites you spend the day at and not all construction sites provide you with a power outlet so having this thing run by the batteries we already have for our power tools makes it quite convenient
Btw, I am so glad you are using proper units... every time you use grams or millilitres, you make watching your video much easier cause I can actually know how much stuff you are actually talking about
btw, is 10 ounces roughly 300ml?
I was imagining getting this for emergency coffee making during a storm when the power goes out. We all have nightmares about the power going out for awhile and being without coffee for too long!
This is something I had not considered but you are totally right!
Good idea. Makita also makes lamps and flash lights for those types of batteries, as well as radios and even a battery operated cooler so you could use lots of different things with the same batteries in a power out.
or you could use mini gas stove and a kettle lol
or camping!
Have a little gas-stove from the camping department ready. Good to heat up water or cans. To pure boiling water over coffee, you don't need any other device.
I didn't know I needed it, but a MorganDrinksCoffee + AvE collab is something I need.
That would be damn funny if the angry pixies didn't escape when he took the battery powered sazall to it to open the box. On the other hand that could have come in handy for opening the battery packaging. Morgan needs a sazall. Another use for her expensive battery
We need to know if it makes skookum coffee.
@@raccoonking7566 AVE reviewed one a few years ago. She chooches but ain’t to fast
This is such a great product for anyone using Makita batteries. And we are many! Though as an amateur with only a small tool shed, I believe I will keep using my Aeropress but I can truelly imagine this being useful for so many people out in the field. Great product and great review!
It's for a specific situation. It's not gourmet coffee, but that's not what you expect at a jobsite, as a trucker, a park employee, or anyone who spends time in remote or generally power-less situations. A French press is glass and it will break if you pour hot water in it when it's cold or if you are going down a 4x4 trail. This is built with no frills it's just coffee without an outlet or fire.
Hai! Assuming your haven’t already closed youtube yet, and I haven’t watched the whole video BUT I just wanna remind you that your videos are great, you are an amazing person and you make lots of people happy so um dont forget that, anyways drink some water and smile! Xx -m

Dang, I would kill for one of those during a traffic jam.
After seeing Morgans silent shorts for months and months now, this is the first time I've heard her voice and it's exactly how cute I imagined! Glad your CZcams popularity is taking off :)
The excitement about the handles is adorable!
Also, I'm bingeing your videos, and I gotta say... for all the coffee community's pooh-poohing on scoops, you sure seem to love using scoops! xD
I love the mental image of a big muscular dude on a construction site carefully lifting up his tiny coffee holder by the cute little handle
Gingerly with 2 fingers! :)
Awesome vid! Really appreciated the sort of double review of both the intended use and audience and also as a coffee enthusiast. As another PNW native, my brain also went right to camping as an alt use. 😅
I'm getting one. I love coffee and have tons of Makita tools and batteries in my shop so the cost is not prohibitive and it's super portable. Also don't buy just the battery. You can buy a drill or some other type of Makita tool and it will come with a battery ( or two) for just a little more money and you have some handy tools to keep around the house. I love our Makita dust buster vacuum.
I’ve had one of these in the red Japan only color for about 2 years now and yes it makes an awesome cup of joe. The only thing that’s gone wrong with it over the years is the little mesh cup that holds the coffee grounds. The mesh is imbedded into the plastic cup and from being heated up so many times the mesh has risen to the surface and I can tell at some point it’s going to start falling off. Still works great tho two years in. Another complaint is this thing uses way more battery power than it says. It says a 6ah battery can make about 6 cups of coffee, that’s a lie. My brand new 6ah battery makes about 2 cups, sometimes only 1 and a half before it dies
"That is Fahrenheit, not Celsius"
Yeah, there did seem to be still liquid in the cup.
XD
As a non-coffee drinker, I was curious why CZcams would recommend this. Turned out to be the best click of the day.
3:01 Yes. The CXT is the 12v and is used by the compact/light duty line. The LXT is the 18v more commercial use tool and was for a long time Makitas most powerful line but they've just introduced the 40v XGT line.
I don’t even drink coffee but had a lot of fun watching your video, your enthusiasm is infectious.
Imagine getting into the Makita tool platform for the coffee maker :D
I use Makita tools, they're great and they're known for having a battery tool for literally everything. Not sure I'd ever get the coffee maker though lol
I wonder how many cups' worth of charge is stored in that massive battery. It looks like Makita makes a smaller battery and charger that's $70 (or $40 for just the battery) and which is what's used for many of their smaller tools, and it's also compatible with the coffee maker.
The usual craftsman owns 3-4 of these batteries and they keep them charged. They most often don't care.
@@holger_p That has surprisingly little to do with the question raised by my comment.
@@fluffycritter well it says your $70 or $40 is unimportant, if you already own the batteries, and if you always have a stack of them for all your tools, you don't care that much, for how long they might operate.
But to answer your question, the manual said 3 cups. This sounds conclusive since producing heat is the most battery consuming you can imagine.
I had the original version of the makita coffee maker that was 18v or 110/120v and loved it! I used it on job sites for coffee and cup o'noodles for years before it finally died after one too many drops on to a concrete floor. I haven't bought this one yet, because I don't like that they dropped the option to plug it in like the first version.
My husband is a steel worker and often has to use the majority of his break to walk to the opposite side of a very large factory to get coffee from the break room. This would be perfect for him when he needs to take a break from his welding and have a coffee!
I love your approach in coffee videos so much. I like how you were completely aware of the machine's limitations but you loved it for what it was and the novelty of it HAHAHA best coffee youtuber for me hands down
Was hoping you'd see how many cups of coffee you could brew with that on a single charge of the battery.
If you're on a construction site, you could just grab the battery off the nearest Makita drill and make your coffee.
Probably only 2 or 3. Boiling water needs a LOT of energy. Which makes this machine not very practical if a.) you want to make coffee for more than only 1-2 people or b.) you want to take this machine with you somewhere where you do not have a chance to recharge the battery (then you'd need like ten charged batteries just to get through all the coffee you want in one work day for several people).
Yes! No one asked for it and yet I can confidently say, WE ALL are here for it! 10/10
This would be perfect for camping, both my brothers have tons of those battery’s for their tools around too
Oh god I thought the makita coffe machine was a fake. This is amazing
This would be perfect for when you're car camping!
My first thought! Especially if you already have Makita tools with compatible batteries.
My cat loves watching these videos. He hears Morgan's voice and come running from wherever he's busy destroying things.
I love the fact that the machine itself can be moved from one place to another as you're working. That handle is very convenient. I may get one for my dad-in-law for Christmas. He's a carpenter and an avid coffee drinker.
Ok, it's a proper power tool review. "Here's a manual. We don't need this". "oh. I guess we needed that manual".
But they didn't do the AvE thing and cut the box open with an absolutely overkill tool, like a mini chainsaw or milling machine
I mean i'd argue opening boxes was about the only viable use for that mini-chainsaw, but yeah, I haven't watched much of his content in the last year or so, due to the weird covid rants.
Today in "Morgan does poetry": "Allow me to read you the instructions, according to the instructions"
After watching the whole video I’m simply loving it. Some teachers departments are wholes or closets and this machines will fit. And, we, teachers, are very picky with our choices. And by the way, the are not many sockets available.
Funny enough, the southern rock-climbing community I'm a part of tends to use the battery-powered Makita fans while climbing out at the crag. This would actually be a perfect pairing for that since they definitely already have batteries for the fans.
I only read the title and I'm already considering to buy it 😭

Those batteries wouldn't just be used by people on construction sites, per se. They're pretty standard for people who have power tools, which is lots of homeowners who have to do their own maintenance.
And since they already have those, the machine could be something for an average homeowner to use on a trip or something.
This might be a fun solution for people that love coffee outside and ride cargo bikes. You'd be the talk of the town. One of my friends brings a whole percolator and burner for it so this would not even be a stretch. Plus he has the Makita batteries already. HMMM!
very important to the cuteness factor of the machine is that you can change the sound that makita battery chargers make so they play a little song instead of just beeping

This should definitely be brought on the Italy trip
Oh, my. I've been wanting a good review of this product for years.
I grew up with a construction worker for a dad who loved his Makita drill. If this coffee maker is built anything like their tools, it will probably outlast all of us.
I had to pause the video to comment. I heard once that Beethoven had taken the time to count coffee beans every morning! He decided 60 beans was optimal for 1 cup of coffee. What a character!
When I saw this on Amazon, I thought you or James Hoffman would review this at some point!
I'd love a return of "beardy" James on a construction site testing this thing. lol.
James Hoffmann is so annoying. I watch like 1 minute of his videos and get instantly mad. That lass here is way better. I dont even know why im watching her videos anyways. I only drink instant coffee

I know you kept framing the target market as construction workers, but I will remind you that Makita has a line of battery powered lawn equipment. If one is attempting to reduce their carbon footprint, then Makita might be a brand of choice for the home owner. The battery for that equipment is the same for this coffee maker. In that case, it would be a nice addition to their existing equipment, esp., as you suggested, if they are also a camper . So, the market may be larger than you may have originally considered.
Fresh coffee on the job anytime sounds absolutely amazing. Even if it doesn't make the best coffee it'd be miles better then any gas station/fast food place coffee
i like that you say "scissor time" so enthusiasticlly, speaking as anot-at-all-hetrossexual human; i really appreciate the humour
"Immediately goes to see if DeWALT makes one of these."
they need to I’d be a sucker and buy one
I saw a DeWALT USB charging cable someone had -- and I didn't need another one. But obviously I went and bought one.
I'm still recovering from lead poisoning from the Harbor Freight knock-off.
Nah, but they make a bangin' jobsite stereo.
I feel like this was made for people who camp but don’t wanna have to build a fire.
Sometimes you're not allowed to build fires also
That's what the stove is for (1, 2, or 3 burners). I always take my back pack stove (single burner coleman) and set it up to heat water for coffee.
The bigger stoves are then used for cooking food.
But we got isobutane stoves.
Amazing review of a product I would definitely bring to remote worksites!
I have a number of Makita products, some over 3 decades old. Still in great working order. My Makita drill is about as old as I am. The original batteries still charge and work.
Perfect for students on the go who are addicted to coffee. Imaging bringing this to morning class.
Think I'm gonna get this for me but also my husband's birthday. He has all the batteries so it would be perfect for the sailboat!
Why can't more stores have online order pickup like that? It's so convenient.
A very interesting review of a non-traditional "tool". I think from the basket perspective that we would probably have difficulty in portability, grinding coffee, cleaning the basket, for multiple cups throughout the day. However, we didn't see the pod portion of this and how that works. Perhaps, that would solve those inconveniences. That would even move more towards the use for camping as well.
Ah yea Home Depot… the coffee machine place
I love this "Morgan tries weird coffee gimmicks" We need more of this!!
It's actually a really cool gift for someone who is into tools and construction and so forth, nice vid
