They are of British origin because they were the slave owners. Our last names would identify. Which plantation we belonged to ,it has nothing to do with the meaning of the name,we are of African descent

There's a trend now with black Americans claiming they are not originally from Africa. Pretty soon they'll be saying that in Jamaica.

Jamaica's motto is 'Out of many...one people.' Most of us are mixed somewhere along the way, even though we are predominantly black. Still has nothing to do with the fact that these are some of the most common (ASSIGNED OR OTHERWISE) last names in Jamaica.

Don't romanticize slave holders names. Thats why I have a scots man's last name and an englishman's first name even though my ancestry is African.

Greetings, please stop speaking things your way and not the right way. These last names were giving by the slaves masters who wanted to identify their slaves which treated them very bad. Nothing to do with rich values or heritage. Black people carry their genetics talent and culture within them , it comes in our spirit. Thank you.

Actually BARNES is the most popular slave master name in Jamaica, of which we should not be proud of any of the names driven and forced into us whilst being whipped . Plus the meaning of the sir names do not mean a thing to me unless it is representing our true identity, as so-called Africans .
