    I loved this song the first time I heard it. But when I found out it was John writing about his mom it hit my deepest emotion. As with all Mike’s work he does a fantastic job breaking down this song and I look forward to trying to get it down - without choking up🙏🏻 Thanks Mike👍

    This is the one I've been waiting for. Thank you so much. Your teaching style is so good and I've learned a lot from watching your videos.
    I played Travis style for many years in my misspent youth, then took a little break from playing (35 years to be precise) 🙂 When they say it's like riding a bike they're not wrong, but man, starting over was not easy. I fell off that proverbial bike like 98 times.

  • @cjscala87
    @cjscala87 Před rokem +6

    Once you get the Travis picking down it really opens up a lot of songs. You do a great job of teaching the pattern here. The key is to concentrate on the alternating base notes and then incorporate that high string melody

    Hi Mike, First and foremost, what a stellar lesson! Your love for The Beatles is evident in each of your videos, but your video on “Julia” seemed extra special. Maybe, it seemed this way because the song featured just John at his most open and intimately vulnerable on his acoustic guitar? I don’t know, but there is such a lovingly, ethereal quality to the song, and your excellent video pays homage to the delicate, sensitive nature of the song.
    I read that it was just John and Paul in the studio for the song’s recording: John playing with Paul at the recording console. I also read that it was an incredibly emotional experience for John (the baring of his heart and soul), and that he struggled, with his emotions, to play the song in its entirety. I wasn’t there, but I could see that happening due to what his Mom meant to him. Paul, too, had lost his Mom at an early age so he could empathize.
    I learned to Travis Pick so that I could play this song. The chords are lovely, but some are a real challenge to play.
    Your lesson is outstandingly true to the original.
    Thank you
