    Good vid. This is a pretty nice Cessna, it looks CLEAN.I still prefer a dipstick to check fuel level VS visually checking, though. It is also super helpful for short pilots who literally can't see into the fuel tanks 😆

    this video is so helpful, I am training instrument in new 172s (2022) and I got my PPL in one from 1972 which was way more simple and of course did not have a G1000, this video is very helpful helping me get a good Idea of how to pre flight these newer planes because there actually is a lot of differences.

    I will never forget my airframe practical when the examiner assigned me to preflight a relatively new C-172 sitting in the hangar. I found nothing, except, when I asked him, "what were those small holes all along the upper leading-edge skin", (never would have seen from the ground) he said, "Good job". That is what happens when you remove ice with an ice pick".

      @@GR-uc1gq Sounds like someone was trying to remove ice from the leading edge of the wing with an icepick. In doing so they punched holes into the aluminum skin of the wing. No bueno.

    I'd recommend emphasising checking the push rod and casellated nut and cotter pin on the BOTTOM of trim tab. That can kill you if not present.

    Why is the dipstick not used to see how much fuel is in the each tank instead of just visually looking at the fuel?

    • @wavenine2749
      @wavenine2749 Před rokem +2

      You can actually use a dipstick. There are special ones just for seeing how much fuel there is. Was kinda surprised that one was not used in the video.

    Not actually a stall 'VANE' on a 172. It is a port.

    You would have to do the inspection in the hangar only. Outside it would be too blinding to see what you were doing!!

      Simply put, it's easier and cheaper to engineer/manufacture, the adverse rolling/yaw motion is negligible

    It is spelled "Preflight", not "Pre-Flight". Reference Merriam-Webster dictionary, 2023 edition. But what do I know? I'm just a dirty-fingernail, old aircraft mechanic. You go, wunderkind!
