After some more testing of DMD it seems that certain missions actually require you to hit 6,000 stylish points to get the s - rank . Mission 19 in particular is being a pain in the *** to S rank.

Keep in mind that as V, riding Nightmare might make him last longer if you don't get hit, but enemies will deal damage to your DT meter if they hit him, which reduces the meter more if they use more damaging attacks. This also means that in Hell and Hell mode, they'll deplete the entire meter in one hit, so promotion is basically worthless unless you can be evasive while riding Nightmare.

@Christopher Marlowe Well jump canceling is never explained in the menu. It started as an old exploit that created cooler combos, and, since then, DMC have made it kind of an open secret in the games for advanced players. Hell, it's even in DmC: Devil May Cry. I didn't think it'd still be in DMC 5 with the new grappling systems, though.

  • @NukeHP
    @NukeHP Před 5 lety +277

Regarding style points needed for S-ranks, it's: 4k for Human, 5k for DH, 5.5k for SoS and Hell&Hell, and 6k for DMD.
Also, your score is persistent through each mission, with each fight adding or subtracting from your style points total as you go. The number you have at the very end, often shown during a cutscene (esp after a boss), is what gets the multipliers that then determines your rank. Section grades are simply based on your accumulated style points at the end of that section. For example, M2's hotel is a section marker: the stylish points notification you get after the fight just outside of its entrance will be the number that shows up for that section at the end. The last fight in said hotel is another section and acts the same.
What's important to know is that skipping encounters does not affect your score in either direction. If you watch your style points notifications and keep track, you'll notice it will stay exactly the same when it updates after you skip an encounter. This is very useful in M8, where the skippable fights are also a bit annoying to get good style ratings for.
So, the general idea is to keep an eye on your style points notifications and see if they're tracking toward your target number. You'll likely be going for no continues at least, so on DMD you wanna aim for 5k (x1.2 = 6k for S). If you're already around that number and know there's a fight that's skippable in your path that may give you trouble, then skip it. If you're tracking low, you may need to seek out optional fights and do well to boost it back up. If you're having trouble with a particular mission, keep track of your points and see where they tend to dip. If those are skippable, then maybe do so. If not, you'll have to learn how to approach that encounter to ideally get a net positive but at least minimize losses.

In general, best thing I found to do is avoid dying; if you can survive the encounters without dying and you're reasonably skilled with combos and defense, you'll blow past the requirements with the bonus most of the time. That said, dying on DMD is really easy to do, and because the enemies are so meaty, maintaining focus is more difficult than any of the other levels.

Royal Guard is annoying to learn and not very flashy compared with other styles but it will trivialize DMD mode if you master it.
In particular mission 19, I just kept replaying the fight until I got my Royal Guard timings down pat. I was going to learn to block or fail forever. It really boosts your style gauge AND it gives you devil trigger to use. That gives more healing AND more SDT uses plus boosts your style easily so you can get some quick damage in with quad S rank. Learn to block, you will never regret it.

This is probably a bit of an oversight on Capcom's part but you can turn on auto mode with V and just focus on a no damage run for easy S ranks. Mashing both of the attack buttons at the same time is essentially like having them boosted the entire time even when not locked on. What makes this even more cheesy is that you can aim your camera AWAY from the action and the enemies will try their best to get in frame before attacking while the familiars are on auto pilot. The only tricky part are bosses but they can be beaten without taking a hit pretty easily as long as you're paying attention.

There are other multipliers you forgot to mention. Restarting from a checkpoint three times, whether from the pause menu, or by dying and selecting "give up," will give you a "Triple Continue" multiplier of 0.9x. And turning on Auto Assist at any point in the level, even if you do it by accident and turn it off again immediately, will hit you with the Auto Assist multiplier of 0.8x, so be careful with that right stick.

  • @ratchetpokemaster123

Speaking from personal experience, the 0.5 multiplier only actually applies to if you revive three times with Gold Orbs.
If you die normally and use continues from the checkpoints without gold or red orbs, you won't actually get a multiplier until you die up to three times, at then which you'll get a 0.9 multiplier to your score otherwise. And like you said, the multipliers stack, so if you end up caving and using a gold orb, then you can get two 0.9 multipliers stacking on your score. And if you just give in and use three Gold Orbs after either of those, you'll have the 0.5 multiplier on top of the previous penalties.

Heres a tip after my experience of beating dante must die:
    A. MISSION TIPS
    1. Always watch out for your health everytime you finish a battle.
    2. Look out for much as gold, blue, purple orbs as you can
    3. Try your best to get all the red orbs as you can
    4. Always search the missions for secret missions because they give you blue orbs.
    5. Before you beat dante must die, try to get a lot of money from bloody palace and try to finish it. When you have a lot of money (like thousands of red orbs), buy as much as gold orbs that you can then thats when you try to actually beat the missions.
    6. When you die in a mission spend your red orbs first because the price gets higher everytime you die. When you can't buy a revive anymore, thats when you use the gold orbs.
    B. CHARACTER TIPS
    a.NERO
    1. Always try to go to the air first and use your arm to snatch them into the air and because you have multiple enemies during a fight always dodge them by jumping to the enemy.
    2. When you have multiple enemies never try to do devil buster when they can reach you
    3. Only use break age when you really need it
    b.DANTE
1.SWITCHING FROM OFFENSE TO NEUTRAL TO DEFENSE
    a.OFFENSE
1.Always go to trickster style first to teleport to the enemy when your in the offense side because you need to teleport to the enemy then switch to swordmaster style. When your sin devil trigger is charged up only use it if you can maintain a SSS style but you can also use if you enemy is already low health so you dont get exposed to damage after using sin devil trigger
    b.NEUTRAL
    1. Just always switch styles depending on the situation of the battle.
    c.DEFENSE
    1. Always start by using royal guard because you need to block all the damage first and it also charges up the one where it gives a lot of damage when its fully loaded. Then when the enemy is done attacking switch to trickster style to teleport then sword master style to attack. Then when hes about to attack again go back to royal guard style and do the technique again until he dies.
    C. V
    1. Always stay away from the battle as much as battle and use griffon and the others to attack only use griffon in long ranged combat and also use it beside you to protect yourself when there are enemies near you and use the panther to switch to the offensive style and finally only use your devil trigger there are really a lot of enemies. And when the enemies are all low healths use V's skill wheee he teleports in the air then throws a lot of his weapon / his cane. Then after that all the enemies are dead. And when 1 of them are stalemated try to use the others to attack the enemies while your in one of your stalemated animals like griffon.

I'm most of the way through DMD, having had to rely on golden orbs a lot starting out, but then went back to practice missions and bosses on SOS. Feeling much more confident now, and was even able to beat Malphas first-try without revives (whereas I struggled with her on my first playthrough), but still kinda dreading mission 19 in particular. We'll see how it goes... and then, it's on to HoH and the other HoH.

I'm not expert in this game (I can't jump cancel) but so far the hardest mission to S rank have been Mission 11 (I think?) the very first mission that let you play with Dante.
Nero S Rank is not that hard as long as you use the charge shot as you suggested and a good combo friendly devil breaker link punch line.

So if you see some awkward enemies that you can't combo reliably to sss rank, skip them as they'll only bring your score average down, but if you see some optional enemies that you can guarantee sss against. Then by all means, use them to boost your score. So generally avoid optional furies and judeccas and murder optional cainas. But it's 100% your choice.
