I scored the Devi8 2 at Ross for $39.99 a couple of months back and what a fantastic shoe! I liked it so much I just bought the Elite 2 and it’s even better! Just a heads up for your viewers, all of the puma line are hitting your local Ross/Burlington for $34-39.99 that includes the devi8 2, Magnify, forever run, velocity 2 and Fast -r.
The Elite 3 is scheduled to be released this winter and they’re finally going with a 40mm stack hight which should make it a more suitable marathon shoe. You might want to go with a higher stack hight shoe than the Devi8 2 to save your legs for your first marathon especially towards the later miles.

How much do you think shoes affect your pace? You think you could use your NB for long runs and maintain the same pace as your other shoes?

In my experience, race day/tempo shoes that have a plate/more responsive foam make it easier to run ~1-1.5 minutes/mile faster than a regular shoe. I think I could use the NB's and maintain the same pace, it would just feel a lot harder to. Hope this helps!

I really like my pair, I think they would be great for either unless you prefer something more aggressive for a race.

The Puma is a higher risk choice, especially for your first Marathon. Usually first timers come out too fast, and that shoe and the plate is going to encourage/support making that mistake well. It will probably seduce you, the feel. I'd probably go with the NB shoe, which is sort of a gold standard for long runs, as you said. Why? Less risk, more certainty to not make mistakes...and I would not even be thinking of your first marathon in terms of a 'race' and so therefore I need a 'race day shoe'. Nope, I would focus on achieving negative splits, which would be incredible for a first time marathoner. Most negative splits are achieved in a runner's daily trainer - you're less likely to make all the typical mistakes we all do, if you wear your daily trainer. That's the thing about marathons, even if you study the elevation charts, etc. and strategize it all out...on race day, your adrenaline, lots of runners get 'drawn' out of their strategy - there are all sorts of mistakes you can make that cause you to miss your goals...in many ways it becomes about risk management, and that Puma shoe is rolling the dice - and a mistake I've made many times (wearing the wrong shoe, thinking ambitiously, etc.) Good luck.

lol no, the deviate nitro 2 is the daily trainer, if anything it’s a great first option for a first marathon to “slow down”
The elite is the pure race day shoe
