New tropical cyclone heading towards Tanzania - May 1, 2024

A new tropical depression formed near Grand Terre in the western Seychelles today, and has been lingering around the area for a while now. However, movement is expected to increase soon as it develops into a tropical storm, and swing westwards towards the coast of southern Tanzania in east Africa. The storm is expected to peak with winds near 50 miles per hour, and be on a weakening trend by the time it arrives in Tanzania.
The primary threat from the depression is rainfall, with an additional 300mm likely for Grand Terre, and up to 300mm possible for the coast of Tanzania up to Mafia Island.
Elsewhere, an area of interest could develop near Australia's Top End this weekend or early next week, but signals remain unclear.
