    Also regarding your thermal question regarding the battery: wouldn't the laws of thermo dynamics be in effect here? Which is to say, when heat is being generated by the CPU the heat will move along the heat pipes to the areas that are cooler based on how heat travels. Because the fan would be cooling the heat wouldn't this create a positive flow of heat that would keep heat from moving towards the batteries heat sink? In this way wouldn't the battery heat sink just help to move heat away from the battery itself?
    My own experiences with the battery discharging is that it doesn't really generate heat. Only when the battery is being discharged and charged at the same time does the battery tend to heat up. Your thoughts on the matter would be much appreciated.

    I tried to disconnect the charger and use it purely on battery, after using quite a while, my hands feel uncomfortable and can feel the tingles sensation... If I lift the laptop close to my ear, I can hear tiny sizzling sounds from it. Could it be that the live wire is touching the case and how could I possibly fix it?

      Hi Larry, I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after 5 minutes, no response, had to plug in usb-c power for the blue LED to light up. The system power cycled on its own for around 10 times, each time the blue LED and the screen didn't last longer than 10 seconds. Sometimes there's nothing on the screen, sometimes I see the one mix logo, there was once I saw the windows login screen but only for a split second. The system stopped power cycling (restarting on its own) after maybe the 10th time. When I press the power button it's the same 5-6 seconds of blue LED before going out again.
      I then tried leaving the battery disconnected and try switching on with usb-c power, the behavior is the same (5-6 seconds blue LED then nothing).....

  • @TomaszKucza
    @TomaszKucza Před 4 lety

    In mine the keyboard and mouse-thingy stopped working one day. Any idea what might have caused that? It seems they are connected by separate cables, so unlikely the cables broke. Where is the sensor for screen position? Maybe in my case it disabled the keyboard thinking the screen is flipped (power button and backlight for keyboard work - the backlight is always on though)?

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  Před 4 lety

      Given that the keyboard (actually attached using USB internally) and the mouse have stopped working together perhaps it does think it is in tablet mode. I assume the power button still works, and as part of the keyboard, that part should probably be fine.
      The sensor for position I think (could be wrong) is a magnet Hall Effect Sensor. It's not exactly something that could get dirty or stuck in this application, but perhaps you might want to experiment with a strong magnet carefully to see if you can trigger it or something. Perhaps unplugging the battery and reconnecting it may reset the device. Does the display still turn off when closed in laptop mode?
      Cheers

    • @TomaszKucza
      @TomaszKucza Před 4 lety

      @@liminalsunset Thanks for the quick reply. The power button works, the device goes to sleep normally when I close the lid and display turns off. Checked with a strong magnet, no reaction to it in any place, hm, maybe it uses different way to detect being closed. I can use the device with external mouse and keyboard, so the USB subsystem works.

      @UCaoe6oqqYAryy1zcTp8Hamg I believe there are some sensors inside the actual screen part, like the accelerometer. Unfortunately as a niche device schematics aren't available to perform more detailed analysis on this, but I'm wondering if the keyboard controller chip could be identified on the board, and the "enable" signal traced somewhere perhaps.

    • @liminalsunset
      @liminalsunset  Před 2 lety

      Hi,
      Sorry for the late response. This laptop doesn't have a BIOS battery or a capacitor on board; it uses the main battery for this function. You may try to unplug the main battery for a while, maybe more than 5 minutes, and press the Power key with the battery out and the machine unplugged to drain residual power. As I note in the video, it may take a few restarts for the machine to power up when the battery is plugged in and the power adapter plugged in the first time it boots after a battery disconnection.
      Please let me know what you think
      Good luck!

After waiting for over 5 minutes, I reconnected the battery and plugged in the power and tried to restart many times without any success. Is there another way to reset the bios? Are there any pins on motherboard to reset bios? There is some anecdotal evidence that Windows updates may cause start up problems, but no solution is available. If I can somehow get into the bios, I can reinstall Windows. Could a bad battery cause these problems? I do appreciate any advice you can provide.

      @@walkercythompson If the cost is not of concern to you, the Platinum probably won't get much hotter, since they are limited by TDP. However, on the other hand, the performance difference should not be astronomically better. I usually use mine on battery saver, and the machine says it can run up to 12 hours on the battery (idling screen on). I don't see any reason this would be different with the i7, as long as you limit the performance. Pretty much the only other difference with the two is the colour.
