Goofy video of my 1968 1600ti. Super cool car, numbers matching and very original. The plan is to do a mechanical restoration but leave the paint as it. What would you do?
You have the right idea man. Do just that, make it clean under the skin. But leave the exterior and interior as found.. Google the tag #beersnob02 , thats the car I did this with. Its the best feeling in the world...the car just seems to give back, unending, as a thank you. Its the favorite of my two 2002s.
First car was a 1968 BMW 1600 bought in 71 and drove through college. Great car, sold it to buy my wife's engagement ring 40 years ago.
I too, would do the chrome but also the interior, the lights, and electronics.. Great find and good luck. Please post on your progress.
Leave the paint, mechanical restoration. It's beautiful. how did it go?

I would do the same thing but restore the chrome parts aswell
I would sell it to me. But if you don't go with that option then I'd do what you said
