      With regards to radio choice I know that considering channels, programming etc is important but what about feel when flying? My dx6 was used for flying my fixed wings but now I only fly my heli’s the thing I struggle the most with is the throttle/pitch stick. I de adjusted the notchy setting the stick had for the fixed wing but now doesn’t feel smooth and if I back it off even more it just flops about…any thoughts?

      @@targetoz5470 feel when flying is VERY important. Thank why I said I like the Vcontroler so much. It has a incredible feel. Unfortunately the older radios have potential amateur gimbals and very hard to get a super smooth feel but! You can take the retention bar off and add some Teflon to it that will help with the smoothness.

    I used to fly Spektrum until I got into FPV about a decade ago. When your radio link really matters that's what separates the good from the also ran and I wouldn't fly anything I cared about with Spektrum these days. LOS pilots are a lot more forgiving I think. EdgeTX is a little more difficult to learn but if you can think it, you can program it and it has great support for the truly bulletproof links like Crossfire and ELRS.

    When I got back in the hobby in April, I forgot a lot of stuff. Hobby Shop was trying to sell me on an NX8 but then that nosey customer jumps in and says, "You only need 6 channels for a helicopter.". So now, I'm stuck without Rescue.
    As for getting a TX that others in your field fly, it's true. A lot of the guys at a nearby field are using VControl and makes buddy boxing very quick and easy. Lots of new fliers there have been saying how greatful they are for having a buddybox to help them improve.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thank you! The difference between IX and NX is the operating system. IX series radios are android based with full color touchscreen basically tablet interfaces. It makes programming and navigating the menus so much nicer than the older scroll wheel and buttons. We have the technology now, and incredible options with any type of forward programming. Meaning when you’re at the field if you need to make an adjustment, you can get right on your radio and adjust what is needed without needing to hook up or do any computer work. And having the incredible program ability that we have in these newer radios for tonight utilize what is there.

    Seems like its really hard to beat the Radiomaster stuff on paper? I'm Flip flopping between getting the Boxer or the TX16S. Coming from an OOOOOLD ass Turnigy 9x that's beat to hell and back (and upgraded with ER9X firmware). The thing I like about the Radiomaster stuff is that it kinda reminds of my Turnigy, being fully customizable, and having the JR style back port can take external modules.
    I can get the Boxer with the built in 1 watt ELRS, and throw on an external 4-in-1 for all my really old stuff. I fly mostly fixed wing stuff in the 400 and 800mm range, have flown some small copters but kind moved away from that. Do want to get into the quads though.
    Is the new spectrum stuff even competing with ELRS? I've always found spectrum to be good quality, but IMO over priced for what it is. Its sort of like the iphone of the RC world, and that kinda annoys me an an android kinda guy lol.

      So my personal experience with the radiomaster TX16S was not great. I had a few problems and crashed three Helis because of radio loss. I also had two different gimbal springs break (stock gimbals) so I lost all trust and confidence in the radio and never used it again. I know some guys like them and they have great experience with them. I personally don’t like all the programming to make a heli or plane work. It’s a lot! They feel cheap, but so does the NX6,NX8 and NX10. My favorite spektrum radio is the IX14. Yes it’s expensive but well worth it. It’s a android system so if you like that it’s perfect. You can plug a module in the back and use it for many things. Just my opinion. I also like Vcontorl but you can only use it with Vbar.

    • @sea_kerman
      @sea_kerman Před 2 měsíci

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 yeah the 4-in-1 module isn't super reliable because all the protocols on it are reverse-engineered, but ELRS has an extremely robust link, probably what I would trust more than almost anything else for bigger models.

    • @fraggsta
      @fraggsta Před měsícem +1

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Of course your experience is your own, but I feel your experience of the TX16S is not representative of the radio. It sounds like yours was faulty, I've never had signal loss on mine even when flying at a field where other people using Spectrum have lost models due to mysterious connection losses. In 4 years I have never had a signal loss, never had any problems with the gimbals. You can get them with the 4 in 1 module or ELRS built in, or like me you can buy a cheap ELRS module that plugs into its module bay. ELRS is a good, very modern radio protocol which will do very long range so great for FPV. ELRS is probably going to slowly take over from other protocols. I think the TX16S is definitely for people who enjoy tinkering with the radio though. EdgeTX offers a lot more flexibility than other radios. You can make it do just about anything but it's likely that people at the field are using something else and you'll have to do a bit of searching and watching youtube videos to find out how to do things with it. If you don't like the feel of the TX16S because it's too large, or feel you don't need a large colour touchscreen, there's the smaller TX12 and Boxer.

      It’s a long story but long story short, I flew futaba for 10 years. I bought a new radio from them. After I crashed a prop plane because of signal loss I said oh bad RX. I flew some more prop planes no issues. I flew my Jet ($20k) and lost it because of the same issue. Radio loss. I sent the radio back to futaba and they said nothing was wrong. I flew some cheaper planes to test and no issues. Went to fly anther Jet and same thing. 3 minutes into the flight all radio was lost. This time I put a X under the battery. I sent it back in, they said “we had some radios go out that where unlocked” “we will send you a brand new radio” so I got the “new” radio and looked under the battery. The X was still there! I called them back and they said “sorry, we can sell you a new radio” “and we will send you a new RX” I said no thank you. I tossed the radio and will never support a company that won’t stand behind there products when flying any type of plane let alone expensive planes.
