- Lies of P gameplay: Luke and Ellen play the demo of Lies of P, which is a Soulsborne take on Pinocchio. It's just like the classic children's tale, but with marginally more corpse-eating dogs.
The Lies of P demo is out now on PC and Xbox Series X/S, the full game release date is 19 September on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S.

A world where Edvard has gone mad with power (more than usual) and gotten obsessed with building lots of Wonderful Mechanical Men.
I want this to exist so badly.

If they make another gameplay video, I hope Andy's there as Edvard.

Edvard: *"Over **_his_** dead body!"*
Luke singing "I'm the best at video games" while kiting 40 enemies around the map by dodge rolling will live rent free in my head forever.
All to the theme of 16 tonnes
I have yet to watch the video far enough to see if they mention it, but I really love how the loading bar progress is Pinocchio’s nose, with the appropriate accompanying words “Now Lying” 😆 I loved the demo and can’t wait to experience the full game!
Also super congratulations on reaching 1 Million subscribers!🎉🥳🎊🎉🍾
I can't believe that Ellen didn't spot this excellent graphical pun! Did she not notice it ?
I absolutely love how Luke managed to find the hardest possible route through the demo. Missed shortcuts and Stargazers, never sharpened his blade, didn't check to see what his fable arts do. Just sheer luck to have the hardest time possible
Not to mention he skipped the unblockable attack Tutorial twice
Isn’t this what he’s known for in Bloodborne?
@@thejason755
It didn't matter there though because he was already dead.
An academy series with Luke and Ellen learning together? Lovely.
Loved the design of this game
From the little preview i can already tell imma love this demo playthrough
I know right! Cant wait for Sep 19th
Since I suck at playing soulsbourne games, but generally like the content, it's nice to have you going through them for me (with the added bonus of your commentary :-) )
Yep. Having never played one and not exactly interested in the gameplay concept I was very crushed when I heard this was a soulsborn game after seeing the trailer.
Most of us suck at first. That's part of the experience.
@@ghostderazgriz Yes, but in my case after many hours of trying, I just don't have the reflexes to do it right. So I now enjoy the games vicariously.
@@BlueGriffin20 i only ever played bloodborne, it was my very first soulslike. And while the game does frustrate me to no end at times. I still love it~ you will get into it if you give it a fair chance.
It needs practice to grt better, but once you do perfect dodges, parries or just slap the shit out of a couple enemies. You're going trough some good feels
I feel like it’s been quite a while since we’ve gotten an Oxtra gameplay video and I’d forgotten how delightful they are. I’m going to go watch some more now
I'd love to see a Luke and Ellen let's play of this come fall.
Ellen puppet academy?
This game looks like "what if Timothée Chalamet as Pinocchio?" and "what if Dark Souls but Pinocchio " were the two main questions they set out to answer.
If they ever adapt this into a movie, I guess we all agree that Timothee Chalomet needs to be cast as Pinocchio?
P does look a lot like the actor!
I think it is mainly the hair.
Nah mate
@@DigimonTamerfreak It's the whole look imo
First thing I thought too!
Never underestimate a game about a quintessential wooden toy! After all, we're talking about a toy that has managed to survive the test of time!

@@mikeberg6407 Me too. Can't wait for the full game to come out!
making Pinocchio ridiculously handsome was a genius move on part of the developer

I honestly had a feeling that was the route she was going. She acts all innocent, but I think out of the whole group Ellen probably has the dirtiest mind.

As an italian i'm really proud that Carlo Collodi's legacy lives on.
This game and Enotria are two games i'm really hyped about!
"They could be literal Coppers!" says Ellen, with absolute disregard for all our well being. :D
They are not responsible for our distress. We chooce to watch their video :)
Early comment to say - I missed you two just playing games together so much!
"In Bloodborne it's all about quick movements."
Except in Bloodborne Luke kept putting points into STR but avoided the STR weapons because they were "too slow", yet refused to just do a Skill (Dex) build so he could use the fast weapons. It was maddening (I say this with all the love in the world).
Bloodborne is pretty great with a quality build if you just wanna use a bunch of different weapons since very few scale well. Arcane pairs well with either strength or skill too, the only stat really worth fully diving into on its own is bloodtinge.
@@geordiejones5618 Quality is how I did it my first time. Saw cleaver as my main until I hit Lady Maria, then I switched to the threaded cane for her and she made me learn how to parry. I'd barely used the gun before I got to her. Orphan also had me using the cane in phase 1 and then untransformed saw cleaver for phase 2. Tonitrus was my baby for Amygdala and a few other enemies weak to bolt. Luke would have benefited in Bloodborne with strength weapons if he'd put more levels in stamina. Luke is less maddening to watch play than Ellen. I can barely watch her DS3 vids because she plays it like it's DS1 and doesn't seem to have it click that she needs to be just a bit faster and that enemies have noticeably more speed on them (for the most part).
absolutely loved how Luke started laughing purely on reflex then continued to burst out in laughter after realising what he was actually laughing at😂
Just a bit past the boss you make it to the hotel and they introduce an interesting mechanic. Spoilers below
You're a "special" puppet and can lie. You need to lie to get into the hotel. I wonder if there will be several instances where you can choose to lie or not and make the story/progression play out differently.
Indeed, there is.
The attacks where the enemies grow red are “undodgeable”. Those attacks can only be perfect-parryed. There is an in-game tutorial in the settings menu explaining it.
I'm not so sure about that. I know it says it in the tutorial, but I dodged plenty of those glowing red attacks. That said, I'm trying to get away from dodging much in the demo since it feels very clumsy. I finally got the hang of parrying against that first boss though and made it to the hotel. They're showing more of the game than I was expecting given that it's a demo.
You didn't "dodge" them as in utilizing the i-frames; you just ended up out-ranging them by dodging backwards.
@@SolaScientia It's, "undodgeable," as in we can't I-frame through it, but if we're out of the attack's physical range, then it won't damage us, either. I personally think the parrying feel in this game is...a bit off, so I've only ever kept my distance from those attacks, but it's equally likely that I'm just doing it wrong - is there a visual/animation feedback from a successful parry?
@@bobbyfernando A perfect parry gives you a louder "TCHING!" sound and maybe some more sparks, but otherwise there's no special effect. It would be nice if the enemies had a Groggy gauge to show what effect Perfect Parrying is having on them, because to start with I didn't see the point of it!
@@CraigJudd I'm both glad and sad to know that I've been doing it right, haha. That's...wild. I'm not even asking for a full-blown Groggy effect, but it still needs to have _some_ form of attack cancellation animation, because, as it is, it _feels_ like the hit still lands (especially since the glowing attacks are usually very wide-reaching). And there's absolutely no reason to bother parrying regular attacks, because the enemy can then still proceed with their combo, right?
Prior to the evil puppet revolution, what purpose did the 12 ft creepy circus robot with a cage that holds dead bodies serve exactly!?! 😂 Also to be fair to Luke, the dodge mechanics in this game are rough!
Late reply, but there's a flyer that explains it: He was a walking parade float, specifically designed to be able to carry humans on his shoulders. The cage was probably either for holding a circus animal or was added during the evil puppet revolution.
@@connorburton1009 Ha! That's cool they gave some in game law to explain it... Hopefully they also tweeked those dodge's
This looks really exciting! Beautiful world, intriguing use of a public domain character, and they seem to have really understood what makes this style of game so delightful - gotta check this out
Rare to see a demo too! Shows a compelling degree of confidence in the game
i'd bloody love to see a full playthrough of this on the channel, just played through the demo and really enjoyed the experience, although i went strength, which seemed maybe slightly easier to play than the dexterity build.
I'm still on my fist playthrough of the demo and I went with a quality build since that's my preferred build in FromSoftware's games and I wanted to see how Round8 handled it in Lies of P. It works pretty well. The saber is fairly fast and responsive. I might try the strength build next. I've made it to the hotel and out of the other side and I'm very surprised the demo didn't end after the first boss. I figured when they loaded the game title in the cutscene that that was the end of the demo. I did immediately put Pinocchio in those new clothes though, lol.
I think the trouble the dex build just based on my experiences is just how much the game emphasis parries/blocks. I did a lot more dodging until the first boss. I finally had to parry more and that made the fight a lot more manageable. Yeah, there are Bloodborne elements in there, but there are also a fair bit of elements out of Sekiro.
Poster: "Dream of becoming a Real Girl"
Me: Heroically refrains from making a Real Doll joke.
Imagine a letsplay of this with Luke and Ellen passing the controller back and forth on the couch a la Aoife and Johnny back in the day with Bloodborne - with breaks for Andy to stick his head in disapprovingly when the P jokes go too far
😂😂love how much Luke tries to hold back the laughter at p-organs so good
i like the little details with the conductors while theyre hitting you with their signs the 'stop' sign is facing you and when they die it lands on the 'go' sign
Ellen being made to choose the starting build for someone else is some high anxiety stuff. I hope we get a whole play through series of this game.
I love how the boss's subtitles are all garbled and corrupted. It adds that extra special flare that just makes it all the creepier.
YES! I noticed that too when I was playing through the demo. And there are definitely a few different “dialogue lines” that the bosses cycle through so it’s not just random garbage. I wonder if at some point you will be able to get a translator upgrade so that upon NG+ playthroughs you will be able to understand what the bosses are saying…!!?
@@DavidSaulesco I mean, you can read what he says if you have a chance to pause it or screenshot it. It's a lot of stuff about a king's festival and the carriage that awaits. But you're right that having the chance to have it deciphered in game would be really cool.
The Let's Play I've been waiting for all week! And almost an HOUR LONG!
(Later) I hope the team played just a _little_ bit more than they showed so they could get to the hotel. Having a hub world that's actually gorgeous is a nice change for the genre.
The demo of this game was pretty amazing - I'll be playing "Lies of P" in September !
Amazon says December for the UK. I hope it is earlier though!
The demo is quite long as well. Took me more than 2 hours to finish. And it was a brilliant experience. Will definitely pick this up
@@georgeashley6643 Weird. Steam says 19 Sept. Although 31 December is usually a placeholder from when release window is "sometime this year". Either the listings haven't been updated since the release date was announced last week or the physical copies are coming after the digital release (which seems unlikely).

Waiting for Luke to realise a perfect parry deflects those red attacks is going to give me an aneurism
I love the fact that he missed the perfect block tutorial twice, at least.
They do have a tendency to not fully read all the tutorials, which might mean less pauses in action, but also leads to not knowing key mechanics 😅
It was nearly half an hour before he realised the health potions only refill once their empty! I love this dude but... damn! 😂
@@Giga-lemesh it also leads to some very funny moments 😂
Or that using fable arms also helps a lot in fights.
This game looks so promising, very hyped for it's release. I extra appreciate the small details in the character animations f.e. that Pinocchio ducks when the enemy does a swiping attack when pressing dodge compared to other Soulsborne games where you would generally just do a roll when dodging. It requires some adjustments to ones own playstyle but I like that this builds up immersion
When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, all your limbs will be dismembered, your head too. Will we get P academy?
I love it when Luke and Ellen play games together.
Had to get used to the gameplay a bit, but I'm enjoying Lies of P so far! Glad to see it on the channel. :D
(It's on the PS5 as well!)
I'm still getting used to it and I've made it to the hotel. I've been dodging too much and the first boss was a problem until I caved and started parrying. Makes it feel more like Sekiro than Bloodborne, but still its own thing. The dodging is very clumsy, which is probably meant as a hint to parry more. Quality build with the saber feels pretty nice and I might try a strength build next time to see the difference. I have a feeling dex might be more awkward in this game.
It's very nice to play it on the PS5 for sure.
That was AWESOME. I'm glad that I've been watching your channel for a while and got to see this. it would be nice to see a stream of the whole game cause I'm wondering a bit about the plot of the game itself. Good luck with the whole game itself!
I loved that Luke didn't give up during the Parade Master and I definitely can't wait for the whole game play through!
My favourite games are Sekiro, Dishonored, Assassins Creed Syndicate and Bioshock Infinite; and I've always wanted to play Bloodborne, but I didn't have a Playstation, so my only recourse was watching Luke's playthrough.
Also, I just absolutely love the Pinocchio story.
So far, I've already gotten further than here in the demo, and suffice to say, this is very likely to become my all time favourite game EVER!!!
What Luke didn't seem to utilize much, was that, much like Sekiro, a well-timed block can be very effective, and an expertly timed block can even deflect the red charged attack. Also, you might not notice that enemies quickly recover from damage, so it is often more prudent to charge in aggressively to keep that health bar from going back up as well as interfere with their attacks.
I see a similar phenomenon happening here that I saw a lot of in Elden Ring, people trying to play this game as if it's this other game. With Elden Ring people tried to play it like it was Dark Souls. Here it looks like Luke is trying to play it like it's Bloodbourne (here's a tip, blocking is much more potent in both ER and LoP).
I follow gaming channels - and this one is my current fave - but I’ve never really wanted to watch other people play games. Until now. I love this so much.
I’m not usually the type to internally backseat but when Luke just ran right past the first bonfire I was screaming lmao
It felt like Luke's experience with Bloodborne was actually _hindering_ him here, since he put blocking out of mind very quickly. If they stream this later in the year (or when Luke plays it on his own) and it becomes more of it's own thing for him, I'm sure he'll move through it so much faster. Awesome demo of the demo, y'all!
Agreed, I had the same problem when I was playing the demo, especially with the boss the game seems to really want you to guard/perfect guard, which is tough to remember to do when you're used to Bloodborne and your instinct is to dodge everything. Doesn't help that I found the dodging really unresponsive in this game, it was borderline useless against the bosses
@@rivierakid63087 Yeah, I had trouble with that first boss until I figured I needed to just block/parry the attacks. Once I did that the boss went down pretty quickly. Them having the dodging feel very clumsy is probably meant to encourage blocking and parrying. That and dodging absolutely eats up stamina way faster than I was expecting.
@@SolaScientia Dodging also feels a bit random. You dodge the attack and sometimes the game decides to hit you anyway.
@@DieSpielhoelle Yeah, I got that impression when I was fighting that first boss, and those larger regular enemies that showed up.
I think the main problem is that everyone compares this game to Bloodborne when it is clearly more inspired by Sekiro. The only thing actually pulled specifically from Bloodborne is the recovering health from attacking, which is only recoverable if you did a normal guard instead of a perfect one
you know, I think there's something to be said for a game concept that makes me laugh every time it's described ^.^ thanks for such a delightful video!! I'd love to see more of this, it's really fun! the dead horses count is definitely high enough to make it an honorary fromsoft ^.^
Do you think that maybe there was just one really disgruntled intern on the development team totally messing with everyone like "yeah, yeah, P-organ sounds great, definitely put that in"
Luke: "Perhaps I should just poke my nose this way?"
Ellen: "Mmmm."
Me: "Ellen! You missed an opportunity to call that on-brand! Or easy! Or something, anything!"
Those cranking little bigbies are P kickers to the max! Luckily, P's arts are all the way to the fable edition.
Guyss I have to say that your commentary was really funny! I also love Ellen's voice, so cheerful and happy. Her giggles are also so adorable!
The p organs bit had me dying lmao😂
”The ol’ copper twist”

I felt like screaming at the screen when he didn't open the stats before picking dex 😂 otherwise love you guys and the video
I found this game way more fun and interesting than I thought I would. I especially loved the hilt/blade combination system and how utterly beautiful it is. I've been fighting the urge to do a 3rd bloodborne run to tide me over until FFXVI is released.
When Luke read the bit about 'Puppet threshhold exceeds danger estimates!' I immediately just had all the times a warning goes off in Evangelion in my head, complete with venting from Pinocchio. He's gone beserk!
The key to the Parade Master fight is treat him like a Sekiro boss. All of his attacks can be deflected with the exception of his red charge attack and once he staggers (shown when his health bar has a white outline), charge attack him to open him up for a fatal strike.
Actually you can deflect the red ones! During my first couple fights with him those were the only ones I was able to deflect consistently lol
Well done Luke, that looked like hard work! Looking forward to more!
Ellen makes a very good point on going for a Balanced build.👍👏
Luke completely ignores Ellen's advice and makes her choose between Dex and Strength.😂
Classic Luke and Ellen.💜
I feel like it's entirely in character for Ellen to suggest a cautious and sensible approach only for Luke to promptly do the exact opposite in the interest of entertainment. I suppose the small mercy is that you probably can't smash your own headlights in this game.
Luke: "What do you think Ellen? I'll do whatever you think."
Ellen: Tells Luke what she thinks.
Luke: "NOOOOO!" 🤣
22:21 I see the game has the most iconic soulslike feature: the thing where sometimes the lock-on button will just decide to do the exact opposite of locking-on
I knew this was going to be a good game, once I noticed that the loading bar was Pinocchios' lying schnozz.
Downloaded this morning. This game rocks! Reminds me so much of Bloodborne, and in a Great way. First death was to parade master. No health lol. Excited for this one
10:42 wow, does that mean the BBEG of this game will be Edvard Lumiere?
Being offered a sword and then told, "this'll help you to the hotel" reminds me of my last holiday
Looks great! I've recommended your streams calling Luke "the Bob Ross of Bloodborne." Luke cheerily playing through Bloodborne was such an uplifting gift during lock-down, and inspired me to try the game myself when I never would have before. Now I've played and beaten Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, and am very excited to watch and play Lies of P.
That item you didn't buy would have made this fight worlds easier for you. It was a shock grinder that applies lightening damage to your weapon and it deals insane damage to the clown.
Luke, you didn't use my special move for the third or fourth try on a good boss. It is called,"Tossing the controller on the floor and saying words my mum would not approve of". It doesn't help any but I do keep trying. haha. Both of you were great. Thanks for the fun.
I'm guessing Monstro'll be super cuddly in this game...
Luke: "This is fine!"
Ellen: *nervous mickey mouse noises* 30:50
Lol you guys were fun, will tune in for full playthrough!
Congratulations once again on reaching one million subscribers Luke and Ellen.
You need to parry just before the attack. It breaks their weapon and reduces the damage they cause. You can party the red attacks too
I'd never played a souls-like game before, but I really liked this one, so I decided to give it a go. I'm trying to kill the first boss, and although it might take me a while, I'm having a whale of a time. I'll definitely play the full game once it gets out.
33:56 Luke should have said, “That’s right Ellen. Now he has no nuts or bolts.”
The game and demo are also on PS4/5 for anyone wanting to play on those platforms.
For those that are wanting to play this game, I'd say it's more like Sekiro than Bloodborne. The game doesn't really want you to dodge, but instead use "perfect blocks" to get your enemy into a "groggy" state. If you read that Sekiro is the hardest FromSoft game, and were subsequently dissuaded, just think of it as Dance Dance Revolution with cool swords.
Ah I was watching Luke fight the Orphan of Los again today, would be so keen to see him do another souls-like playthrough!
I have been waiting for Luke to play this!
I love that rapier's moveset. It's satisfying when the P jumps in to poke and then jump out quickly. In, out, in, out, in, out, EXPLOSION BODILY FLUIDS!
17:04. I laughed so hard I almost released all of MY P-Organ's energy.
I tried out this demo but got kinda bored - turns out souls game stories aren't for me I need a driving story and main character (e.g. love Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor and that combat) BUT when I deleted it my first thought was "I'm definitely excited to watch oxtra play it though" and here you are! 😄
I believe this is the text in the subtitles, presumably spoken by the Parade Master.
39:42 "How unfortunate, and charming carriage was waiting for you!" [sic]
40:21 "Oh, the king is celebrating!"
41:49 "Now we shall be happy. Now, off to our toy land..."
42:26 "Finally a guest is here! Kick this party into gear!"
45:29, 46:51, 48:55 "Bad children get the stick!"
46:20, 47:23 "Oh, you're just in time, listen... do you hear the carriage that's come for you?"
46:37, 47:45 "Come on in, we have been waiting!"
49:29 "You could've given the king a real festival..."
really love this and would love to see more of this game on the channel :D
Can "Fable Arts" be shortened to "F-Arts"? Also, look for my next book "Little Collectible Person, Me: The Ellen Rose Story".
"Oh, so that is this game's [souls/estus/shard/dexterity]." No matter how good they are, the imitators will never get me to use their language. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate them. I'd be interested to see you play more of this when the full version comes out, even if just for more giggles when reading "P-organ".
The Parade Master with a literal stovepipe hat that spews its exhaust, then its torso starts overheating when it tears it off. Nice bit of detail there.
4:11 the aggressive analogue stick sound of luke flicking quickly between the two builds is exactly the correct folly for their conversation lol
I really really really hope for a full livestream playthrough please!!!! The bloodbourne one we all loved! Ive wayched it through quite a few times now. Its just so much fun! Now i wish for P Academy... or just P Mondays, whatever you will call it make it your next Souls-like series of streams please! (when the game comes out that is)
Also Luke you are way better at this then i was when i played the demo, i did use a lot of items to get through that second phase of the boss fight... im so bad at dodging (but i did manage to finish the demo, just do not ask how many tries it took me to kill the last boss, way to many is all i will say).
The butterfly effect: When a butterfly flaps its wings on the chest of Pinocchio, it can create chaos around the world.
Or something like that.
I noticed that after you died, in the top right corner it showed how many souls you had lost just below your current number of souls, which is quite useful! And also, when loading after respawn it says "Now Lying"!
Was at a birthday the other day and Golf With Your Friends, it got intense y’all.
Had to close a window to keep my lot from offending the outside world, love it.
One of the many Lies of P: It shouldn't burn like that.
That whole "P-Organ" segment was a great example of why you really need to run things in games past a few people before you go public. Unless they decided to leave it in to try and go viral while everyone talked about how much fun they were having with Pinocchio's P-Organ. :D
Its so refreshing seeing Luke question the same things I was: "what is fable", etc.
Love this demo, also really enjoy the loading or lying bar is pinocchios nose growing
Pretty excited for this title. Are the control's better than FromSoft control's? Can you rebind them?
I like the potion recovery by hitting stuff. It means you can use those quite liberally.
The game looks so much brighter than when I played it at home. It looks like their brightness was set way high, perhaps with regard to the stream, but I have to say that with the brightness turned down, the game looked even better than this, to the point where a couple of times it was downright a little scary, almost anyway!
