- In this video, I’m going to be reviewing my favorite waterproof pannier for the bike rack on the rear of my bike, the Banjo Brothers Waterproof Pannier.

Here in Colorado our rain or snow is pretty unexpected so I try to have a waterproof pannier on my bike most of the time because I ride no matter what. For the last 5 or 6 years I’ve been using a Banjo Brother’s Waterproof Bike Pannier, sometimes two of them. For $55 these bags are a good value.
The key features I like:
• the roll-top design that does stand open when I pack too much stuff
• replaceable waterproof liner,
• 360º of reflective piping
• Handle and shoulder strap for when I do want to take it off the bike
• And loops for back blinky lights so that when you take the bags off your bike, the lights go with you.
The hooks for these bikes are pretty straightforward. They don’t fit oversized cargo bike tubing well, but they do fit my oversized Urban Arrow rack fine by opening up the mouth.
On the back, there are stretchy ropes to allow you to tighten the lower hook if your bag is swinging too much away from the bike. The only thing confusing about these bags is the lower hooks on the back of the bag. If your bike rack doesn’t have a tab like the ones found on my Urban Arrow you need to add a hook to your bag or rack. I personally prefer to add the hook to my bike so it is easy to grab the bag, but each bag comes with 2, play around with your setup.

What do you carry by bike?!
I got the ortliebs HI vis panniers and I love them. I use them for groceries, commute to work, and some light touring. They work for everything and with the high vis, I am always visible to motorists
I recently purchased the Banjo backpack pannier, waterproof, for commuters. It is an extremely affordable option, and that was wonderful. As background, I don't have a car either, and I shop either by bike or more often on foot, so I wanted something that could serve both modes, and this does seem to be it. I am getting used to having something on the side of my bike, something I've never had before, and those living in the city may understand my initial trepidation that it could be somewhat easy to lift off and run away with. For that reason, I recommend not keeping cc's, money, and cel inside the pannier backpack. At least not until you get a better sense of the likelihood of being jacked in your area. It hooks on pretty easily and that's good. I do find myself checking it somewhat compulsively after going over big bumps, and yep, it's still there! :) It's got some nice side pockets, one with a zipper. I just got it, so we'll see how long it holds up overall. Again, a great option, but I wish I'd gotten a better sense of its size beforehand (customer service was not much help and in fact a bit snarky). Ideally I'd have liked it to be a bit bigger, but I just started using it, so we will see if that minor complaint holds up over time.
I just got the Benno Utility Bags. I haven't installed them yet. I have been using a vintage metal milk crate zip tied and bungee'd on the back rack. It holds 3 reusable trader joe's bags chock full. I also have the front Benno Rack and bag that is sort of my bike purse I can use as overflow parking for stuff I can't get in the crate. My husband's bike could definitely use one of those bags. He's using a bike bucket right now but it can be clunky and loud.
I ziplock my bags to the rack because I travel rough terrain occasionally with a heavier load at times. It’s a must for me
I think nite-ize makes reusable zip ties.
Great job on the video! I’ve been using my bicycle as much as I can for Grocery shopping over the last 12 years. Your statement about bringing the bags into the store and clipping them to the shopping cart is 100% the right way! I always get comments on how cool that is that the bags slip right on to the cart. The bigger plastic Target carts are another story. I am using Novara shopping Panniers I got at REI many years ago and those are great for nice days! I like having the tops open for tall items. I have a front rack and I have tried moving some older ortlieb city rollers to them but I was not 100% satisfied . I am looking at maybe going for ARKEL urban shopping bag but I believe the bike bucket Panniers on eBay might satisfy my need. I only live 1 1/2 miles to the store

I've used the Roswheel 3 in 1 pannier for grocery runs... I've also used a milk crate zip tied (and now bolted to) a rear rack on a Fuji/Marlboro folder bike... recently used my BOB YAK copy to pick up two under bed storage boxes...

I have good luck carrying groceries in Electra branded metal rear rack baskets. They don't have a good fastening system, so I always put a water bottle and/or a lock in them on the trip to the store to keep them from bouncing around too much. I've also used Tern's Konti basket for groceries, but it does have a much smaller volume. Specifically, looking for a pannier convertible backpack or briefcase that isn't crazy expensive. Generally, I love learning about better ways to carry stuff by bike, so you will get at least one view for any video that talks about bags and baskets.
I’ve had the Arkel Bug for five or six years now. I added the laptop sleeve to it and it can carry my work clothes and lunch. Super helpful if you have to lock up the bike outside and trek the last bit into the office. I also like that I can stop off at a coffee shop or bar downtown and sling it over my shoulder. Not as awkward off the bike. I’m a big fan of their hook system as well. Probably on the expensive side but it has really held up well. Hardware is replaceable, but also fairly bomb proof.

Groceries, glass ( to be recycled) and last holliday just about anything ;) bike ( kona ute), child, rider and luggage.......for a total of 460 lbs (!) had to use the kona bags witch are NOT waterproof and couldn’ t fit a double set of my vaude’s for the same reason you mentioned ortliebs don’t fit.......oversized tubes. These would have fit the bill i guess. Waterproof and volume are priority 1 and 2. Nice vid, keep it up!
Big fan of the North St grocery pannier dimensions for grocery shopping, but the Banjo Brothers seems more all-around useful. Wish my bags came with loops instead of hooks!
I’ve used a little of everything from a Blackburn grocery pannier along with my Arkel Bug mixed in with various combos of front and rear touring bags (Arkel Orcas 25 + 35s. Small items a put in my handlebar bag or trunk bag. Which bags I’m carrying at any one time depends greatly on whether I knew I would have to stop at the store on the way into or home from work.

Following. I have some other Banjo Brothers gear. Love the value. I do think they could upgrade their webbing quality without as affecting price much. When I am absolutely sure of a dry Wyoming day, I do pull my liners out to gain volume. This bags are on my wish list.
Generally, what pannier rack do you recommend? (for non-cargo / non-electric bikes).

Are there any cargo bikes that accommodate standard panniers? Seems like most have oversized tubing to steer you toward their specific bags.
It depends on the standard pannier attachment. I have made the banjo hooks work on various cargo bikes by opening the mouth. But something with a plastic round clasp like an ortlieb often works better.
I like the style of the Bikase Reggie 2 but concerned that it might be too small for grociers. They size it at 850 cubic inches while most use the Liter measurement for sizing. Could you do a review...Thanks Greg
Will this bag fit on a rack with 10 mm tubing? I really like the bag but I'm not sure it will work for my rack?

I civilly commented on banjo Brothers Facebook a few years ago about how a strap broke so easily, and the owner of the company freaked out and was very mean it was then I realized that I would never buy banjo Brothers again.

Does your bag get dirty on the back from water? I see your bike have fenders on the wheels but it seems like the spokes of the wheels will also get that white bag dirty. Just curious and will eventually buy some kind of water proof bag to store my camera gear. Thanks for the video.
They do get dirty but the black doesn't show it much, and a wet towel can wipe them off quickly.
What type of gear will you be carrying?
Is that a 20 inch wheel?
The white bike is an urban arrow with a 26” rear wheel and 20” front.
Will this fit a step through foldable ebike with 20 inch wheels?
It really depends on the bike and tubing of the rack. Banjo has great resources on tubing

How to attach the bag to your bicycle. I don't think any company tells you how to do that. They don't describe the mechanism. They don't give you the dimensions of that mechanism.
It boggles my mind.
Maybe they just hope you buy it and then use bungee cords or something so you won't return it because it's a hassle.
If you buy a derailleur they will tell you the exact dimensions oh that trailer and they're a well understood and common ways to attach the derailleur to your bicycle.
