I had delete some CZcams channels because the are becoming more about cinematic rather then useful mountain bike information. This CUES stuff looks really good. Completely makes sense to me to get rid of all those subpar versions and bring out a single good one. Before you wouldn't want to go below Deore, now it looks like it's fine.

Loving the detail you give on the CUES I'm not seeing elsewhere. Still pretty expensive in the UK for this stuff but considering it for converting an old 3 chainring XC MTB into a gravel bike as similar chainline with CUES chainset. I did like the option of mixing Deore and SLX on my MTB's as I like the 5100 derailleur. It seems to nudge people into spending more if they usually buy bottom end Shimano. Would I be right in thinking this?
For now yes but price will come down, this will be very popular with everyone that's not a weight weenie. My 0.02...

Have you actually tried shifting Cues bits with Deore bits and they don't work? Or is it just on paper compatibility? Especially when they list similar cassettes and chainrings.I've got a commuter which runs 5100 at the moment with a Microshift 11s Shimano MTB thumbie. I would bet it won't have any issues shifting a Cues RD, indexed, without any adjustment from 5100.
It sure cleans up the clutter. I like it, also the 2 way shifter, taking from XT to put in a Deore level set is awesome, as well as smart. Yet what will be next up? I am sure they will also start chopping and changing in the higher range sets. As for looks, well, I like it it looks awesome and modern. But I also know for sure a lot of people want a chrome version. So they have one thing to add, chrome versions.

This vid and the previous vid are the best vids I've seen on CUES and Linkglide. A question for Love or anyone else who might know: is the RD-M130-GS derailleur that goes with the Deore 10s M5130 Linkglide system of better quality or higher spec than the derailleurs that go with the CUES drivetrains?
Thanks! I would say it is similar but depending on the number of speeds 11-10-9 you will see cost cutting measures. But the finish on CUES is overall nicer than old Deore.
Can I use 36-26 2x Deore crankset with 1x10 cues 43t? because on spec sheet, it says that 39t will be the max for 2x.
just learned my XT shifter won't be compatible with the new U8000 derailleur I ordered. It turns out that there are 2 different 11-speed XT shifters, the M8100 and M8130. The M8100 is not a linkglide shifter, the M8130 IS linkglide. So I ended up ordering a new shifter an hour ago. This has now become VERY expensive for me and it's really annoying. Hopefully I can sell my hodgepodge groupset of an 11-speed SLX derailleur, XT Shifter and Deore 5100 Cassette for atleast $100 so I can make back a little of what I'm spending on switching over to Cues.
I'm torn. The only clear advantage so far is for manufacturer - entire system can be built out of common components (same cogs, spacers, shiftier internals).
But now you basically get Acera-tier quality up to Deore all while low end gets more expensive. You still have the mess of multiple derailleur types, cage lengths and levers, the chain and sprockets are thinner than 7-8 with less range. And now you'll have the added mess of HG vs LG, as supposedly it isn't even compatible with 11speed HG while using the same dimensions, pull ratios and chains.
You’re correct but I’m sure in the grand scheme of things / long term it might work out better for them. As for cogs - they are thicker not thiner
@@LoveMTB AFAIK they're only thicker than 10..11spd. Not sure about 9. And besides the base metal thickness they got more meat on tips at the cost of fewer shift gates. Even the thicker HG cogs are fairly short with lots of material removed from their tips for faster shifting.
Maybe thats why they went with 11spd spacing as you dont need such drastic cog mutilations when the cogs are closer.
On the positive note I'm excited about the 46T 9s cassette. Might work well for 1x9 winter beater for simplicity. But i guess you'd still need 10s derailleur with clutch for chain retention. Hopefully with older 10s shifters to enable more than 2 click shifts.
@@LoveMTB you say thicker but you didn't measure it in your last video. The ¹¹/¹² teeth cogs are always thicker
@@janeblogs324 some just don’t believe…🤓they use a thicker cog/ tooth base. They also say taller teeth which I couldn’t tell if true
If they added tension adjuster it's almost 100% road shifters are coming in the future. Next year will be very interesting.

It could work ok, and if you're not happy with the shifting quality you can always go and buy the cues shifter and derailleur to go along with the cassette. If you go for it I would appreciate your feedback!

Mmh Cues has cable pull ratio of 11 speed mtb System with 1.1 .
That means my mullet System of road 9 speed shifter and 11 speed mtb rear derailleur would work
11:25 - the barrel adjuster indeed makes the MTB/gravel/road group compatibility plausible.
I also wonder if 12sp GRX/105/XT shifters/derailleurs are interchangeable too?
They are not different pull ratio

Cues has 1.1 as cable pull ratio what is the ratio of 11 speed mtb. That should be the same for 9-11 speed Cues and for mtb and road. They said on presentation that Cues based on 11speed mtb system and replace the groupset under 105 and under deore in 9-11speed

I just wish they made a 12 speed version of cues but I guess that would limit the cross compatibility of the components especially on 12 speed where the chain is very specific.

This is a different tech altogether. 12s is reserved to racing and they trickle down the tech from XTR to Deore, with Deore just being heavier. This is designed to be a mid-tier product from the getgo so it won't get 12s.
Good video as always, very informative. CUES is just not winning over me. My fleet is full of m5100, and so far, U6000 doesn't makes me want to switch it over. I wonder if you can use a m5100 shifter and pair it with an U6000 derailleur. That said, shift test with an U6000 shifter and pair it with a m5100/6100 derailleur...
It won’t work well, different pull ratio. Cues shifter pull ratio is flat, or 1:1. M5100 uses a more progressive pull ratio at the lever

Not really, sprockets are different on these cassettes.
people dont know what difference a premium shifter makes... when i switched to a premium shifter, i could not believe how fast and smooth the shifting became, compared to my deore shifter i had.
Overall you’re correct however shifters SLX and lower are easier to push/ shift with your thumb and some people like that/ need that
i have both here... the deore m5100 is faster than u6000 11s... deore is more accurate without load on pedal... on load, linkglide seems a little bit faster and silent than hg+
Hello cordially. Should I choose a bike that uses mostly Deore or should I choose a bike that uses the CEUS model? Durability and speed are important to me.
I would look at all the other aspects before the drivetrain - comparable and cheap so no, fit/ suspension/ geometry first then wheels then the Deore/ CUES debate. CUES should last longer BTW

This U6000 derailleur is design to work with a minimum big cog of 48 or 50 but he can also work with the 10 speed 11-45 cassette ?
I'm interested in this cassette but with a derailleur with a smaller cage because i would like to use it on a 26" wheels.

Great videos as usual. Personally, I don't think the non e-bike mtb crowd really need lesser or heavier low-end Shimano shifting components than current, cheap and excellent:
70€ FC-M7100 crank
20€ SL-M6100 12-spd shifter
35€ RD-M6100-SGS 12-spd derailleur
(or even 30€ RD-M5100-SGS that is 12-spd when paired w. SL-M6100 shifter)
20€ CN-M6100 12-spd chain
+ any 12-spd cassett from Shimano / Sram / Sunrace

BTW I wouldn’t use the Shimano chain with anything but the Shimano 12s cassette

CUES is supposed to be more durable and wear longer than previous stuff. This is aimed at both Ebikes and people who don't take care of their stuff. Working in a shop, CUES is going to cost us money as we see a lot of stuff that isn't taken care of lol

cable routing into the new RD-U4000 derailleur is counterintuitive. When looking from behind, it goes from left to right, not right to left!

I hope You review LG components cause I believe that's BS it's not backwards compatible with previous drivetrains. eg SLX M7100 RD IMHO would perfectly work with CUES 11-50 and Cues 11spd shifter. Not sure about their 11 speed shifters though like m8000. I hope You check it someday.
I plan to after we have some mileage on CUES as it is for comparison. And pull ratios are different, 💯

The bent derailleur cage idea is a pain. My deore ones get banged up and are impossible to straighten/ get working again. I wish shimano sold replacement cages instead of having to buy a whole hew one.
You can find parts for more expensive components, assume these are too cheap to bother?

everyone tells how good cues are, but there is not a single video how much this cassette and chain can actually travel in km
EXACTLY the same as an original 8speed shimano. Its a 1.8mm wide cog, the stellar isn't made from unobtainium

At 8:55 You say that all CUES cassettes will work with the same derailleur. This is wrong! There are three different types of the 10 speed derailleur from the U6000 series: RD-U6000, RD-U6020 and RD-U6050 (Di2), and each of them require a specific size of the LG-400 cassette.

I would say built quality is pretty poor, certainly below deore level.
The play in the lower shifter lever and slop in the derailure cage pivot is shocking.
I have u6000 10 speed..
Check out the original 9s shimano saint derailleur, the cage pivots are 35+ mm wide, super stiff and much harder to wear out.
Its a joke that each brand just runs a hardened pin inside aluminium instead of using a replaceable brass/steel bushing. Shimano do a hardened coating on high spec mechs and it doesn't last long
We might see a shift toward gearboxes. Honda`s patent is about to expire, and pinion is ahead of the technology compare to anyone else.
Don’t think it’s going to happen soon and if it does it won’t be widespread. Too expensive for CUES customers…
Absolute dreamer. Pinion gearbox $2k, pinion frame $3k. Availability priceless.

@@janeblogs324 On the efficiency part I think you underestimate the part of the market that either don't care or don't push enough watts to notice. Or, idk where you live, people that commute with it.
It offers a selfcontained, easy to maintain, system that doesn't care about snow, mud, rain or dust and, to have tested it, it delivers in spades.
My next commuter / atb is going to get a belted Pinion.
My next sporty bike is getting a 2x11.

@@tinatpasselepoivre I think you underestimate how much "drag" newer riders can't put up with. It takes 2 years for most to gain the muscles to do 150w ftp. If you are an experienced rider you can cope, but the pinion comment sections from early adopters say they wouldn't buy another. If you ride more than 30km a day that efficiency drop is really noticeable on the tail end of the rides.
I have many 30° roads that I can't even ride up on my most efficient bikes before lactic acid burns my knees, even a tiny drop in efficiency destroys the longevity of the ride. If I try to commute to a trail on maxxis dhf I'm destroyed after 10km vs doing 50km on recons for example
rather than designing stuff for everything from 7-12 speeds, why dont we just move on and realise than anything less than 10 speeds isnt really all that beneficial. just make cassettes and derailleurs for 10 speed and up. then make 3 tiers of shifting performance. deore, xt and xtr... why do they need to make it so complicated? stick budget bikes with bomb proof deore, because we all know these bikes will be neglected anyways. then the mid tier of bikes gets xt a bomb proof but more refined version and finally race bikes get xtr. Shimano, youre welcome!
I'm sure this is based on numbers, Shimano knows exactly how much of that cheap stuff they still sell. Tourney lives even with the introduction of CUES and the absolute cheapest you can get from Shimano
Cues sucks at speed guys.. i have u4000 groupset .. i compare my cues and alivio... heck alivio way faster.. sigh i regret buyin it. I heard cues really good at trailing. Backpacking somthing
It's good at saving your drivetrain, less wear, longer lasting, smoother/ different shifting to smaller gears. Alivio just drops the chain to smaller cog, this one waits for a shift ramp. Different and a you mentioned, slower. Deal breaker?
@@LoveMTB yes it is slower than my othr bike which alivio but the spring on my cues is really great even without clutch systems.. also my cues chain lg500 rusts easily .. it has lube on it.. like by next day everytime i wash my bike ..by the next day it turn brownish color
CUES does not need a special chain, any 11 speed chain should do. And are you just spraying the bike/ chain with water a nd leave it like that? Not ideal regardless of the chain used@@AlmeraOllisor-pg4wr

You almost got to the meat of the compatibility! Shimano and Sram says that their 12s shfiters and derailleurs aren't compatible, but we all know that they work just fine. Now we wanna know if shimano 11s, 12s, as also sram 11s and 12s are cross compatible!

This stuff is already all over aliexpress and the cranksets are cheeeeeap. The shifters and derailleurs are still more expensive than Deore
Deore will eventually go away so we’re stuck w CUES for a while
@@LoveMTB I'm annoyed that they broke compatibility with old kit, but I'm still feeling positive about this change. The fact that Altus, Acera, Alivio, and 3 different speeds of Deore all existed at the same time was getting silly

Can you check if a 9 speed cues shifter is compatible with an m5100/6100 mech and will finally give you a Shimano wide range 1x9?
Looks like this cheap trash is going to be hitting the lower spec bikes. Non compatible with already existing groupsets because they want you to spend more money and upgrade the whole thing and not just a derailleur.
According to Shimano 1 in 5 bikes should be running this in 2024…
