@I Am Me definitely agree with you there. Saw archspire in toronto last year and while its entertaining and flashy to watch him, theres nothing really that amazing about his playing. Just smashes away on all his broken cymbals as fast as he can lol. I prefer hard hitting and thought out writing, think it just comes with the genre for the most part though
I'd recommend doing a video like this, with some material of The Aristocrats. Get It Like That (Live in Tokyo) is a really nice one. Instrumental rock/fusion/prog, with a lot of humour in it.
Baard is a risk taker. I appreciate the hell out of that. And you were dead right about how hard it is to keep that double bass thing going and keeping everything in time. Baard has some other stuff that is more complex and definitely cleaner, but hey - he didn’t have to put the video out there like that and he did. I appreciate what he does with Leprous and also with Rendezvous Point.
Dude, it was driving me NUTS! He's a fantastic drummer, but his bad technique drives me fucking nuts... he only does open, uncontrolled doubles, or kicks his elbow out to try and get a bounce...
@@therealshug If his technique is so bad, then why is he able to play stuff that most of us can't with power, dynamics AND groove? Really cool to see this given that I JUST started listening to Leprous this last week. Really good band, and the Kolstad is definitely the standout so far.
This guy is one of my faves of all time (I'm a bassist). His snare+hihat intonation work are of the chart. Also, the dude toures with Gaahl's Wyrd so he can play plain old black metal speed as well...
Honestly dude, Aric Improta. It’s a long video, but blur lights in the videodrome, is the most incredible percussive display incorporating electronic samples so perfectly. Please dude, react to that incredible piece of music
Dave Weckl is the only percussionist I've seen in concert, around 25 years ago with his band at the Memphis Drum Shop. Transposing the goofy "oh shit" moment on to him gives me lul.
Saw Leprous live a few weeks ago while they were touring with The Ocean. They sound flawless live. Crowd age ranged from 18 to 60 (by my best guess) and there was no crazy mosh pit or anything, just 100ish people rocking out to good music. Kinda feel bad they flew all the way from Norway for such a small crowd. Tickets were only like $20 too. Zero chance they made money. Baard is now bald and dude is only like 1% body fat. I'm not surprised after seeing him live either, dude has got to be one of the busiest drummers I've ever seen. He uses every ounce of his entire kit and is always moving all over the place.
