That's great talk and all, but 60 seconds is a lot when a fire department is delayed.
@@robertlitman2661 no it isn't
@@robertlitman2661 Good thing no fire departments were delayed, then! Only police who were there to arrest students.

"When in doubt, make it up." - Police Everywhere
Yes, and sadly they're allowed to lie like Trump lies without repercussions.
@@ShadowDragon8685That aged like milk.
Lockpicking Lawyer never speaks in absolutes, but when he says, "depends on whether or not they want to keep their bike," that is basically as good as "buy this"
That commissioner wasn't ignorant. We has lying. He lied about those locks because he needed an excuse for abusing protesters. It's about silencing dissent.
The Commissioner's dumbass comment about the bike lock aside, there ARE rioters out there. Let's just be very clear about that. And even "peaceful protesters" have and are holding up major motorways and blocking entrances to buildings just to be as much of a public nuisance as humanly possible.
I have the smaller chain from kryptonite and had to cut off the lock as it was seized. I’m a mechanic and we wanted to see how tough it was.
We used the largest bolt cutters we had and had two guys leaning on one of the handles. Needless to say the blades snapped off before the chain broke.
That’s amazing! Just looking at the chain, I would’ve never suspected it was that strong. thanks for performing this test. Maybe you should tell Kryptonite about it.
"more secure setup on the bike rack"
This probably should be count as a high praise from LPL. I definately want one of those securing my bike. Not many people have a pick that "Bosnian Bill and LPL" made.
They will go steal the bike without that lock, though of course will steal the wheels of yours, along with any parts easy to remove.
and even if they do, maybe they are not good at picking with it (avoids eye contact 🤣)
@@SeanBZA Well I use a U-lock similar to that, to attach the bike frame alongside the back wheel to something stationary and then use that chain with a lttile bit less beefy lock to attach the front wheel to the frame and if possible to the stationary thing. If I feel extra paranoid I have some cables I can use to attach the saddle to the rest. Yeah, they can use a bolt cutter to steal my saddle, if they want to make that much effort for so little reward.
Of course depends on where I'm going. If I go somewhre the bike is pretty much safe and have difficult attachment points, I often use the chain to attach frame and back tire to something sttationary and I have a little folding lock (had to buy it for insurance reasons, because the Kryptonites were too old) that I then use for the front wheel. Can be cut with a bolt cutter, too. But hey, that is my setup for locations I could probably get away with not locking the bike at all.
even with that tool it takes incredible experience, as well as a calm hand and brain which is obviously not always given considering circumstances and person attempting the pick
@@Broggi93 Most bike thieves will not got for picking. Usually they will use a destructive method. I have seen videos, where people tried stealing a bike in broad daylight with a battery powered angle grinder and no one said a thing.
So as you can't rake the lock open, I doubt anyone will try to open the lock non destructive.
The NYPD lying? Who ever would have guessed?
Thats right, students want to use low quality locks so their bikes are stolen.
Just like the food those "agitators" ate would never be eaten by regular students.
At the moment you hear "disc detainer core" you know which tool is coming to the scene.
Anyone else remember when the NYPD leaked an internal document that was basically a DIY guide to 3d printing firearms? NYPD never ceases to amaze.
3D printing firearms is incredibly easy on paper. Anyone who has actually printed a firearm will tell you, they are much more difficult to get right than you would assume.
@@johndeerdrew For sure but it was nice of NYPD to give such a good list of websites that sell parts kits, good printers, good filament and other great beginner resources :)
@@johndeerdrew Printing documents is also incredibly easy on paper.
@@EricDeKirkwood99 it's easier to just buy a gun from a back alley by asking around... "3d printed guns" are nothing to worry about and are pushed by the media to stir up drama.
Probably can't even fire a .22 round out of the best plastic gun without it exploding. (That's the smallest ammo, size of an average pea.)
@@volvo09 You have a lot to research.... LOL!
Other people have pointed out that this lock is sold AT THE UNIVERSITY! That cop is either stupid or a liar. Either way he doesn't belong in that job. Bravo on calling him out!
I don't think he was a liar. Just uneducated and lazy. Some people are too lazy to check things out so they pretend their gut feeling is the truth.
I bet the cops knew they were not unusual for students to have. But lied anyway.
Having worked in a place that used dozens of cut off discs (12" dia and larger) a day, I can say that disc blow-ups are frightening. We left the remnants of a couple of burst discs that ended up stuck in the ceiling as a warning. Diamond impregnated ones are the way to go. LPL knows his stuff.
But grinders have a protection cap for that ?
@@HappyDude1 Is that what those things with the clamps on them are? Straight to the trashcan...
@@HappyDude1Those are far from perfect because you need the open part to work with and you need to see what you're doing. There are plenty of pics online of those fragments embedded in safety glasses.
@@HappyDude1 I should have mentioned that the machines used were fixed installation hand operated saws for cutting off lengths of metal bars up to 2 1/2 inch diameter. There had to be somewhere to get the bars in, which meant there was always an open area for the bits of burst disc to escape. Nevertheless, the people operating the saws were well protected.
@@chrismay2298why would you do that? The grinder still works fine with the guard fitted. Folks that disregard safety in this manner are just fools, some injuries that you can get from such behaviour will change your life for the worse forever.
It came out later that this very model lock is sold in the campus book store so they didn't do much research either.
I was a juror on a kidnapping trial where the detectives that arrived on the scene where the victim was being held basically went "huh, looks like the victim was held here" and did -zero- additional fact finding on the farm he had been locked up at. Even when they're doing their jobs they don't bother to do any research
They are aware, they were just lying. NYPD lies constantly.
I'm betting New York is going to ban the use of bike locks to ensure student safety.
More like for the safety of the police
Okay! As long as they'll then replace any stolen bike.
Sure sounds like it.
I'll raise your bet to include them trying to ban bikes and motorscooters too...
They've already banned guns, this is just the next step
*Well, I trust that Kryptonite will be suing Commissioner Sheppard of the NYPD for associating their brand with professional criminals*
Although to reasonable people, it was a good endorsement for them.
Unfortunately it won't do them any good to sue the professional criminals. The cops, of course.
@@chrismay2298 damned qualified immunity

That police chief needs to learn a very important axiom, "Correlation, doesn't equal causation".
They probably had those chains so they could keep their bikes from being stolen, and just used them and left the bikes at home.
Correlation: The rioters used locks from the school's shop.
@@Aimless6 Oh, that's even funnier.
The police had to PHYSICALLY REMOVE the protective cover off his "example" so it would look more dangerous and possibly illegal.

In blue states, feelings > evidence
Thank you for sharing factual information and not propaganda. Cheers. 👐
That police commissioner comes off as either an idiot or a crooked cop. It doesn't matter what you use to defeat the lock, he's the biggest tool I've ever seen.
This is about as close to a recommendation as LPL gives. Just yesterday I bought my son, a Kryptonite bike lock with a disc detainer core based on my learning from this channel.
good to know that my lawyer has a healthy distrust of police officers
I can confirm as a student, this is the type of lock I carry, and I don't even live in NY
Masterlock has a worthy competitor in the lying department!
You know what's even bad about the commissioner saying that it's not a chain students bring to school? The exact lock he's holding is sold in the school shop (or so I've been told)
The police had to remove the protective layer from the chain to make it look illegal and more frightening.
I dunno why I found it hilarious when LPL said "It depends on whether they want to keep their bike" at the end lol. Love the dry humor.
These locks were sold in the university store as "the bike lock to have"".
Why would anyone expect NYPD Management to get anything right? Especially where theft prevention is concerned.
Damn that's crazy. Every door? I wish there was any reason to ever believe the NYPD though. Then maybe we'd know more.
I saw his interview on MSNBC and I was really hoping the next question would be, "You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, do you?"
The fine Commissar didn’t care about facts, he cared about his message.
NYPD: people don’t bring this to lock up their bike
LPL: shows package with 3 common uses depicted; sitting scooter, motorcycle and… *BIKE*
Meanwhile, police have a pile of Master Lock locks found at every bike rack with chains that are intact and the lock looks like it is brand new.
The best part is that they sell/recommend these locks on the college website.
Wow! "The pick that Bosnian Bill and I made" - makes a welcome appearance. A very useful tool indeed. I got mine from Sparrows.
Firefighter 1: A KRYPTONITE LOCK!?! THIS IS GOING TO TAKE US FOREVER TO CUT THROUGH THIS LOCK!!
Firefighter 2: No. I have waited a long time to use my secret weapon. **unsheathes mysterious device** Behold! The Pick that Bosnian Bill and I made!
In an actual emergency, during that conversation, Firefighter 3 would have pulled out their halligan bar and broken open the door.
Locks only matter if you’re not willing to destroy what they’re attached to. Firefighters work by different rules in actual emergencies.
Honestly, it sounds like the lock might be not be the weakest point in security, which basically means the lock is doing it's job.
More like it IS a weakest point in still very strong system. This thing is one of the best you can put on your bike it seems.
Disc Detainer!!!!...."The pick that Bosnian Bill and I made"...HE SAID IT!!!
When he has to brake out the special tool that nobody has !!! You know it's a good lock
Whenever LPL sais "disc detainer core" my ears are tingling in anticipation for the following sentence.
Professional agitator: someone who works to specifically annoy other people.
Dunno, that sure sounds like most new yorkers to me, especially when the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
Professional agitator: someone who doesn't want crap stolen

there is no job listing as a "professional" agitator. otherwise every single politician would have to register.
A cop lied!? I'm shocked. Shocked!
That officer neither invested in a bike in his life, nor investigated a bike theft. Because who cares like hundreds of them get stolen everyday....
So good to hear Bill get a mention, you two were formidable

I'm also a professional agitator though.

Designed for new york? That tells you everything you need to know.
I’ve heard you referenced on several different CZcams channels lately, always with reverence and respect. So that tells me you are doing things right Sir! Been a fan for a long time. Just started trying to pick recently as I’m in charge of a 150 unit upscale residential complex. Locks used to scare me to get inside of them. Now they are fun and interesting, because you have shown us they aren’t usually something to be afraid of. So thanks Sir!
In Sweden, if you do not use look like this on your bike, your insurance will not cover your bike if stolen.
wow... just wow... maybe it's a conspiracy to discourage anyone from using bike locks that actually work 😂
I hope the police guy saying that doesnt make people start not buying strong locks as to not look like an "agitator".
""He looked suspicious and he had a terrorist style lock with him.""
Or prevents people from biking so they don’t have to worry about being considered criminals for not wanting their bike stolen.
But of course the police would never be anti-bike. It’s not like they’re sponsored by the Ford motor company or anything.
That was much quicker than an Angle Grinder AND much safer all round ;-)
If the NYPD hates it, then I must have it.
Mr. Police Guy: I dunno on your part of the world, but when I was a teenager, in much safer 1980's Spain, the chain _I_ used to hold my bike was... let's say "considerably tougher" than the necklace hanger chain that you claim only radicals would use.
I hope Bosnian Bill is doing well!!
NYPD never lies and never uses excessive force just as much as LPL never successfully picks locks.
I've always heard there's an IQ test for police officers and if you score too well they won't hire you.
I'm not anti-Police, but I think this shows the BIG difference between an Authority Figure, and an Authoritative Figure. LPL isn't in a position to tell people what to do, but he DOES know what he's talking about, whereas the Police officer is talking nonsense.
The same cops that locked a dude up for a crafting hobby…
