  • In this video I'm beginning my build of a DIY electric rope tow for snowboarding, mountainboarding, skiing, sledding, and any other reason someone could want to get pulled up my hill.

    Excited to see how this goes- I was watching sven thorgren go over his whole backyard ropetow setup in detail and have been super curious about making one myself! Awesome to see the process documented!.

    this reminds me of the wake tow for wake boards even though theres is WAY more complicated. love the video chris keep it rocking.

      I think the winches for wake boarding are actually more complicated. They're way more powerful and they have a clutch right? They're cool machines

    Watching your different board builds, I've been thinking about how all the hiking back uphill must put a damper on the downhill fun, so I've been waiting for this project and I'm excited to see how you tackle the challenge. Thanks!

      It should make it a lot easier to practice since I won't be spending as much energy on the hike, I'm excited about it

    This is great, I made a gas ropetow last year with a 15 hp engine and a similar design as you first mentioned using reduction gears. It has been problematic at times. I would like to try this design next.

    this is so sick! If I had this i'd probably be looking for a way to make it remote controlled with a raspberry pi or something. then you could invite people over but also know that they are not messing with the dial.

    Dude! you are my hero! (Okay, 1 of them). I love making stuff out of other stuff. Q: where'd you get your transfer case? BTW: I'm trying to build a "rope tow" that hauls arundo (an invasive species - thing "bamboo") up the side of a hill. My system used a treadmill motor also. The beta test didn't go well, and those present said it was because the motor didn't have the necessary torque. Probably true, but I'm wondering if the power being supplied by a generator (instead of the grid) was also a problem. Thoughts? Anyway, thanks for letting me know where you got your transfer case.

  • @AllSnipe
    @AllSnipe Před 3 lety

    You think this motor is strong/fast enough to use as a wakeboard winch? Like to tow yourself from flat ground up a little kicker to hit a rail with some speed?

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  Před 3 lety

      I don't think so. I don't know much about wakeboarding but the resistance in the water is much, much higher than a snowboard sliding on snow or a mountainboard rolling on dirt. The speed on these things is astronomical, but they're not that strong. Maybe one with a higher horsepower?

    • @KapoSBR
      @KapoSBR Před 3 lety
