Im born and raised in DC. It is important to know that DC has completely changed in the last 20 years. Case and point, the diversity. Remember, DC use to be Chocolate City.
Yea, DC used to be pro and con however PG county is now DC back in the day
I agree. I actually think it's less diverse than when I grew up here in the 90s.
@@wheatbread2002 it definitely is. Itâs more like when my mom and grandmother were kids. Shoot my grandmother was born in 1921 so thatâs saying a lot
Yes. This is the new DC
So it's more diverse now?
From a born and raised native of DC, this list is very accurate.
DC has great food and a huge variety. DC has some of the best Ethiopian food along with Caribbean, Indian and Mediterranean food. Crime has gone up but honestly crime has gotten out of hand everywhere. đ€·đœââïž
Driving in the DMV is SO stressfulđ«
That being said, DMV is a special and unique place to liveđ All pros were on pointđ„Given how crowded it is, itâs definitely NOT an underrated areaâŒïž
D.C stands for don't come....no seriously stop moving here we are full.
đ nah. Bring yall asses down here. We need more options. Diversity makes this area great.
DC is waaaaaay too small for the amount of people trying to slide their way in here.
As a Washingtonian I agree and I miss the old D.C
@@NeeNee25267 DC native here đđŸââïž. I miss âOld DCâ, too; I doesnât feel like home anymore. #3Stars2Bars
And we donât want you here, stay in PA
I moved to DC 17 years ago from Brooklyn still here. I'm in the 14th and U area, This video is accurate, except for the food. There are thousands of restaurants, most of them pretty good,
DC was just ranked #1 for most Michelin Star restaurants in a condensed area anywhere in the country. I agree with you on the food tho!
I've been to several Michelin restaurants IN DC that were underwhelming - based on the food alone. I find the Michelin rating system very classist and overrated. Michelin Star status means nothing to me đ I've eaten at Michelin Star restaurants in the US, Europe and Asia... not mind-blowing.
The food for the most part in DC isnât good. I moved to the area from the south and sometimes I go back just to eat. People in DC donât know what good food is
Native here! I'll never understand bc food leaves much to be desired... Plus, you can pay like how you can pay Yelp for a "boost."
DC is great if you're a boring workaholic.
He's comparing pandemic DC to pre pandemic experiences cross country.
I'm from D.C. and once I got married, I moved to Raleigh for five years and most recently to Detroit (which has a similar vibe to D.C.). My wife thinks people in D.C. have bad attitudes, and I had to tell her that when you're paying $2000 for a one-bedroom apartment, you'd be angry too. And yes, the food in D.C. does suck. But if you're from the area and don't get out often, you don't even notice it until you go somewhere else and think, "Damn, this tastes different, lol."
One thing I will say is that I never knew how spoiled I was being black in D.C. It's nothing to see a black person with a million-dollar home or making $200k. All black folks want to run to ATL, but it's overcrowded down there, and if you don't have a real plan, you will end up broke. D.C. always has jobs. I noticed stuff like this when I was living in Raleigh; I felt like an alien to white folks down there. They had never met a well-off black person and assumed all of us work at Walmart. No, Billy, I can't help you find anything in here, sir. I'm looking for the same stuff you are. I loved being around other successful black folks in D.C., where it's common and you're not like a unicorn.
I'm in Detroit now, and you can tell they have been redoing the city, and gentrification has started. This city is slowly becoming much different than people remember. The same thing happened in D.C. Gentrification does have some pros, but bad traffic, the high cost of living, and too many people moving to your city aren't it. The best way to enjoy living in the nation's capital is to find a remote job where you don't have to commute as much. That's what I do in Detroit now, where the cost of living is much cheaper and, as of now, it isn't overcrowded, LOL.
As a MD native, I've got to push back on the driving comment đ. We all know VA tags are the real hazard.
Yes
đđœ đđœ đđœ
SO why, tell me, that every time I get cut off or someone driving stupid af they're from MD?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Amen.
I have to admit, Iâm a DC/DMV native, 4 generations deep. This list was pretty accurate.
No lies detected. The greenery as your airplaneâs descending - nothing compares.
My first trip to NYC 20 years ago made me appreciate the beauty of the DMV. Not only is there more greenery in the DMV, THERE IS NO STENCH OF URINE AND GARBAGE!
The variety of food slaps in the DMV. Houston, Atl have the exact same types of options. DC foods have everything! You should have chosen better options.
Those places donât have the same things. They have a variety too. They just have specialties that they thrive in, dc doesnât have that. Iâve been eating out for 3.5 years now lol, i donât know how much i gotta eat to get a good grasp.
I donât think itâs bad here, itâs just lacking compared to majority of the major metros. Itâs smaller areas with better food and thatâs strange to me
@@MakingBigMoves what are your top 3 spots? I can give you some good options
@@kevinbishop5722 i canât even tell you honestly, people ask me this and i find everything so mid, that nothing rings when i think of a top spot. Give me some suggestions! If i havenât been, Iâll go for sure
Do you go outside of DC for restaurants as well?
Heâs not wrong about Maryland drivers as a Maryland driver I agree đ
đđ you mightâve been the one who almost hit me on my bike
They got the worse roads in MD too I swear. I live in northern VA but always dread having to drive into MD.
VA has the worst drivers. Proven everyday.
VA drivers are crazy and the highways make no sense, lol
MD drivers are aggressive but VA drivers drive worse. They must still think theyâre in the shitty VA highways. Only highway system that makes less sense was Miamiâs.
Relocated here from Seattle a year and a half ago. I second EVERYTHING you listed.... except the food because I know how to find it. I have a list a restaurants I recommend and not because of vibe as main reason.
Please comment your list of recommended restaurants!
Instagram-able isn't always a bad thing because I find some nice places to go from it.
let me get that list I used to live in seattle too
I from and live in DMV. Youâre absolutely correct about everything. I agree the food could be better.
Come on, bruh, the winters aren't even bad in D.C.

He is just talking
I was visiting dc from atl. That wind chill hit me so bad during the winter that I thought my bubble coat was gonna defend it. I was wrong.

The New York Subway is actually three different systems that were linked together later. That's why its so massive and has different sized trains and tracks. Unlike New York, all DC subway stations have A/C, elevators, and wheelchair accessible fare gates.
Virginia drivers. Not so much Maryland drivers.
When it comes to the food⊠the city does need some more powerhouses BUT if youâre going to the big name new restaurants to find your best bite thatâs where you made your first mistake.
Watching Virginia drivers attempt to parallel park is amusing. I frequently resist the urge to offer to do it my damn selfđ©
LoL. Your right. MD drivers have no chill. But you gotta have some confidence to drive in MD. No one's gonna let you in. You need to take that spot. Get your game up, sir.
I'm from Detroit, I heard they got the prettiest Black Women in D C
Iâve been here almost 10yrs⊠I love it!!
It does grow on you...I think it makes you a more patient person because you deal with ALL sorts of people.
DMV is my home. I'm 50, but finally left the DMV just before I turned 40.
The city is a great mix of entertainment, history and politics.
The food IS mid. There is no distinctive cuisine that defines the area (and no, carry out wings and Mambo sauce isn't enough). That's great for variety, but poor for food that really hits. There are gems to be found, but overall, the food scene mostly trendy.
I was born in DC, but then grew up in NoVA, with extensive family in PG and worked in the city as a Fed contractor for 20+ years.
I finally left the area due to traffic, cost of living, and crime.
I still live close enough to visit from time to time.
Iâm an elder born in DC and thrilled that u relocated. All the best to you.
My god brother, a native, shared this with me. He knows Iâm a proud Washingtonian and he wanted to know my opinion of this video. Now, I did come ready to fight, but I wanted to hear you out. You started off with the Cons and you go into the problems with the food scene here in DC. Well, let me share as of June 2024, DC ranks are really solid. So, I think Rob might want to reconsider this con. However, over all I agree with all other points. He did miss making the point about the level of social services and health care, which are so important to any ranking. It is my view, DC has the best services for its citizens than any other place in the nation. So, other than that, great job, Rob. Also Rob, if you want to hang out and check out some great eats, hit me up. There is a new African restaurant in my neighborhood, Logan Circle, that will blow you away. Ok, stay safe and thanks for the video!!!
Dope video. The edits and the quality of the video production is top tier bro. Easy subscribe
Iâm never leaving â€â€â€
The news said 45% of DC households are on at least 1 form of govât assistance. Taxes are very high in the area. Federal, State/city and county income taxes.
I came to your channel from your initial DMV review and I'm cryingggg at the retraction of the food lmao. when I watched the first one and you said good food I was like đ§ (I'm spoiled when it comes to food since I'm from NYC)
but I've been considering moving to the DMV for some years now and appreciate your content and opinions. some ppl leave a lot to be desired on the topic. you touched base on everything from a real and tangible perspective rather than a bunch of stats that I could have read anywhere. thank you so much

Thank you so much for the support!!! Yeah itâs tough because when i first moved here i was kind of hype about the food, as Iâve traveled more and earned more, Iâve had more flexibility on my taste and Iâm just like, itâs not bad here, but itâs really not a food powerhouse. A lot of options but just ehh. Dc need a specialty thatâs not a condiment đ
The local food scene in DC is not good. Now the upscale restaurants are great. But DC is not a place where you can get great pizza and wings from a local place. It's also not a great place for quality Italian food.
What's sad is that DC is surrounded by great food cities: Baltimore, Philly, NYC, and Boston.
I love living in DC, but I do miss being able to get quality pizza. I didn't know how good I had it in Rochester when it came to great pizza, wings, and Italian food.
Suggest some good food in NY because every time I go Iâm disappointed. Iâm from Texas tho
Great video bro you touched on many important points
Lived here my whole life, your list is spot on! I've been able to find great food, but you really have to dig for it, and it would be something like Yemeni, Afghan, Korean, Peruvian, El Salvadorian, or Jamaican food, not typical American food. Still, this can be a plus in a way, as while I wouldn't say DC has the "best" food culture, but it's definitely up there in food diversity, arguably punching above our weight. In the next few decades, I hope some chef in our area can create some more local food to put our city on the map using this diversity of influences, more so than just mumbo sauce.
I love the level of production on this video. Cheers!
Why thank you a lot!
As an adopted Washingtonian from the Southwest, my daddy moved us there in 1990 to take advantage of what is now the tech boom. But this is when DC was Chocolate City. When there were soul food restaurants on Georgia Ave, festivals celebrating all shades of Black culture in the summer, and U Street still had a faint echoed breath of the Harlem Renaissance that our hearts could still connect to generations later(RIP Twins Jazz đą).
My husband and I were entertaining the idea of moving to South Carolina where my Gullah Geechie family is, but the same uprooting that has left DC culturally crestfallen is the same thing happening in my daddyâs home town, so we moved to a place in VA that is so rural itâll be another 30 years before the cultural extraction (sans Novocain) happens. By then our kids will be good and grown, so we will either be in the islands or somewhere in the motherland.
Iâm glad you said something about the lackluster food scene in DC!
I'm born and raised in Baltimore, practiced in DC before COVID...I miss being able to meet people from all over the world, but I can't ever move back up north. The prices....the cold weather, the entitlement lol idk. I'm in Florida now, I love being able to take a walk whenever I want to, it's cheaper (ish lol)....but the bugs still suck!
Really good, honest, nuanced review
Philly transplant as well. Marylanders cannot drive and the food is lackluster but the diversity and career opportunities are unmatched
Stay out the way and you'll be OK

đđđ I think everybody in DC has a New York shirt đđ
I'ma born and bred Washingtonian from Northeast DC. A lot of what he said I'd agree with. We've seen our city go through massive changes to be as appealing as it is now. However, the appeal was to do just what it's doing and attract all the out of towners here and make it more inconvenient. Gentrification is real and moving us natives away to finesse newcomers here and inflate the price of EVERYTHING because they don't know any better. Everything is business oriented and transactional, and it births the hunger and desperation for financial stability. Which fuels anger, animosity, attitude and aggression. Any of us native Washingtonian will have that edge to us. Any newcomers will develop it. Even in something small. Like what this brother mentioned, in TRAFFIC! The environment creates it. But they wonder why the crime rate here is so high.. It's rough here and everyone's money hungry. It's very political in how things move in all areas and all about "who" you know.. DC will never be the same again, but it's like, "damn, why create something completely different??" So that everyone feels inclusive.. There's a piece of mind to be obtained here and a certain quality of life. You'll just be inconvenienced in the process of obtaining and maintaining it.. real talk!! FYI, It ain't sweet here and our crazy asses love it! đ
Having lived here for over 15 years, and lived in a lot of other places besides, I like DC better than anywhere else.
The climate is mild compared to that of some Western states. Sure, we have hot summers and cold winters, but not as extreme as some other places. And we don't get huge tornadoes. The hurricanes that come up the east coast tend to brush on past, normally bypassing us. We do get an occasional big snowfall, but it rarely stays around for more than a week.
This city has a lot of crime, but it's not in the top ten. Some other cities are significantly worse. You just need to be cautious, keeping your guard up.
One additional point worth mentioning is that the Smithsonian, including the National Gallery of Art and the Zoo, are FREE. Each museum has plenty to see, all for nothing. Not many cities offer that.
Finally, if you like the great outdoors, we have Rock Creek Park. It stretches on for miles and miles. It has all kinds of wildlife--including some species that you wouldn't normally find in any big city.
I am a big fan of DMV winters. Mostly upper 30's/lower 40's. Doesn't get bitter chill too often. I find it more pleasant then the sticky humid summers. And spring and fall rock ..
Iâm from Philly and I found this very helpful!!!
Thank you! If you have any questions, let me know! Iâll throw them in another video!
Omg I never had allergies until I moved here 24 years ago, the only time Iâm not affected is summer. But then I have to contend with the humidity. The restaurant scene use to be so much better, but you can still find good ones. A lot of mom and pop places got priced out with gentrification. Where I live there use to be restaurants, barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, local pharmacy and a local Caribbean supermarket. Theyâre all closed, now itâs all condos, I loved the area, I could walk to everything.
PG here. Very accurate description of the city! I have a feeling more people in the DMV watched your video lol. Hopefully it finds its way outside of us.
Oh my gosh. I live in the DMV and went to Dc just to walk around, and I saw THE BIGGEST RAT I HAVE EVER SEEN, creeping in the bushes. Immediately jumped back đđ
That's just a good luck rat! đ
As a local, this video was on point (except itâs Virginia drivers not MD). If youâre moving here and looking to open a business, VA and DC are more oversaturated than MD. The food scene is good but I know what you mean, certain places are all pretty with no substance but the quiet ones are the real hard hitters
Native Washingtonian. Born and raised here and can't wait to leave. I'm never coming back. The crime is outrageous. The cost of living is atrocious. And Maryland drivers are the worst. They will hit you and keep going. I love our accent, culture, food, music, but I gotta go. Great vid by the way. Don't move here, better yet you can happily take my spot.

Great summary of DC! I lived in DC for 5 years over 15 years ago and I loved it! Even though the DC I lived in didn't have as much gentrification as it does now, it was indeed chocolate city then. But I love hearing about the new DC and I agree with a lot of what you said.
I hate the DMV but I like this video. Good content brođȘđȘ

I've spent the last 12 years in the DMV and moved to DC proper in Dec 2022. And yea....I agree with everything in this video. The food part I was a bit apprehensive on, but a lot of the newer spots are more about vibes than great food....
My first time in DC was in 1984 as a very young Serviceman serving the US Army at the time. I was in the US Army during the President Reagan second term. Washing DC was so much different during that time but started to get bad when Crack came on the scene very hard. It was a good experience for me as young person.

Hey man wondering what you think of Chicago. After living in the DMV for years I moved out to Chicago for the better food, public transportation and lower cost of living. Definitely miss the mountains and proximity to other cities though.
I would move to Chicago if the opportunity presented itself!
Chicago has nothing on the DMV. Chicago has more crime, worse weather, and less diversity than DC. Plus DC has MD and VA right next door so itâs easy to try out new things. I moved to Arizona years ago to try something new and within a year I ran back to DC. There is no place like the DMV!
Do a video on NYC vs DMV! All in this video is deadass true. In NYC, dating is much easier. You can bag a decent women on her way home from work while you drinking a brew with your boy and get play if you come correct. NYCERS are people people! These folks here are not!
As a NYCER, Iâve always complained about the metro. To be honest, itâs not bad but not NYCTA. Cleaner but not as frequent and fluctuating fares was new to me. Toll lanes are another in VA.
Most dudes here are married or divorced and still in contact or living with the ex because they trying to share a house because they afraid to move forward and not backwards. Because the men here can get good jobs and make a decent amount of money they think they can be everybody's man, and you should be ok with it, lol.

DC food, youâre half right. Those places youâve been to absolutely sacrifice the taste for the appearance. To caveat, the GOOD food spots in DC sacrifice appearance for taste.
Everything else mentioned, no lied told. Appreciate the video
Very true. That ran down building with chipped paint will have the best food while the newly renovated building across the street needs every seasoning in your cabinet to make it edible.
The reason I feel like most didn't have any good fun anymore is because back in 2003-present Chocolate City had gone through serious gentrification and it's very cruel to the true Washingtonians âđż they chased away good food. That couldn't handle anything they don't belong there ijs they really messed up my city.đą that's okay it's coming back though.
Very accurate video..
Idc what you say construction is more of a con for me. Simple projects be lasting for years and it makes the traffic worse because everyone (VA/DC drivers) definitely don't care about the safety of others. I call 495 accident highway smh.
This was really good!
I just moved to the Maryland from California for school last year and the weather is so confusing to me. The cost of living is only slightly less then the sf Bay Area and there have been 3 tornado warnings since I have been here wtf?
DC born raised in MD. Everything he said is right EXCEPT MD drivers are not the worst. You have people moving to this areaâŠthen getting a drivers license in MD (much cheaper insurance wise) then they are not familiar with how to navigate..so they are transplant drivers.
Iâll say this about the food scene. There are a lot imposters, posers, instagram focused locales you have to weed through to find truly great cuisine. Thereâs great food but a lot of fools gold.
The food used to be excellent in the DMV, but since COVID itâs hard to find good food so I stopped going to restaurants. I am still hard on the seafood restaurants in Maryland. I think itâs less experienced cooks and more trendsetterâs restaurants thatâs missing the pride of cooking. I also think people should visit the lower-end restaurants, because the foods are always on point without the significant price tags.
Pretty accurate
I actually think the D.C food scene is growing. But the D.C food scene, if you're trying to spend lots of money in the center of the DMV then go ahead but in the surrounding area it's lacking in the food scene. (especially mexican from what i've seen)
CLEAN ASS EDITING YESSIR
Cicadas were really bad in Southeast Georgia where I live this Spring
Driving in Boston scared the daylights out me, including my home state of MICHIGAN. But, I concur with you that Maryland drivers are terrible!!!!! Not sure I agree with some of your other points, I.e. food, but the driving goodness YESSS!!!
How is the mental health field in DC?
Racial stratification is a problem too.
Dc metro being superb is hilarious
The US has hundreds of cities and only
Like 5 have reputable subway systems, dc is ranked #2. So when you compare it to the US, i guess you have to say superb right? Now when you leave the US, then nah. Itâs ass.
