What a treat! As part of the Martin series I was lucky enough to get to play some very cool guitars. I started out with the Signature series Jorma Kaukonen "M" size guitar with the enlarged sound hole. An awesome, big sound performers' guitar. This Tasty Riffs video also features two BareFoot MusicNews Exclusives. As far as we know, Dan Grigor was the only player at NAMM 2010 to play the museum piece double-neck and the hundred and ten thousand dollar D-100.
We had a great day with Martin seeing their entire line and talking with Chris and Jorma Kaukonen but the highlight of the day was playing these guitars.
How cool is that?
For those curious about the songs
Hiya Collin, There are 3 songs here, all mine.
The first one is Enjoy and you can find a full version here
• Grigor Reviews the Bed... .
The second one on the double-neck is Altitoodles full version here
• Altitoodles - 12 strin... .
The last one on the D-100 is a previously unreleased song of mine called "My Heart Out."
I sorta forgot about that song. I'll have to record it, It sure is a fun song to play.
Thanks for listening!
i used to have one of those but i smashed it at the end of a show...

ver2oso 1.1.8million now!! Yay🤓🎸🎶🎵
Balls of steel! This is such a cool video!
Keep rocking!
I took a look at your other videos Dan- definitely worth a look and listen. Keep it goin'.
I got one of these for my kid to learn on. He lost interest after a few months so I now use it as a canoe paddle.
lol! kids, what can ya do? shrug
ver2oso idk hit em? *shrugs* idk im not a parent. my life philosophy is.. kids can teach themselves to grow up. yup.. *sighs* really takes the stress off too.
Martin: We've made a guitar worth 100k. Who can we get to play it?
Dan: I can play 12 bar blues over and over?...
Martin: You'll do!
...wtf
Well it’s been 4 years, and we’re all still waiting for your super talent to become famous........😂😂😂😂
this was so beautiful thank you so much for sharing this with the world
I enjoyed watching, thanks for showing us such beautiful guitars!
That is just THE COOLEST FUCKING ACOUSTIC GUITAR EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!
rite?!
You guys are seriously missing the point on the price of this guitar. It isn't that expensive just for the materials and craftsmanship. It is a collectors item to commemorate a special event for Martin or... did you not listen to what he says in the video... lol
Still a waste of money
agreed
the inlay must have taken so many man hours, to say it's not worth 110,000 dollars means that you cannot compare the man hours it takes to build a 300,000 dollar house and then come home to a 50,000 dollar house and still have time to do what you love for an hour or two...
Yeah so make it $ 20 000 . 00 That is why the world is such a shithole because the rich play around with money like its a toy while 10000s are starving or in need of help
Well i've made this argument before on youtube only to be attacked by all the assholes who wouldn't spend an extra dime to save anyone..
Great stuff man, glad I found you. Peace!
Cool! Thanks for this post.
A 110,000 guitar through youtube sounds about the same as my 800 dollar guitar...
My $100 6 string designed in Chiang Mai made in China sounds better!
its the dumbledore of the guitar world
Ultra-mega cool. Thanks for your post.
You play with a lot of soul. What a treat for you and us! Thanks

Why make an instrument if it's just going to be thrown into a museum. Guitars aren't furniture.. Play them
Very valid point. Also most museums don't have enough money to preserve such pieces (a near vacuum or special gas mixture tank would be ideal) instead they slowly rot in a glas shelf. Also too bad that synthesizers rarely get the right to name their sound patches after the instruments (brands) they are recorded off, that would actually be sweet if you could pay a few bucks and get a version of the sounds this guitar produces recorded in surround SUPERnatural from Roland to play on your regular high end $ 800 midi guitar (hooked to a 1,5k synth-rack and 2k speakers)
Dan Grigor, a 12-string virtuoso, has been playing guitar for more than 50 years. This season of his life has brought a new twist to his music. Tapping out melodies on the fret board with the right hand while chording with the left is a popular electric guitar technique. When taken to the acoustic 12-string, it requires an additional level of skill and talent, but as the finger ballet unfolds, it brings about a delightfully visual listening experience. Refreshingly smart poetry accompanies the music and touches places in our hearts, our minds and our middles. Known for his wordplay and lyrical vocabulary, Grigor creates songs that say with few words the things we all feel. If you get a chance to see a live show, do it. The funny and incredibly talented Grigor entertains us by being himself. You feel as if you’ve made a new friend, or found an old one.
thanks for posting that, sweet guitar
Gandolf he really knows how to play guitar. 😄
+rickmangler
I'm sorry I'm not sure what that means?
+rickmangler
S.D.K.
+Back to the Basics 101 he's a real guitar wizard alright..
Gandolf?
Gandalf nah, more like Saruman.
“Evidently we look so much alike that your desire to make an incurable dent in my hat must be excused.”
In my opinion, there is not a guitar made worth that much money.
I couldn't agree more. It's ridiculous.
it should have a super awesome sound for that price, this one sounds everage
right
at least not that much of MY money!
Same with wine, overrrated art or anything else.So snob that it's getting silly! Hi from France :)
WOW absolutely beautiful!!!!!! truly, instruments of beauty! you're lucky to beable to play those gorgeous guitars brother :D
You had me at enlarged sound hole, rawrrr :)
Is it made of wood from another planet?
Yes
Obviously
it's made from boobs
*****
Boobs are quite cheap material bro, this is definetily wood from other galaxy,or planet Nibiru perhaps.
*****
You will get the chance eventually. If not play with your own in meantime. :)
Why the heck not ! :D This is a good video, and entertaining as hell
thanks Santeri you made my day. It still blows my mind lol seriously thank you.
ver2oso They are all wanting to see the Martin. Do you think the Unabomber "living in the mountains hasn't bathed or shaved in 2 years" look is cool?
EJonline609 you're an idiot, thanks for stopping by.
ver2oso You're Welcome. And thank you for taking it well. No serious offense intended. Best wishes to you, sir.
thank you. It really was a special treat.
Thanks Linc, it was such a treat just to get to play them. Stay Tuned!
I did not know that wizards could also play guitar.

$100,000 guitar recorded with a $20 cell phone
man it was so loud in there that might have been better, I so wish I had a quiet room, there just wasn't one there. I put my ear against it. Wow. Stunning tone. just stunning!
amazing guitars and some great playing.
I love your handle Epiphoniac! That was such a fun day. Meeting Jorma and playing all the guitars. I will never forget that day. I'm so glad I got to share it with you. Our adventure aint over yet my friend, soon we'll be doing it at Knuckleheads! We'll have to have Jorma over for a jam!
Wow... Gandalf really let himself go...
It is like Bilbo said:
“I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-preserved indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread. That can't be right. I need a change, or something.”
great playing ad tone of the guitar but i dont hear the 110k tone
yamaha organ
.
yamaha organ .
If the player was a real player and not a seller
ver2oso, thank you for posting this. Those guitars are ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE!!! Man if only there was a nice QUIET room to play in, then we could hear all the little nuances of the instruments, I'm sure you would have LOVED THAT! Anyways thanks again......a fellow guitar player and guitar LOVER. 🎸♡
Thanks man! I really wanted nothing more. They were so fine. A Martin is a Martin and these were top of the line! Top Of The Line. Such a treat.
cool video, loved the double guitar
That D-100 will sound even better once it gets a few beer spilled on it down the legion hall and gets passed around at the jam: "Jeez Ed take that damn belt buckle off! here..give me that stupid thing..BONG!..oh for the love a..be careful....goddamit!"
+Scott Matheson that's what it needs, a ding or too! lol
ver2oso
;)
Made me BURST out laughing.
Thank you sir.
Play a little "Stairway" then smash that m'fr against a wall.......mahahahahahah
haahaa! rock and roll ya puke! \m/\m/
wait...NO STAIRWAY!! LOL
Awesome, Darren Dzousa you should like this Martin.
A guitar for collectors. I guess it's nice that it gives work to some of the artisans doing inlay work, etc, but past the limits of good taste.
A guitar that is NOT FOR SALE is NOT a $110,000 guitar. unless it was JUST BOUGHT for that amount. If I buy a car for $5,000,000.. it doesn't mean that the car is worth $5,000,000... it Means I have way too much money and am an idiot. I dont care how rare or old it is, NO guitar is worth that amount !!!
Actually, the double-neck was not for sale. It is now in a museum. The D-100 with the inlay is the expensive one and they made 50 of them for sale.
funny sounds like a 400 dollar guitar
taylors are better...
Taylors are better than what?
then any guitar brand.
I really love lakewood for the european spruce
Man..you have a lot of courage playing those, let alone holding them haha I don't think I could do that - That second one is like..a house. Insane! Thanks for sharing!
it was a little scary but I just had to do it! lol
Dan
Nice to be back in touch my friend and always a pleasure to hear you at you craft...
Let's both stay in touch... Live large
Be well
Angelo
Not to take away from the beautiful designs or showmanship of the guitar/guitarist, but something this special should have a better quality recording and presentation....in my opinion. This was a bit lackluster for such a grand exposition.
oh how I wish I had an empty quiet room to play it. They just didn't have a spot.
Folks it was at a FRICKING TRADE SHOW!!!!!! I am happy to both see and hear this work of art under any conditions.....
A player always a player.........in concert......or @ the toilet
nothing makes a guitar $110k...........
you're right and wrong
Not true... If there are stradivarius violins that cost millions of dollars I'm sure there are guitars for over 100k... Like Mary Ford's 61 gibson sg it got sold for 110k not that long ago...
+Austin Lingle so you're paying for a signature?
No lol... Mary Ford was married to les paul the guy who innovated the les paul guitar... That's what it costed for her personal guitar... I'm just pointing out that there are guitars out there that cost a hell of a lot more then you thought...
+Austin Lingle I know that there are instruments that cost well over $100,000. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and in that time I've seen instruments like Jerry Garcia's guitar I think sold for over 600,000 I know they can get into the millions but I just don't understand why. after a certain point the build quality can only be so good, is it really worth that much
I literally got chills when the D-100 was shown. That is some tight workmanship.
rite!? I had chills all day that day. Such a treat. Thanks for listening.
Absolutely.
I recently bought an old Vintage Radio at the bootfair for £3 which had clearly been rescued from a skip. I converted it into a guitar amp which now sounds absolutely gorgeous. I made a youtube vid with it called " Ekco Night Raga" and posted it on my facebook page. A friend of mine who's a radio head was most upset that I'd done that to a radio. The actual radio bit didn't work anyway !
Now it has a new life and it's much used and loved :0)
NO fucking guitar is worth 110,000 bucks no mater WHO's dirty fingers picked the strings or WHO made it. BULLSHIT. But the playing it made it SOUND like a million bucks.
Apparently people actually bought them. One was sold on Reverb.com for 91k according to their website. Unbelievable. No wonder why our world is going down the drain....
Rite?! There were only 50 made. I bet they all sold and several have resold... at a loss? who knows...
I'm guessing +moreanimalsipits is trying to be special by hating on a video about an extremely rare and special guitar, like "who would've bought this overpriced piece of crap", and not actually recognizing the guitar's value. One thing's missing though, and that's "I got my guitar in Walmart for 30 bucks and sounds much better than this shit"
Or who knows, I may have just been looking for an excuse to get triggered.
+Martin Kulič You are right there. Trained musicians are unable to determine the difference in specialty woods or even violins - according to 2 studies I have read. Now I do own a Martin, the all solid wood mahogany - but I bought it new for 700. I think the gain you after 2 or now 2 thousand is almost zero.
Paying for a $110,000 guitar is excessive commercialism at it's finest, there is absolutely no way any guitar is worth $110,000. It's only worth that much because the people wanting to sell it say so.
There is no way the sound difference between a $2,000 and an $110,000 guitar is worth $108,000 - that's a completely ridiculous notion.
Jimi Hendrix used strat is over a million dollars.
I was there. After he finished playing, he said he had to hurry back and finish building his ark.
+zackvanhalen lol the 2 guitar players were a nightmare! Can you imagine that trip!?
amazing !
Sweet but I'll take my 500 dollar mij dove copy, 4500 dollar truck and 95,000 dollar house thank you very much
rite?! they made 50 how many were purchased to hang on the wall? It played sooo nice too. I wish you could really hear it.
ver2oso
I bet it really thumps and sings pretty, sounded amazing through cheap laptop speakers : )
SnakeRiverFishing
It was just so loud in there. I put my ear against it and played something pretty and deep. It was just stunning. What a sound and you could feel its voice in your chest.
ver2oso
I love guitars : )
SnakeRiverFishing
and everything about them brother!
110.000$, yea right. . . . .
thanks for stoppin' by
Thanks DGW thanks for listening... More to come!
A guitar only worth this much if it induces orgasm, vomit, and bloodspurt from the eyes when its tones hit the eardrums. Otherwise it's just a piece of over appreciated wood and a few metal pieces.
it's a martin. it's a martin that 's covered in pearl inlay. what do you expect? guitars are fucking expensive, especially the good ones. that's martin.
does the pearl make it sound better. no. its a piece of overpriced wood
If it were a one of a kind owned by Hendrix or Elvis then I can understand the value behind it. The kind of guitar that sits in a museum or in a vault somewhere. I bet there's a regular bicycle out there with 100k price tag, boasting how it was made from jet airplane parts and junks. Oh well...buy it and smash it, because it's worth it.
From the response this received. most of you are off your rocker. Look at the art and think of the history of Martin guitar. Hendrix or even Elvis aren't the best guitarist in the world.
I couldn't disagree more.
no thanks i'll keep the 100 grand
The people who would spend the 100k on this are the same people who wouldn't hesitate to drop even more money on other collector items. This isn't "I want a guitar to jam on, let's see what's out there" -- the most likely scenario is this will go behind glass in a climate controlled room and bring profit one day when it changes hands.
That last song rocks! Please record it!
Very nice treat. I have to wonder why the show does not provide seperate , quiet room for the aqustic instruments.
$110,000 for what is essentially bits of wood and metal? Someone's having a laugh!
"Artistry" is a thing. Overly simplistic deconstruction is silly. A Porsche 918 Spyder is just bits of metal and polymers. $110,000 cash is just bits of fibers, ink, and plastic, too.
+elixiriszog but that's a vehicle with literally thousands of precision moving parts....this is a guitar.
+Cyrus Garner Exactly.
a bugatti veyron $1.5 million and a Toyota Corolla is around $17,000 with literally thousands of precision moving parts. so what is wrong with the Toyota Corolla? What makes the Bugatti veyron more expensive than the Toyota corolla?
That's the thing, it is the perceived value based on the serial number and the appointments and materials and craftsmanship and reputation of the company and of course the name.
Never knew Rasputin could play the guitar
haha! me either
Lol! He's done learned G and C and he's a working on D.
just love the m (0000) size martins, and jorma's sounds beautiful even in this setting with all the background noise. i have an m38 that's comfortable to play and has a bright clear sound with an even frequency response. . .makes it a good choice to take to a multi-acoustic guitar jam session, as it won't contribute to the low end din the way a jumbo or a dreadnought will
me too! thanks for listening!
Could of had a better guitarist play to really show what it can do. The guy is a little sloppy.
If that guitar is not for sale then it's not even worth $10.00. No matter how magnificent it is.
But it is for sale, the other guitar in this video isn't for sale
Only the double-neck is not for sale. It's in a museum now with a long gray beard hair in it.
That's kind of dumb.
:-)
hey if they made it and hung it in their own museum they could say it's worth a zillion bucks... Not sure they would sell many of those. the point is the serial number. If you actually listen to the video you'll find out that they made two of the double-necks. Showpieces to show what the custom shop can really do. If you held this and were having them make you a custom guitar this would be impressive. You would be convinced they could do it down to the most intricate details. It is the D-100 the third guitar in the video that is worth $110,000 the double-neck is not for sale. It's in a museum now... with a long gray beard hair in it.
Such beauty in sight and sound.
And to think I struggle with playing 1 neck
It's those lovely old speakers that sound so nice.
I've just done a little 1960's "Bush" radio and when I opened up the back, to my surprise it has a Celestion speaker in it, sounds wonderful and overdrives beautifully !
Rasputin needs to take some lessons.
LMAO!!!
Me too !@@58landman
that guitar was designed for the 4 armed hindu god, no mere mortal can play it
Us foolish mortals.
I hadn't touched a double-neck in years. It was a little intimidating while trying not to scratch it!
I'm a little jealous! Top work fella :)
Wooow! Oh my God! I would be too scared to play these beauties! You're a man, keep up the good job! :)
Better be made from the cross Jesus died on.
that dubble neck sounds like shit!
Expensive goodlooking and only good on the wall
+Gibson Rose live it was amazing!
Just amazing! Lovely guitars and very nice tune guitars.
You handled that roll with class. Good for you!
its funny cos they all sound the same
Obviously you don't play guitar hahaha
obviously that was just a condescending silly butthurt rose tinted glasses comment because ive been playing about 6 years x
+Cammy You're missing the point. have you not view the video? or listen to what the guy have to say? its all for collector purposes.
sounds like me , crap.
......... I've tried many Martin guitars in show rooms and I am never impressed with them. I love the way they look and I'm sure there are some great ones out there but I have yet to find them. My favorite sounding steel string acoustic guitar so far was a Samick. My Takemine is my favorite nylon string guitar..
it really was an astoundingly well made and great sounding thing. Almost alive... if you know what I mean.
The care with which these particular guitars were made was a special thing. It was such a milestone for the company and everyone who loves Martins. You can kinda hear it in his voice when he describes it.
No guitar on the planet is worth 110,000 dollars. Simply just a huge waste of money
+kevin S maybe not off the rack, but with a pedigree different story.
+terry alot I am constantly amazed by what people will pay for stuff!
Well, perhaps one that was played by a famous person. I can see that. But just because it's the one millionth instrument made by a particular maker without any famous person ever having owned it or played a historical concert with it or recorded a historical album with it or done something out of the ordinary with it is just presumptuous on the part of the manufacturer. Guitars like that I can command much higher prices. Usually museums or very wealthy collectors are the ones that buy them. For example, Maybelle Carter's guitar or that belonging to Segovia or Jimi Hendrix.
+philomelodia you know what it is? more dollars than sense.
+ver2oso two possibilities: either that really was as hilarious as I thought it was. Or, I have had too much beer. Possibly both. :)
Total BS, Never was-never will be, Who cares.Think I can find better use with a 110,000.00, Not impressed by hippie with a acoustic
i remember playing this guitar at namm years ago! surprised nobody yelled at me
iknowrite?! Apparently the year I was there I was the only one who asked to play it. Awfully nice guitar even with your eyes closed.
excellent brother, hope you have played some nice ones since.
Dude should probably learn to play. Just saying.
He would but he's too old. Rasputin's been out of the biz for a while.
гитара урод
You got that right! As for the pick, I do use a bit of first finger curl. My first finger bends at the tip just a little, and a right angle at the middle. The thumb is parallel with the back of the first. Making the OK sign with the pick perpendicular to the strings. The key to me is relaxing your pinky and other fingers. Making a fist tenses muscles you really need to have loose. Relax the other fingers and stroke like shaking off a ring.
Nice to meet you Dad Thanks for listening Stay Tuned
I was Dans cameraman that day. We saw and did so much crazy stuff that day, I didn't even give much thought to Dan playing the most expensive guitar in a building filled with THOUSANDS of guitars. Dan was handed the guitar because he had just smoked the strings off a Martin moments before, barefoot, in the middle of Martin's camp. I asked him off camera what he was going to play, and he just shrugged and said "I don't know, something silly I guess. It is about the guitar, not me". That's Dan.
sorry but while a martin fan you proved the most beautiful guitars sound like trash in a yt video, would of been better to mic or plug it in
I so wish we would have had a quiet room. They sounded as good as you imagine they would.
ver2oso but in the end they all sounded the same, ehhh
on video they sure did. kinda like all the others. I put my ear against that d-100 one of the most tonefull guitars I ever heard. Rich and deep and vibrant, you could feel it in your chest. Wish I coulda shared that on YT.
ver2oso
me too, ist already hard enough to tell how great these guitars sound because its tricky to capture the real tone with mics then look at the mics on cameras people use for youtube, and after compressing the videos, not to forget i am using built in speakers on a computer,
i do have a studio with dynaudio bm6as but the sound of this video is horrible
Fat Lip The real problem there is how loud that place is. 250,000 people and every possible musical instrument you can think of. There isn't a quiet place to take it and if there was I'm not sure they would have let me take it there. Still, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity I had to try something! The artistry was worth the video, the sound, well, you'll have to trust me, oh and Martin and Co. they make a pretty good guitar on a regular day. These were kinda special.
you are never too old for rock
\m/
Thanks Chris! “I am nothing, yes; I am air and darkness, a word, a promise. I watch in the crystal and I wait in the hollow hills. But out there in the light I have a young king and a bright sword to do my work for me, and build what will stand when my name is only a word for forgotten songs and outworn wisdom, and when your name, Morgause, is only a hissing in the dark.”
― Mary Stewart, The Hollow Hills
Stay Tuned!
sweet guitar!!
Oh how I miss NAMM. Too cool!
Thanks Rob! how you been?! good to see you!
Amazing!!!!!
what a treat!
Wow, absolutely amazing! I'm so jealous man! haha. Good for you though :)
Gandalf my friend, that was splendid!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can tell how old you are by which wizard you think I look like! lol thanks man.
Thanks Ruby, I appreciate it. Stay Tuned!
why would 27 people thumb it up?
wicked cool guitar
