    When I lived in Parramatta many years ago, there were plans galore about starting up a ferry service. I'm glad it finally came to something. Great video.

    For me personally, this is the most interesting video so far. During my very brief stay in Sydney, I did catch ferries to Taronga Zoo and to Manley. Never occurred to go up river and there looks to be loads to explore inland there!

    The Government House in the park was not a 'country retreat'. It was the original Government House in early colonial days. The seat of government was later moved down to near the Sydney CBD as it grew in importance. Parramatta was originally seen as the centre, with Sydney as the port. It had suitable fields for growing crops (one of the bridges shown is James Ruse Drive, commemorating a convict who first successfully grew wheat in the colony). It's also the head of navigation, so approachable by boat from the East, and having fresh water just to the West. Sydney sprawls so far to the west that Parramatta is now very close to the centre of the metropolitan area.

    Harbour starts where the Lane Cove river and Parramatta river meet, near Cockatoo Island,
    No crocodiles, the Drop Bears have killed them off.

    Good to see you 'Down Under' mate on one of Sydney's rare overcast days. Shane Gould and Dawn Frazer (both still around) were icons of Australian swimming. I spent all my school years and Adult Education in Parramatta, good to see the Woolpack , where I've had the odd schooner (large glass of draught beer), is still there . Parramatta means " Where the eels lie" in the local aboriginal language .Hope the sun appears so you can truly appreciate the sparkling harbour.

    It's "city cenTRE, nor center" and the date format is not Month /day (as per your comments early on) ..... it's day/month ..... e.g. 13 March.

    Why is it called Circular Quay? It doesn't seem to be circular

    • @tacitdionysus3220
      @tacitdionysus3220 Před 4 lety +1

      While it is now 'squared off', in sailing days it was originally semi-circular in shape. The "Semi-Circular Quay" was used to describe it. It got shortened to Circular Quay and the name stuck. It's not totally irrelevant as the rail line serving it is on the 'City Circle'. Trains from some suburban lines go into the City Circle (five mostly underground stations in the city centre) from Central and circle back through Central in both directions to form services on a complementary set of lines. (e.g. T2 services become T8 services, and vice versa, as they go through it)
