  • I travel to the RANS factory in Hays Kansas to get a jump start on my homebuilt bushplane project. The S-21 Outbound is an incredibly versatile choice for my mission--hauling a bunch of stuff into the backcountry, fast. As a career fighter pilot/stick monkey, I have no build or maintenance experience, so learn and laugh along with me (or at me) while I build this kitplane. Thanks so much to the master builder Eddie Gil for his kind, expert instruction during this workshop (and in the future). It was also a pleasure getting to know my fellow builders, Rich, Randy (not that Randy), Rose, and Les. Future episodes probably won't be this long.

    Just found this series. I’ll be following closely. I do want to say that as a recently retired US Navy maintainer it’s a real joy watching a pilot struggle with day 1 air framing. 😅

    I watch a fair amount of CZcams, back country flying as I'm learning to fly in a Piper Pacer, fighter jet content, especially F-15s as I just submitted my application for the UPT board with the Redhawks, I live in Oregon too... How did I not find this channel sooner!? Keep up the good work and I'm excited to see this channel grow. 👍

    I 100% endorse the use of an iPad or similar to zoom in on the parts manual diagram. That makes things much easier and less prone to error. I use my iPad often in the shop.

    Awesome job! I can't wait to do the Rudder Workshop in September and meet the Clan! Thank you so much for the video and can't wait to see more on your S-21 build. I haven't ordered my kit yet but hope to in the near future. Definitely ready for a Demo Ride in the S-21! I haven't met Randy or Michele in person, but they seem to be truly great people who are 100% committed to making sure their customers are well taken care of!

    Hey Steve, at the risk of sounding like a bit of a "Fan Boy" WOW! thank you so much for going to the trouble of recording and posting Rans S21 intro build work shop, I have been watching your posts with great interest and completely relate to your decision on choosing the S21, If I had any reservations? (not that I did) am now completely confident the Outbound is the plane to build (for me) Rans appear to be right up there with the best, Eddie, Shelly & Randy what great support to give you piece of mind knowing you can call & not feel like you wasting their time. My partner wants to travel the US more, coming from Australia, I'm thinking yep she can travel and leave me in Hays Kansas to "play" with aluminium!
    I'll be watching your build with the upmost interest.
    Cheers Glenn - Down Under.

      Glenn I went with my wife to Hays back in 2018 to fly the S-21..the RANS family there are fantastic. They made us feel included and really looked after us. Michele is fantastic to deal with as well. e hope to go back there but I dont think we will get there until 2022 by the look of it as you know

    Any idea on what the current wait time is on a newly placed order? I always imagined myself building a RV9 or another Vans. Even ordered all the tools and practice kits to get started. CZcams sure is making me consider a bush plane kit. I still want a metal wing, so that narrows it down quite a bit. Beautiful looking aircraft! Subbed and look forward to your progress.

    • @CLEAREDDIRECT
      @CLEAREDDIRECT  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Jacob! I hear ya. I think Vans would be wise to join the high-wing club. Anyway, hard to guess. I’d guess 11 months. RANS is ramping, plus suppliers should be catching up in a post-COVID world (hope I didn’t just jinx it). The bad news for you is the RANS demand is way up, so you might want to pull the trigger. If you change your mind, I bet you could figure a way to get the deposit back. But let’s face it, the Outbound is a winner!

    WTH - I ordered my kit on March 19th and i am told late April or early May. Gentleman on video ordered his around same time, sounds like later than me, and he is receiving his in less than twelve months? My wait is looking like 14 months.

    If I was buying a digital protractor/level these days I'd take it right out of the packaging to a place that does tool calibration services. The quality of all brands of tools has gone so downhill it's not even funny.

    • @CLEAREDDIRECT
      @CLEAREDDIRECT  Před 3 lety +1

      Really?! Well the good news is it doesn’t need to be calibrated since we don’t necessarily care about 0.00° level. We care that if one side is +0.5, the other side needs to be +0.5. That’s my understanding anyway fwiw.
