I dont think its a forgotten feed? It's not a scale-able food source on larrger scale farm. However for a small scale farm like a homestead, it is a perfect fit. I've been researching online on what kind of trees I can use as food soirce for pigs and chickens. So many options.
I think it's been forgotten in the sense that tree hay can actually be stored and used for winter feed. I see very few people do this because people just don't know it's an option, and there is very little information available on how to do it properly so it involves a lot of work to trial-and-error.
